The CDC Event will be held Jan. 16th and its titled: “Public Health Response to a Nuclear Detonation”

“While a nuclear detonation is unlikely, it would have devastating results and there would be limited time to take critical protection steps. Despite the fear surrounding such an event, planning and preparation can lessen deaths and illness.  For instance, most people don’t realize that sheltering in place for at least 24 hours is crucial to saving lives and reducing exposure to radiation. While federal, state, and local agencies will lead the immediate response efforts, public health will play a key role in responding.

“Join us for this session of Grand Rounds to learn what public health programs have done on a federal, state, and local level to prepare for a nuclear detonation. Learn how planning and preparation efforts for a nuclear detonation are similar and different from other emergency response planning efforts.”

Thanks, Med!  Unfortunately, CDC chickened out and changed the topic to flu:

I hate to say it, but it's going to happen. If it's not North Korea, it'll be a terrorist group. We've managed to make so many enemies around the world in recent decades that would love to nuke a US city and watch the ensuing chaos. Two buildings on 9/11 changed everything. The effect of an entire city being destroyed would be unimaginable.

Sad but true, JD.  Nukes are out there, and who knows who NK or Pakistan may have sold them to?

You sure don't need an ICBM....all sorts of methods are available to get one into the states, including ocean freighters.

Just a matter of when and where in my opinion.  The Arabs like to hit NYC because of the Jewish factor, but with NK, all bets are off.  Probably LA or DC.

When it does happen, I foresee all sorts of mayhem....Israel may launch a few at Iraq, Syria etc., USA would be sure to retaliate against whomever it thought did it, and God only knows what Russia and China might do (attack each other?).
