Despite a lot of effort by the press to suggest otherwise, there still appears to be no clear evidence of any plot or help from Isis in the killing of 49 people in an Orlando, Florida, gay club.

This is an email from the FBI I received about this situation: Most of you have already viewed the FBI's press conference by the ASAC in Orlando. If you have not, then here is the latest from us:
The FBI is taking the lead in this investigation, and we are working closely, hand in hand with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to determine how and why this horrific act happened. · We’re gathering a lot of information. We want to share as much as we can. Here is what we know right now: o The individual believed to be responsible for the terror attack at the Orlando club Pulse early Sunday morning has been identified as Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, age 29, an American citizen born in New York. He died in an exchange of gunfire with police officers. o The FBI first became aware of Mateen in 2013 when he made inflammatory comments to co-workers alleging possible terrorist ties. o The FBI thoroughly investigated the matter, including interviews of witnesses, physical surveillance, and records checks. In the course of the investigation, Mateen was interviewed twice. Ultimately, we were unable to verify the substance of his comments, and the investigation was closed. o In 2014, Mateen again came to the attention of the FBI, because of possible ties to Moner Abu Salha, an American suicide bomber. The FBI conducted an investigation including an interview with Mateen. We determined the contact was minimal and did not constitute a substantive relationship or a threat at that time. o It has been reported the Mateen made a call to 911 this morning in which he stated his allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State. We are looking into any and all connections, both domestic and international. We wanted to provide this information to you. We will continue to be in contact with our Counterterrorism Division and provide additional information when it is released. |

"The FBI is taking the lead in this investigation"
well there's your problem right there isn't it interesting how many of these guys have been "on the FBI's radar" and yet these terrorist attacks continue virtually all of these terrorists have been monitored by "the authorities " both in this country and others and yet these attacks continue why would anyone have ANY confidence in the FBI or other agencies ???????? |

Believe me, you are not alone!! I was pissed at how badly the FBI blew it with 9/11, and they show that they can keep fumbling the ball in the end zone. I like many of the folks I know in the Bureau, but they have a culture that is pretty hamstrung with politics.

Politics are messing up the "gun control" debate too.
The Democrats want to remove the guns and the Republicans to keep them (as a general guide for the non US citizen). But both approaches carry their own problems. Whereas "no guns" would have prevented the last two shootings, a greater number of "concealed carry" licences would have given the revelers a better chance to stop this last nutter. If you take away the chances to hold a gun legally, then only the criminals will carry guns - and that is not pretty! But, by what twisted system was a potential nutcase/terrorist allowed one??? Rather than campaign for less guns, why not campaign for both a signature from two doctors believing the applicant sane, a clearance from the law enforcement officers/national security service, an insistance on a secure storage area and a nationwide database of ownership? That way you can keep your guns but will do it far more safely.
