From Anthony C. Sutton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antony_C._Sutton:

In 1973, Sutton published a popularized, condensed version of the sections of the forthcoming third volume relevant to military technology called National Suicide: Military Aid to the Soviet Union after which he was forced out of the Hoover Institution.[1] His conclusion from his research on the issue was that the conflicts of the Cold War were "not fought to restrain communism", since the United States, through financing the Soviet Union "directly or indirectly armed both sides in at least Korea and Vietnam"; rather, these wars were organised in order "to generate multibillion-dollar armaments contracts".[2] The update to this text, The Best Enemy Money Can Buy, looked at the role of military technology transfers up to the 1980s. Appendix B of that text contained the text of his 1972 testimony before Subcommittee VII of the Platform Committee of the Republican Party where he summarized the essential aspects of his overall research:

In a few words: there is no such thing as Soviet technology. Almost all — perhaps 90-95 percent — came directly or indirectly from the United States and its allies. In effect the United States and the NATO countries have built the Soviet Union. Its industrial and its military capabilities. This massive construction job has taken 50 years. Since the Revolution in 1917. It has been carried out through trade and the sale of plants, equipment and technical assistance.[3]

Divide and rule isan old strategy used from the Greeks, Romans, colonial times, cold war and even now still effective. War is a big investment with the promise of big profit.

Oil, gas, military equipment, communications needs financing. IS is being beaten in Syria and Iraq but now is showing up in Libya, Afghanistan, Ukraine. In other forms (boko haram etc) also in oil countries like Nigeria and Indonesia.

IS is not (yet) selling shares on Wallstreet but the money for IS has to come from a rich elite.

The Yemen-war is fought-at least by part-with private armies. Blackwater https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academi was active in  Iraq. King Salman of Saudi Arabia claims the nuclear warheads as his own private property (since his country under international treaty should not have such weapons). The IS war, the war from the Kiev-corrupt regime in Ukraine, proberbly should be seen as wars by private armies. (Blackwater USA was formed in 1997, by Al Clark[12] and Erik Prince in North Carolina, to provide training support to military and law enforcement organizations. In explaining Blackwater's purpose, Prince stated: "We are trying to do for the national security apparatus what FedEx did for the Postal Service".[13] After working with SEAL and SWAT teams, Blackwater USA received its first government contract after the bombing of the USS Cole off of the coast of Yemen in October 2000. After winning the bid on the contract, Jamie Smith ran the program at Blackwater that trained over 100,000 sailors.[14]  -  In 2009, Prince announced that he would relinquish involvement in the company's day-to-day business in December, along with some of his ownership rights. He also said he considered becoming a teacher.[48] In late 2010, Prince moved to Abu Dhabi, where he subsequently started another security services company, Reflex Responses.[49])

That brings us back a few hundred years; the 30-year war https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty_Years%27_War like most wars before 1800 war "private army" wars with mercenaries that could switch side during a battle only fighting for money.

If "we" as ordinary citizens do not want everlasting wars on drugs, terror etc. more openness is needed about the flow of money worldwide. It is unacceptable that IS can use global communications networks to order the killing of innocents.

If oil-companies want states or private firms to start wars for cheap oil and gas they are doing something very wrong. When shareholders in those companies (or in banks, weaponsindustry that make profit out of war) want to become president, or other public positions they can not keep private and public matters apart.

T o get more close to this Avian Flu Forum; if pharma-giants spent more on marketing their products, can buy "tests" for products that do not work than they spent on research there is something very wrong.

Greed is the new pandemic, an old pandemic but finding new ways.
