My son is disabled and has from time to time stomach damage flare up caused by voltorol while waiting for a fusion operation, the voltorol gave him an ulcer that flares up.
He got ensure from the GP but can only get a few from the chemist without a script and they are very expensive, i was thinking on fortifying slimfast shakes as they are a complete low calorie meal with carnation tinned cream or evaporated milk, are there any health workers who could say if this would work ? Does anyone have any ideas on it ?
Many Thanks
cassie.

Cassiex26, you can purchase Ensure from the grocery store if you can afford it. Get some from the grocery store to see what flavor your son likes. Then get some whey protein powder and add a tablespoon or two to the Ensure in the blender with a couple of ice cubes blend and you will have a great shake.
If your son can tolerate ice cream or frozen yougurt put that in the blender instead of ice cubes it makes it creamy. You can purchase Ensure by the case cheaper at Sam's or Costco. I did this for my husband who was dying of cancer. This gave him great energy and was a "complete" meal. He would eat this when nothing else tasted good. If Whey Protein powder is not tolerated by your son there are other types pf protein powders at the Vitamin stores they will be able to help you. Good luck. |
