It is not all bad. Cement absorbs CO2 whilst it is setting/curing and so partly mitigates its own polution. It is still a positive sum of CO2, as not all the gas is re-absorbed and huge heating (using fossil fuels) is needed for its manafacture, it is just not quite as large as some would have us belive.
There is a better alternative too: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2008/dec/31/cement-carbon-emissions. Amid the doom and gloom there are a few rays of hope. |
