Two adults hospitalized in Greece with flu-like symptoms

Athens, 12:14

Two adults have been hospitalized in northern Greece after coming into contact with dead poultry and developing flu-like symptoms, Greek media reported.

A 78-year-old woman, who came into contact with a dead chicken, was placed under quarantine in Edessa's hospital. A 65-year-old farmer had reportedly buried a dead chicken with bare hands. He was admitted to a hospital in Seres.

Local media say they are in stable condition pending the results of blood sample tests.

Athens' Radio Alpha said late Tuesday that a 75-year-old woman was placed under quarantine in a hospital in Nikea, Attica, with suspected bird flu.

Last week, the deadly strain of bird flu virus was found in three wild swans, while tests are now being conducted on a wild goose from the Aegean island of Skyros.
