It's a thought among some of us here that early intervention of antibiotics can beat the secondary bacterial pneumonia infection from the MERS virus. Most viruses leave the body on their own, and one can usually ride out a virus, but the bacterial pneumonia, especially with MERS, is extremely severe and lethal.
Jacksdad suggested a z-pack (antibiotic), or Zithromax, which I completely agree with for pneumonia.

I see that you mention keeping a supply of antibiotics. I have a couple of questions on this. I am assuming you would be getting these from internet sites (my doc at least won't just give me antibiotics just because I ask for them). How do you find a site that is selling legitimate antiobiotics that aren't thrown together in a third world country? I work in the pharmaceutical industry, so I know there is junk out there on the internet that should not be taken by anyone - human, animal, etc. I'm just curious where to get them and how you know they were manufactured legitimately. I have always wanted to keep some for emergencies, but have always balked at the thought of getting them over the internet....Thanks!

If you can't "convince" your doctor to prescribe antibiotics, one possible source is pet stores. Believe it or not, fish antibiotics are the same as human meds - made in the same production plants, but packaged and priced accordingly. You'll sometimes see them called fish mox, fish cillin, fish cipro, etc. Online sites (veterinary and prepper) sell them too, often without prescriptions, but as you pointed out it's often a crap shoot as to what you're getting. There is a thread about fish meds - if I can find it, I'll post a link.
One more thing - if you have some in the medicine cabinet that have expired, don't toss them yet. They last a lot longer than the expiration date might suggest. Even tetracycline is stable - you hear a lot about it becoming toxic, but that stems from a supposed poisoning incident many years ago that prompted a reformulation that doesn't break down into dangerous compounds. It's safe now.

You can extend the life of antibiotics further by refridgerating them. Not freezing, that can crack some chemical bonds, but nice and cold, just above freezing is best.
