Now might be a good time to stock up on pet food. I have noticed that in the past couple of months the price of my bag of 25 lb dog food that I buy every week has gone up over $2.00 a bag. My 18lb. bag of cat food has also risen by $1.25. I guess with the price of grain rising, we will see a price hike in pet foods also.

But there will be a lag, as agricultural cycles have a 12-month rhythm and are subject to a wide variety of variables (weather, federal import and export policies, the creation of new ethanol-conversion programs) beyond price-per-barrel oil prices. After 20 years of tame food inflation, prices for staples like bread, milk, eggs and flour have surged at double-digit rates over the last year, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
