So we are in the middle of an ice storm. It started icing about noon today, so for about 6 hours now. It's giving me flashbacks to a few years ago when we had an ice storm and lost electricity for 8 days, lol. So far we still have electricity.

I remember you posting about the last one. Fingers crossed this isn't as bad and you get through it with the minimum of inconvenience. And the lights stay on...

Yeah, I remember those when I lived in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma....no fun at all!

Pretty to look at from a warm living room picture window, that's about it.

Be safe, keep your emergency gear in your car ready for use.  If you are ever in a below-freezing state, keep a few candles in the glove box, as a single candle flame will keep the interior warm enough for survival without the need to run the engine.

Be safe, everyone.

CRS, I'm in SW Oklahoma, so yes you know exactly what I'm talking about. People have been posting on Facebook that they are losing electricity. I can hear tree limbs falling outside, but it's too dark to see anything. So far we still have our electricity.

batten down the hatches Penham !
stay safe

you may want to bump the purchase of a generator to the top of your Prep Needs List !

ice storms around here are rare
but when they happen
the power is usually out for at least  2-3 days
longer if you live further outside of town

How's it going Penham?  I remember the last time, praying it's nothing like that.  On the bright side you can break out the frito chili pies again.  Wasn't that you?

Let us know as soon as your lights are back on, Penham.  My fingers get cramp if they are crossed too long.

Penham, you and your fellow Oklahomans are in my thoughts & prayers.  That part of the state gets nailed as I recall.

Too close to Texas, probably!

This is what she is facing right now, pretty ugly weather....

Ok, we are back. 10 hours without power. It wasn't horrible. The house chilled down to about 52 degrees. I have a gas/ventless wall heater in the bathroom which I turned on. I cleaned for the first 3 hours and was comfortable. My college aged daughter had eaten an MRE for lunch, but then wanted to go out to eat later on and since the roads were clear we did. We killed a few hours at a restaurant and wandering around a store. We headed to the next largest town, Lawton, 25 miles south and they had no ice at all. We got home and it was cold and dark everywhere, kind of eerie. A lot of trucks working to get things fixed, so I knew it wouldn't be long.

The roads are fine, I was out of town for the day and started receiving text messages from one of my daughters (lives 5 blocks from me) that the fire department was at their house. Ice was melting off the power lines caused it to break and fall into their trash and it caught on fire. So they once again had no electricity, until they got a new line ran. This all happened this morning but I didn't get the messages until 3:00pm because the phones are not working correctly. She could not even make a 911 call, she had to go outside and find a signal of some kind to make an emergency call.
