CRS,DrPH, you are correct. "Bomb cyclones" are getting very strong-I should rename this item; "Can extreme weather destroy the US" or something like that.

Of course other parts of the globe do get more extreme weather as well-some area's can deal with it much less than the US. (Bangla Desh is one of those countries-a major storm could flood most of that country). 

The US (citizens) can prepare for some extreme weather. Water (almost always-extreme winds could cause otherwise) goes to the lowest point so in case of flooding you better have some low grounds that can deal with large amounts of water. When you build more reservoirs you might be able to deal with dry periods as well. 
When politics fail companies, citizens, can do a lot.
