The Number One mistake relating to prepping is....spending too much time talking about it!
Everyone who has any interest in the subject should do all of these steps before logging on again (and by the way, I practice what i preach): Plan for a Pandemic

The missing page of Top 9 mistakes:
1. Following the wrong advice: Many new survivalists become fixated upon the advice given by others..... In order to be self-reliant you need to learn to think for yourself. 2. Not eating what they store: ..... You need to learn how to prepare and use these foods now, so they become a familiar staple. 3. Relying only on their food storage: .....don’t overlook the possibility of needing to replenish your supplies, and obtaining the skills and resources needed to do that. 4. Not storing enough salt: ... 5. Building an arsenal: .... but I know food and water are more important to my survival. Sure; we need weapons to protect what we’ve put away, just don’t neglect the other stuff. 6. Relying on bugging out: ... In most cases you’re better off staying where you are. Having a bug out bag is a good idea, just don’t make bugging out your only plan or first priority. 7. To much stuff not enough skill: Many new survivalists believe they can be saved through buying. .... 8. Storing only one type of food: .... 9. Not taking care of pet needs: Many new
survivalists fail to consider the needs of their pets.... What was the biggest mistake you made when you were a newb? http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/top-9-mistakes-prepping-newbs/ |

Biggest mistake for me was insisting to friends and relatives that life as we knew it would soon be over. Now no one wants to hear anything anymore bc no one likes being scared to death. I did not have the faith then, that I have now. Now I trust that whatever happens is for a reason whether I understand that or not, I know that God has my best interest at heart no matter what happens, even dying is not scary anymore. I have adapted the attitude and need to work on it daily that all is well with my soul,no matter what.
I think we are to try to save ourselves bc life is a prescious gift that is why we dont go play in traffic or do any other host of crazy things that could hurt us, but ultimately we do what we can and then let go and Let God.

Very well put Debbie! I appreciated your post. My biggest mistake is wanting to be a more serious prepper than I am, and not doing anything about it. Sitting and dreaming of learning long term storage & planting/gardening long term. No I take that back... my biggest mistake is not solving long term water needs. Someone, can't remember who... might be Melody has a gutter system to store rain water.

Kenanfut, that is a funny story. Nothing is more warped then a psychiatrist; therapist etc processing and evaluating another individual; when the so called doctor is (under the influence) of intellectual mind control.

In my early years I had a school friend visit whilst I was cleaning kitchen cupboards, my kitchen table was stacked with groceries, her eyes were every where and couldn't believe how much food there was, I had several empty cardboard containers too hand and started packing them all the time complaining how my nephew had volunteered me to pack for him and 10 friends who was going on a camping holiday,
We have new house rules, My daughter[ who is disabled] is not allowed to open the door when I am cleaning, and we never talk about what foods we have in the cupboard,

Ro2935,
It must be terrifying to be so poor. You have so very little, and fear that other poor people in the neighborhood might come in, to take the small amount of food starage you have, right from your cupboards. Plus you have a disabled child. This is a very sad and scarry world isn't it? I think you need a big hug.

just another reason why you need to get prepared and stay that way US Propane Shortage Leads To Desperate Actions http://beforeitsnews.com/survival/2014/02/us-propane-shortage-leads-to-desperate-actions-2508890.html "In Amberg, Wisconsin, 58-year-old Sue Arganek kept her thermostat at 50 degrees Fahrenheit to conserve propane, but she finally ran out – and there is no re-supply coming. and this is in America not some third world country as soon as the system is stressed it starts to breakdown doesn't it ??? and let me repeat that line "everyone is panicking" |

About a year ago, I had friends in the UK who are into camping that were telling me that they were completely unable to find propane. Made me realize it's prudent to stock up on it, because so much of my prepping equipment runs on propane. Not all - I don't see the sense in having everything reliant on one power source - but I have stoves and lighting that would be useless without it.

My tips would be:
stock up on stuff NEVER let people see your stores dont let tons of people round when your in a survival situation just close friends and family develop a community of like minded trusted people to prep and help each other just dont rely on the kindness of others and not prep for yourself too stock up on pet supplys make sure you have enoughh medical supplys use your common sence You dont really need my telling you all of this and i cant off of the top of my head think of any more but The biggest thing i can think of is not letting anyone see your stores wich is a big mistake ive seen and heard soo many people do. x :) |
