I can't defend your inability to spell the name of my country America correctly - like several terrorists who used to threaten it - and have no respect for some of my brothers and sisters in arms who have died to protect our freedom.

I see it as an effort to divide and destroy the unity of my country in a time when we need to remain together to fight enemies outside and within it.  These kind of statements are supported by domestic terrorists who kill the innocent, deny them free speech and want to establish Anarchy in America.

I may not agree with you but I will die fighting for the right for you to say it. Do you really appreciate that? People continue to do that every day here - or perhaps you really don't understand the United States and why we are united.

I didn't vote for Trump. I am not a Republican and he is not "my man".  No, I do not understand your reference to Amurkan. Please define it and tell me why you spell it that way.

I don't need to defend Trump and you cannot defend the mainstream media's boldface lies.

So far he has done a lot positive things, most of which have been completely ignored. There is less illegal immigration, the stocks are up, the GDP is up, Congress must address the immigration problem, they are trying to lower taxes, tackle the budget, and  give our businesses a fighting chance against the world.

In Puerto Rico they are doing an amazing job or their would be hundreds of thousands more people dead. All mainstream can do is whine about one tweet versus all of the ones praising leaders in Puerto Rico.

He managed to push money through for the the hurricane in Texas, now working on Florida, and also Puerto Rico. They tried to repeal and replace Obamacare which is a disaster and failed.

These objective facts versus the CNN Fantasyland.  The couldn't even publish the truth about Las Vegas.

You are a Trump Hater. You wear the hat, you walk the walk, you talk the talk. There are an army of Anarchists who want America to fall that stand behind you.

I am simply a data miner trying to pull together facts to base my conclusions on.

It is unlikely you will ever stop. No matter what Trump does to help our country, even protect us from a nuclear strike from North Korea as our Commander in Chief - the ranting, whining, and misinformation will not stop.

It's okay. When I am wrong, I will say I'm wrong. So far- what I have posted above is accurate.

MED
your the biggest water carrier for Trump since Sean Hannity

I'll start praising Trump WHEN he stops lying and actually does something positive

and please quit saying stupid stuff like just because someone doesnt like Trump
they are anarchists ???  and want America to fail ???

two thirds of voters don't like Trump
a little factoid you seem to constantly ignore

and you continue to give Trump credit for things which are clearly residual effects of the Obama administration
do I really need to list them ???

and for crying out loud
"No, I do not understand your reference to Amurkan. Please define it and tell me why you spell it that way."
this has already been explained to you at least once before
I'm not going to go back over the a,b,c's again

and just how has Trump's handling of North Korea been any different than that of Clinton.Bush or Obama?
sure the talk is tougher
but thats all

NK CONTINUES to test long range missiles FACT
they CONTINUE to test nuclear devices  FACT
and all Trump has to say is "all options are on the table"LOL  FACT

and please
this statement is so factually inaccurate I won't even address it
"In Puerto Rico they are doing an amazing job or their would be hundreds of thousands more people dead. All mainstream can do is whine about one tweet versus all of the ones praising leaders in Puerto Rico."

but at any rate Trump will give the Puerto Ricans that GOLF TROPHY today
I'm sure that will make everything all better LOL
if that is YOUR idea of effective leadership
then you have indeed set the bar LOWLOL

I have to protest against this statement, Med: " No matter what Trump does to help our country, even protect us from a nuclear strike from North Korea as our Commander in Chief - the ranting, whining, and misinformation will not stop."

You yourself have posted much about your fears of approaching nuclear war.  I can only assume you disbelieve your own words.

Personally I think that Trump is making things worse.  His only idea of diplomacy is to shout:  "Oi, Rocket Man, my missiles are bigger than yours!"  Many of his security forces have expressed similar opinions to mine.  That is no way to speak to a dictator with nukes!

There is an old saying:  "What do you call a gorilla with a gun?"  to which the reply is:  "Sir!"

Trump is correct in much of what he says about the insane North-Korean-space-cockroach, but you can't say that out loud!  This is not a pi$$ing contest!  It is a profoundly delicate diplomatic nightmare.  Trump's schoolboy-in-the-playground tactics could get EVERYONE killed.

Again your comment was:  "He managed to push money through for the the hurricane in Texas, now working on Florida, and also Puerto Rico"

It is true that a small amount of aid has been sent to Puerto Rico, A VERY SMALL AMOUNT, TO DEAL WITH A DISASTER OF MASSIVE PROPORTIONS.  The amount of aid amounts to little more than an insult.  Don't you read, watch or listen to  any real news?

Finally:  "I don't need to defend Trump and you cannot defend the mainstream media's boldface lies"  No you don't, that is correct.

However you chose to, for no logical reason I can fathom, if as you say you did not vote for him. 'And you use the most scurrilous, inaccurate, partisan, frequently made up, lies and damn lies to do so (no statistics though to complete the cliche) gleaned from sources with known Right wing and Far-right sites.  Yet you accuse the mainstream media of lying.  Just because Trump uses the words "fake news" does not make it true.  I do not include Fox news in that list of horrors,  They are clearly right-wing and occasionally extremely so, but, being mainstream, they suffer oversight and so like their opposite number, CNN, cannot get away with lying outright.

Everyone has a tendency to read only those articles which back up their own already-formed opinions,  Some would never watch CNN, some would never watch Fox.  I admit to preferring CNN.  But, I watch Fox, as they help give a more balanced view.  Unless you do the same and override your distaste with anything remotely left-of-centre you cannot develop a viewpoint based on the facts, anymore than I could if I did not view the publications of the other side.  Allow that bias to build and you will gravitate closer and closer to a fascist viewpoint, just as, if I gave my tastes free reign I would end up a communist.  Both extremes are insane, stupid and morally repugnant.

I have said it before but I do not think you were listening.  If you only look at one side, you only see one side.  You may not like the alternate view, but to view only its opposite renders you unenlightened and makes you appear stupid, racist and deluded.  I am pretty sure you are none of those, so please try removing the blinkers, they only suit horses, and skittish ones at that.

comment: I am afraid of a global thermonuclear war (War Games) but we also have a bully in the playground who needs to be punched in the nose. For 25 years no one has punched him and negotiating is a waste. Trump is likely the only president in the last 25 years who will order a strike and that may be all that stops him i.e. Kim Jong-Un.

Personally I think that Trump is making things worse.  His only idea of diplomacy is to shout:  "Oi, Rocket Man, my missiles are bigger than yours!"  Many of his security forces have expressed similar opinions to mine.  That is no way to speak to a dictator with nukes!

There is an old saying:  "What do you call a gorilla with a gun?"  to which the reply is:  "Sir!"

comment: Trump is very good at the art of getting things hammered out and that includes bluffing and constant changing of strategy to fit the situation. We have two gorillas actually - both with their bones in the air waving them and grunting. One has to use the bone and end it or this will go on until millions are dead in a strike to New York or cities on the West Coast.

Trump is correct in much of what he says about the insane North-Korean-space-cockroach, but you can't say that out loud!  This is not a pi$$ing contest!  It is a profoundly delicate diplomatic nightmare.  Trump's schoolboy-in-the-playground tactics could get EVERYONE killed.

comment: We've run out of alternatives. The only possible one is for China to take Kim Jong-Un down versus a military strike. Negotiation is a waste of time.

Don't you read, watch or listen to  any real news?

comment: I don't have limitless time to read the news, so I do read maybe for a few hours a day and take it from there. I do know that with accumulating disasters we do have to set priorities. We cannot send as much relief to Puerto Rico as to Texas or Florida.

Finally:  "I don't need to defend Trump and you cannot defend the mainstream media's boldface lies"  No you don't, that is correct.

However you chose to, for no logical reason I can fathom, if as you say you did not vote for him. comment: I was at Berkeley in the 60s and among the protestors. All my cousins except one are Social Justice Warriors and I have heard this drivel for the last 30 years. I am Christian, was raised in a church which included almost 50% black people and studied to be a minister from an amazing man name Jessie Walton - a black minister. I served in the military and worked beside and with and had many friends of all colors as well as after the service. I currently have many such friends, including the homeless people who I lived with and struggled with as some died.

I currently am the head of Homeless United http://homelessunited.net and trying to do the Give Me Shelter Concert. Check it out on Facebook.

I am not a racist.

It appears to me the recent slaughter of 59 country western fans in Las Vegas was instigated by Antifa. President (I am so tired of the media calling him Mr. Trump) Trump delivered a heartfelt and truly well done expression of caring for the victims of the massacre. There was nothing the media could find to fault him with so they barely published it.

The Far Left has now started calling everyone a Nazi and a Racist without any discrimination. It is a mindless ignorant ploy to stir up a revolution in the U.S. (Antifa November 5, 2017) and will fail.

I am not going to spend 3 more years chanting "Not our president" or back Hillary who tries - despite lack of effort to put her in jail for willful crimes endangering the national security of our country.

I will continue to acknowledge - despite volumes of false news - the good Trump is doing and will continue to do for America.

I didn't like the whiners in the comedy show and I don't like them in politics. They never have a single solution. All they do is complain.

now I'm confused
Trump said one thing while campaigning
and now his hand picked budget guy is saying another ???

Trump Budget Director: “We Need to Have New Deficits”

https://www.redstate.com/patterico/2017/10/03/trump-budget-director-need-new-deficits/

Our national debt recently hit $20 trillion. Of course the Trump administration doesn’t care about that. Remember, Trump hilariously promised a pack of gullible rubes that he would eliminate the debt (not the deficit, but the debt!!) without touching entitlements — which is laughably impossible. Now his budget director is praising deficits as necessary for economic growth.

I am a minister of my faith, my husband is a vet.  Don't try Trump's pi$$ing contest Tactics on me.  I have taken homeless people home and housed them myself, repeatedly - charged no rent, fed them for nothing and given them the space to get their act together long enough to get a foothold in life.  All who have left are now housed and able to feed themselves.

If you have had so many black friends, why do you automatically quote the far-right drivel that accuses them of everything from racist attacks against white people, to insulting the country when they protest injustice perpetrated in its name?  Did you read Satori's post "Have you no decency?"  Did you realize that the original author was an astronaut a proud patriotic American one?  I believe you when you say you are not a racist.  But many of your posts are racially insensitive and some come over as outright racist.  i don't think you mean to give that impression, but that is what comes across.  "This is becoming an exercise in connect the dots. Country Western - the South - Antifa - ISIS - was this a racially motivated crime against White People?" for instance.

Trump's speech was beautiful, apt apposite and warm.  It solves nothing, but I was impressed by it

Yes KJU is a playground bully. 'And Trump does have a history of deals which work.  But KJU is not a businessman, he is a dictator.  He does not rely on business law to police his deals, he relies on China, who have said they will not let America make the first strike without retaliation.  Trump is brilliant at tactics which are inappropriate in this situation and does not seem able to adapt.  The more Trump bluffs and blusters the faster KJU builds up his arsenal and Trump can't start things off on a war footing without bringing China in.  So, all this bravado does is speed up KJU's arsenal building.  STUPID AND DANGEROUS!

China are not going to sort NK out. Period!  Saying it needs to happen will not change that, no matter how many times you say it.  There are other options, but very delicate ones,  Trump's attitude may close those diplomatic doors forever.

Trump has achieved a few minor successes, granted.  However he is failing miserably in all the major ones.  He started his term with ALL THREE HOUSES holding a Republican majority.  Had the majority of Republicans agreed with him on anything, his bills would have sailed through.  The fact that they have not suggests that the politically savvy think him either stupid, uninformed or deluded (or all three).  This is also illustrated/confirmed by the rash of resignations and sackings in the White house and Trump's war with the media.  His trumpets seem to love him, as do a few hard-line far-right groups and individuals, the rest either see him as a manipulative bully, an orange buffoon or their biggest mistake yet.

I appreciate that the political posts have been a point of contention for many, but the mods can no more take this down than the pro-Trump ones. I hate to sound like I'm passing the buck, but that's Albert's call simply because he pays the rent and makes the rules here. After it was recently raised as an issue, there was a consensus about creating a political section. But as I mentioned at the time, they will still appear in the latest posts. It doesn't necessarily fix anything.

I appreciate all of the fine folks on AFT.  We have much in common, and like all families, we can agree to disagree.

Trump doesn't impress me one bit, primarily because of his sleazy attempts to cozy up to Russia during the election.   All of that will eventually bring him, and his family, down eventually.

Medclinician, I appreciate your sensibilities and dedication what we are trying to do here.  I won't trash Trump anymore, he does a pretty good job of doing that by himself.   We are Americans (and Brits and Scots and Aussies and Kiwis etc.) and hang together.

Be safe, everyone!

Schwartz continues, “When Donald Trump looks out into the world, what he sees is a reflection of himself, and that self he sees is a black hole that is leaking and it’s leaking self-esteem at a very rapid rate. He needs to keep filling it up. The ability to see other people is almost nonexistent.”

White House: Senate should stop taking vacations

https://www.yahoo.com/news/white-house-senate-stop-taking-vacations-194413224.html

wow

just listen to the words of PAID PROFESSIONAL LIAR Sarah Huckabee Sanders

“He’s calling on Congress to get their job done. They’re on another vacation right now,” Trump’s press secretary, Sarah Sanders, told reporters at her daily briefing. “I think that we would all be a lot better off if the Senate would stop taking vacations and start staying here until we get actually get some real things accomplished. The president’s here and committed to working with them to do that.”

The Senate is out of session this week. But Trump is no slouch in the vacation department: A Washington Post analysis in August found that he has taken https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2017/08/03/by-end-of-august-trump-will-have-spent-three-times-as-many-days-at-leisure-as-obama/?utm_term=.d6b6e3310f88" rel="nofollow -  roughly triple the amount of the leisure time Barack Obama had taken by the same point in his presidency.

I couldn't have said it better

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/10/10/1705955/-MAGGOT" rel="nofollow - MAGGOT

It was English philosopher John Locke who inspired Thomas Jefferson’s use of the words “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” in the Declaration of Independence.

The most coveted aspects of liberty entail not only freedom of thought, but also the right to give public expression to thoughts. There is likewise a freedom of behaviorhowever bizarre or antithetical to public normsand a right to associate with others of the same ideation. These freedoms are codified in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

These so-called “unalienable rights”  have allowed America to flourish, but they have also come at a very high cost. Without interference from government, citizens can be racist, misogynist, communist, or neo-fascist, and are allowed to admire and support hate-mongers, so long as they do not advocate violent overthrow of the government. They can even join subversive associations or white supremacist hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan.  Thus is exposed the decidedly evil and decaying underbelly of a free society, and now, it can be stated that no leader in the history of the United States has gorged more on the rotted flesh of democracy than Donald Trump. Look to the source of the stench emanating from the Beltway these days, and you will find a maggot thriving in its life-sustaining cycle.

Unless you have been living under a rock, it is obvious that any person who has been requested  to work in the Trump administration must first deliver a boot-licking pledge of loyalty…not to country, as the oath of office requires,  but to Donald Trump. Trump was never a politician of any stripe. He was, and is, simply a grifter and carnival barker who migrated from reality television into the political arena.  While Trump claims to be a member of the Republican Party, most of his political donations were made to democrats.

It was genetic code and environmental experience that gifted Trump with his impoverished persona, and an ever-present psychotic impulse which drives his bizarre and unpredictable behavior. Trump’s racist lineage is legendary.

Trump’s father, Fred Trump, who died in 1999, was arrested at a KKK rally in New York City in 1927.  Donald Trump proved that he inherited his father’s racist tendencies when he publicly prosecuted a group which would come to be known as the “Central Park Five.”

They were five young black and Hispanic men ranging in age from fifteen to eighteen years old who were arrested and convicted in the 1989 beating and rape of a 28-year-old jogger in New York City’s Central Park. Trump took out full-page ads in four New York newspapers demanding the death penalty for the convicted offenders. In 2002, a new investigation revealed beyond all reasonable doubt that serial rapist Matias Reyes alone had committed the crime.  All five of the convicted offenders were exonerated and freed after serving between six and thirteen years in prison. The city of New York paid the wrongly convicted five a total of 40 million dollars. Out of racially motivated hatred, Trump refused to apologize for the ads, or to even admit that the teenagers had been wrongfully convicted. Instead, he doubled down, and continued to press the “alternate fact” that the five were guilty, and should have been executed.

During the presidential election campaign, Trump touted himself as a successful businessman.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Trump is a failed real estate investor who used a variation of the Ponzi scheme to cover his failures; he simply borrowed more money to cover his massive losses and bankruptcies, and when U.S. bankers denied him credit as a toxic risk, he went overseas to foreign money managers. Obviously, some of those bankers were connected to individuals who demand quid-pro-quo as a condition for releasing funds.

The infamous and well-traveled Access Hollywood tape exposed Trump as a misogynist and predator.  On the tape, Trump indicated that he might start kissing a woman he was about to meet during filming, and then said:

“I don’t even wait.  And when you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything…grab them by the pussy.”

Following release of the Access Hollywood tape, the https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/10/10/1705955/https;/www.nytimes.com/Donald%20Trumps%20Long%20Record%20of%20Degrading%20Women" rel="nofollow - New York Times on October 16, 2016 published an article detailing how Trump had degraded and marginalized women over a period of four decades.

Trump is a con man without a conscience. His so-called “institution of higher learning,” Trump University, was brought to court on two class action lawsuits originating in California, and was sued by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman for fraud, and running a “phony university.” In November 2016, Trump settled the cases for 25 million dollars, with an additional one million dollars in penalties to the state of New York for violating state education laws.  Quoting Eric Schneiderman:  “Today’s $25 million settlement agreement is a stunning reversal by Donald Trump and a major victory for the over 6000 victims of his fraudulent university.”

In August 2017, white supremacists held a torch-lit rally in Charlottesville, Virginia to protest the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue. Inspired by white nationalist Richard Spencer, the rally touched off 24 hours of racial hatred, violent clashes, and ultimately, the death of a counter-protester.  Donald Trump drew praise from hate-mongers when he referred to the “blood and soil” chanters as “fine people.” However, he incurred the wrath of decent people everywhere.

In late September, Trump used a campaign rally in Huntsville, Alabama to attack NFL players and Arizona Senator John McCain. Ostensibly, Trump was there to urge support for Republican senate candidate Luther Strange, but a typical Trump sideshow emerged.

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick began protesting over the shooting of unarmed blacks by police about a year ago by kneeling during the national anthem. Kaepernick has often stated that he never meant any disrespect to people who died defending the principles of freedom. Nevertheless, Trump seized the occasion to conflate the issue and fire up his core supporters with a racist taunt:

“Wouldn’t  you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out, he’s fired."

The NFL is primarily a league comprised of black athletes. Thus, in the foregoing statement there is no distinction to be made between “son of a bitch” and the n-word.

John McCain is fighting for his life; he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Nevertheless, Trump ridiculed McCain during the rally for his vote against a draconian health care proposal by senate Republicans, and on cue, Trump’s admiring supporters soundly booed McCain.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough called out these rally-goers as something less than humane.  Scarborough explained that he was raised in the same Southern region, went to the same public schools, went to the same Baptist church and the same public colleges. Then he asked: “Who raised these people?  Who have they become that they would boo a man who is fighting for his very life?” He closed with:

“If you still go to church, you need to pray for yourself this Sunday morning in church. And then, when you get your head screwed on right, and you start putting humanity ahead of politics, against stupidity, against the tribalism that is destroying this country, go home and tell your children the story of John McCain.”

Thank you, Joe.

Donald Trump is the very last person in this country who should be complaining about what some might perceive as an insult to the individuals who died while serving honorably and faithfully under the American flag. Those of us who wrote a blank check to the government by voluntarily serving in the military during the Vietnam era had to suffer the indignity of fellow citizens spitting on our uniforms as we passed through airports, while the cowardly Trump enjoyed numerous deferments orchestrated by his rich father. Furthermore, standing before a national audience, Trump invited foreigners to interfere in our last election, and following their successful intervention on his behalf, attempted to sell our government to the Russians. Only a vigilant Congress foiled his treasonous plans. Thus, as a former soldier, it is an incredibly galling experience to watch this traitor offer a hand-salute to current members of the military.

Those who continue to support Trumpexcluding Russians, of coursedo not think right, and probably never did. These purveyors of hate and division are not in any sense true Americans. Such individuals seem more like the inbred offspring of incestuous relations: emulate the leader you adore. Indeed, during an interview with radio personality Howard Stern, Donald Trump agreed to a description of his own daughter as “a piece of ass.”

This is the most powerful man on the planet; it would be difficult to imagine a more revolting specimen of humanity.

Trump Attacks Puerto Rico, Threatens To Pull Emergency Responders

by Adam Edelman

President Donald Trump slammed Puerto Rico on Thursday, saying its power grid and infrastructure were a "disaster" before two hurricanes hit last month and he threatened to pull federal emergency management workers from the storm-ravaged island.

His comments drew furious responses from Democrats who charged he is treating Americans there like "second-class citizens."

Trump tweeted, "'Puerto Rico survived the Hurricanes, now a financial crisis looms largely of their own making.' says Sharyl Attkisson. A total lack of........accountability say the Governor. Electric and all infrastructure was disaster before hurricanes."

(It wasn't clear why Trump referred to Attkisson, a conservative journalist who has repeatedly defended him.)

"Congress to decide how much to spend.......We cannot keep FEMA, the Military & the First Responders, who have been amazing (under the most difficult circumstances) in P.R. forever!" Trump wrote in another Tweet.

McGuinness cared about people.  He joined the IRA after "Bloody Sunday" when the British forces killed people he knew.  Having made his peace with the opposing side, Ian Paisley, its leader and he became inseparable friends.  The Stormont assembly members nicknamed them "The Chuckle Brothers" for their good humor and friendship.  He did many evil deeds, but he was not an evil man and he did make a good hearted and historic move toward peace.

Our Queen is a Christian woman and believes in redemption for the repentant.  She also, May God always bless her, tries to fulfill the role of chief ambassador with foreign leaders - within reason.  She has shaken the hand of many a vile tinpot dictator, for the greater good.  For all her wealth and my personal poverty, I do not envy her for her job.

I am glad she does not have to meet Chump.  Sometimes the job is just too hard, even for that formidable lady.

This is a very sobering look back in time to the Nixon meltdown, with comparisons to the current situation.

And it took “The Final Days” for us to learn what Haig had done in 1974 when he began worrying about Nixon’s “state of mind.” He sent a classified message to Secretary of Defense James Schlesinger that he was to ignore any orders coming from Nixon without Haig’s authorization. Schlesinger forwarded Haig’s message in ultra-top secret “Personal For” format to top American military commanders around the world that any orders from Nixon, including a nuclear strike on Russia or any other nation, were to be ignored.

But, there were a profusion of similar articles all over the net.  I may have been wrong about him after all.  Perhaps he is not so much better than his boss.  Nothing is proven (as yet) and I could be completely wrong.  I hope I am.  Still, I thought I would mention it so you can all decide for yourselves.

Journalist Ron Rosenbaum has pointed out that the operational plan for nuclear strike orders is entirely concerned with the identity of the commanding officer and the authenticity of the order, and there are no safeguards to verify that the person issuing the order is actually sane.[10] Notably, Major Harold Hering was discharged from the Air Force in late 1973 for asking the question "How can I know that an order I receive to launch my missiles came from a sane president?" under Richard Nixon.

I was reading the newspaper a few days ago, when three UCLA basketball players were arrested in China for shoplifting.

Trump was there in China, and asked President Xi if he could help out with these three players, subsequently the three UCLA players were let off the shoplifting charges. Very lucky for them.

Do I like President Trump? I don't know. I don't believe it matters much who is in office in the grand scheme of things.

But in those three players lives, Trump saved their futures concretely.

Sincerely,

Don’t look now, but the Republican tax bill will cut $25 billion from Medicare next year

As both candidate and president, Donald Trump http://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/2017/02/28/trump-doubles-down-on-controversial-pledge-to-leave-social-security-medicare-untouched.html" rel="nofollow - promised not to cut either Medicaid or Medicare, the government health-insurance programs for the poor and the elderly. The Republican party’s tax reform proposal, however, looks set to break that promise.

Comment: A President who ‘creates his own reality’ scares the hell out of me!

Analysis: Trump ‘creates his own reality’

By Josh Dawsey, Ashley Parker and Philip Rucker | Washington Post

President Donald Trump has expressed certainty that the special-counsel probe into his campaign’s possible collusion with Russia will be finished by the end of the year, complete with an exoneration from Robert Mueller, according to several friends who have spoken with him in recent days.

Trump has dismissed his historically low approval ratings as “fake” and boasted about what he calls the unprecedented achievements of his presidency, even while chatting behind the scenes, saying no president since Harry Truman has accomplished as much at this point.

Trump also has occasionally questioned whether the “Access Hollywood” video of him crowing about assaulting women was doctored or inauthentic, asking confidants whether they think the sexual braggart on tape sounds like him, according to two people who have heard him make the comments.

In all these instances, as well as other setbacks, Trump has sought to paint the rosiest possible picture of his presidency and his character – and has tried to will others to see it his way, like the big-promises salesman he once was.

Sometimes, as with his comments about the “Access Hollywood” tape, which were first reported by the New York Times, Trump simply rejects facts – and his own past admissions – as he spins a new narrative. His critics accuse him of creating an alternative reality, though people close to the president say he is simply a savvy marketer protecting his brand, as any businessman or politician would.

This practice, however, could prove problematic for a president of the United States whose careless tweets or misleading statements can send the globe reeling.

“He creates his own reality and lives in his own reality and tries to bend reality around himself and his own deep narcissistic needs,” said Peter Wehner, a veteran of three Republican administrations and a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “But, of course, in the end reality wins out, and trying to disfigure it or reinterpret it doesn’t work.”

The first year of Trump’s presidency has brought tumult and chaos, including the expanding Russia probe, an absence of major legislative achievements and instances of self-sabotage by the president himself. But in recent days, Trump has been in an unusually upbeat mood, according to friends who visited with him.

Trump’s lifelong tendency to project supreme confidence has served him well, especially in the worlds of real estate and celebrity, where braggadocio and self-assurance are valuable commodities. And in some cases it has left him vindicated, particularly in a presidential bid the establishment mocked as destined for defeat.

“Trump is a survivor. It’s one of his great skills,” said Tim O’Brien, author of the biography “TrumpNation” and executive editor of Bloomberg View. “When you look back on all the adversity he’s overcome – he’s survived three marriages, a brush with personal bankruptcy, he’s overseen several corporate bankruptcies, he’s been through withering press coverage . . . I think he tells fables to himself, about himself, to create the narrative he wants to see.”

Trump has taken special comfort in the reassurances of White House lawyer Ty Cobb, who has offered Trump an optimistic view of the Russia probe, saying that he expects Mueller’s investigation to wrap up by the end of the year and that the White House has little to fear, said two White House officials with knowledge of the conversations.

After Mueller’s indictment of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, Trump had a number of conversations with his attorneys and asked other advisers whether he was being served well, according to one of the White House officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

Cobb – who initially said he hoped the probe would have concluded by Thanksgiving – has told Trump and other White House officials that Mueller’s investigators will have completed all of their interviews within two weeks and that the special counsel’s office is no longer requesting new documents, the White House official said. Then, Trump’s legal team has suggested, Mueller’s office could write a report clearing the White House.

Hanging out at Mar-a-Lago and at his South Florida golf clubs, Trump told friends, “This investigation’s going to be over with pretty soon,” adding that his attorneys, whom he praised as “brilliant,” had assured him of it, according to two people familiar with the conversations.

Cobb declined to detail his counsel to Trump. “At this stage on the investigation, I don’t want to interfere in the process of the special counsel or talk about any specific discussions that I’m having with the president,” Cobb said in an interview.

Barry Bennett, a former Trump campaign adviser, said: “There are plenty of us who believe the Mueller probe is a lot closer to an end than people think. . . . We’ve got a case where some people did some stupid things, and none of them involved anything as sinister as what the president’s been accused of.”

Some Trump aides and confidants worry about the president’s optimistic assessment of the situation, which he has repeated in conversations in recent weeks, waxing enthusiastically about how he’s eager to be out from under the Russia cloud by 2018.

One outside adviser to Trump warned that the president would “blow a gasket” if there was no statement of exoneration by year’s end.

Even when presented with irrefutable evidence, Trump finds a way to question unflattering facts.

Trump has occasionally told senior advisers that the “Access Hollywood” tape could be fabricated or may not be real, according to two people who have heard him make the comments. At various moments – including during huddles with his aides at Trump Tower after he won the election and before taking office – Trump has sought to distance himself from the tape.

Trump has asked others whether they think the voice sounds like him, suggesting that it does not, and has wondered aloud whether perhaps the tape was doctored or edited in an unfair way to villainize him.

“He would just assert it, and people would kind of say, ‘OK, let’s move along,’ ” said one person who had heard the comments. “There’s no point in sitting there and litigating it with him.”

A second person who has discussed the tape with Trump recalled, “He says: ‘It’s really not me. I don’t talk like that.’ ”

After the tape was divulged by The Washington Post in October 2016, Trump acknowledged its authenticity and apologized for his crude comments. Asked Monday about reports of the president’s private remarks, in which he seemed to cast doubt on the tape, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the president addressed the “Access Hollywood” scandal during the campaign and won.

“This was litigated and certainly answered during the election by the overwhelming support for the president and the fact that he’s sitting here in the Oval Office today,” Sanders said Monday. “I think if anything that the president questions the media’s reporting.”

Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said Trump’s shifting stories about the “Access Hollywood” incident create whiplash.

“You can’t one minute have an ‘Access Hollywood’ tape and apologize for it and then suddenly send smoke signals that it’s not you,” Brinkley said. “He just makes up his own goal posts and moves them around at will.”

On the campaign trail, aides would often give Trump poll numbers showing him losing to or tied with Hillary Clinton, but when he took the stage at rallies he would pepper his speeches with claims of polls showing him winning.

As president, amid tumult such as the repeated failures to pass a health-care bill, Trump will call advisers and friends to boast about his successes and all but ignore setbacks.

On Tuesday, Trump declared on Twitter that no deal could be reached with congressional Democrats, leading Democratic leaders to pull out of a bipartisan meeting at the White House. Even as a government shutdown appeared more likely, Trump put his own spin on the day’s events, which also included a trip to Capitol to push the GOP tax bill with Republican senators.

“We had a good day today,” Trump told reporters. “We had a phenomenal meeting with the Republican senators. It was very special, that meeting.”

The meeting was, the president insisted, “somewhat of a lovefest.”

Top GOP congressman: Our tax bill was 'mislabeled' to avoid concerns about Trump's 'net worth and business involvements'

http://www.businessinsider.com/mark-sanford-trump-tax-reform-plan-gop-business-2017-12

Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina told reporters that the Republican bill, named the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), is in its essence a corporate tax reform bill with some personal tax cut veneer to make it go down easier.

"Fundamentally the bill has been mislabeled," Sanford said, https://twitter.com/ericawerner/status/938097705087307777" rel="nofollow - according to The Washington Post's Erica Werner. "From a truth-in-advertising standpoint it would have been a lot simpler if we just acknowledged reality on this bill, which is it's fundamentally a corporate tax reduction and restructuring bill, period."

The Republican tax bill got worse: now the top 1% get 83% of the gains

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/taxes/the-republican-tax-bill-got-worse-now-the-top-1percent-get-83percent-of-the-gains/ar-BBH0aay?li=BBnb7Kz

By 2027, over half of all Americans — 53 percent — would pay more in taxes under the tax bill agreed to by House and Senate Republicans, a http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/distributional-analysis-conference-agreement-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act" rel="nofollow - new analysis by the Tax Policy Center finds. That year, 82.8 percent of the bill’s benefit would go to the top 1 percent, up from http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/publications/distributional-analysis-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act-passed-senate" rel="nofollow - 62.1 under the Senate bill .

And even in the first years of the bill's implementation, when it’s an across-the-board tax cut, the benefits of the law would be heavily concentrated among the upper-middle and upper-class Americans, with nearly two-thirds of the benefit going to the richest fifth of Americans in 2018.

and oh

about those expiring provisions I mentioned

you know

the very few little scraps being tossed to the middle class

enjoy them while you can

Almost all provisions of the bill, with the exception of the reduction in the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent, are temporary, expiring at the end of 2025.

yeah

they virtually ALL EXPIRE

SUCKERS !!!!!!!!!LOL

hmmm

I'm a little confused

why did Trump devotees vote for this ???

Those 14 Republican senators: Bob Corker (TN); Steve Daines (MT); Lamar Alexander (TN); Ron Johnson (WI); Rob Portman (OH); James Risch (ID); Jim Inhofe (OK); John Kennedy (LA); Johnny Isakson (GA); John Barrasso (WY); Luther Strange (LA); Rand Paul (KY); Orrin Hatch (UT); John Hoeven (ND). None of these guys is hurting for money. Corker is the Senate's fourth richest member, with a net worth estimated over $69 million, according to the IBT, with as much as $7 million coming from his real-estate partnerships. Daines is worth $14.4 million and earned as much as $4.2 million in rental income. Johnson and Alexander each earned about $1 million from their real-estate ventures.

We've got one real villain here, and that's Orrin Hatch. Sure Corker is an unprincipled hack, but that's just regular Republican. But Hatch, you will remember, is the guy who went on the Senate floor to debate this bill and declared https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/11/30/1719944/-Hatch-leading-the-fight-for-1-5-trillion-deficit-boosting-tax-cuts-says-we-can-t-afford-CHIP" rel="nofollow - that we "don't have money anymore" for the  Children's Health Insurance Program. But money to line his own pocket, along with 13 of his best Senate friends? That's just fine.

sure am glad Trump did all that "swamp drainin'"  LOLLOLLOL

at this point does anyone?

ANYONE ???????????

really believe that things are any different ???

Trump has pulled off one of the biggest political scams in American history
