Denver Health officials on Sunday were investigating a patient in isolation for a possible case of the Ebola virus, authorities confirmed.

“It is a possible but unlikely diagnosis,” Denver Health and Hospitals spokeswoman Jennifer Hillmann said.

Denver Hospital officials diverted ambulances and put the facility downtown on lockdown temporarily Sunday, Hillmann said, but had resumed normal operations Sunday afternoon.

Denver officials are coordinating with federal Centers for Disease Control and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment officials in handling the situation.

Details were not released on the patient other than to confirm that doctors were assessing the situation with the patient in isolation.

The patient was listed in fair condition.

“From an initial review of the situation and the symptoms presented by the patient, it is unlikely that this will be confirmed as an Ebola case,” Denver Health chief medical officer Connie Price said in prepared statement.

“We are, however, following our standard procedures and taking every necessary precaution.”

Denver Health is on normal operations and there is no threat or concern for patient, staff or visitor safety. The hospital is open for business as usual.

Denver Health staff is trained and equipped to deal with situations involving infectious diseases. The hospital is one of 10 regional facilities designated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to care for patients with Ebola.

Yep, makes me nervous! I never believe the first report "not likely" give me the facts not suppositions. I will be watching this one.

Ok my question has this person had Ebola or been to a country with Ebola. Tell us folks so I know if I need to start some extra preps!

[I found this, FluMom. The paper is a Tabloid, but I don't think them liars. So it is safe to assume this is a health worker returned from the Congo outbreak.]

A COLORADO hospital was put in lockdown and a patient placed in isolation over fears of a possible Ebola virus outbreak.

Emergency crews in hazmat suits were seen entering Denver Health Medical Center yesterday afternoon after a man suddenly fell ill at home earlier that day.

Dr Connie Price, an infectious disease physician and chief medical officer at Denver Health, said: “The symptoms can mimic a lot of common illnesses… anything from the flu to appendicitis.

"From an initial review of the situation and the symptoms presented by the patient, it is unlikely that this will be confirmed as an Ebola case."

Test results are reportedly expected to come back later today.

The medical facility was briefly put on lockdown, with ambulances diverted to other hospitals, after the patient arrived at 8.30am local time on Sunday.

Denver Health spokeswoman Jennifer Hillmann said: “The patient’s symptoms could represent a variety of common illnesses.

“The patient in question had reported being in an area of the Congo on a medical missionary trip, but he was in a location where the Ebola outbreak had been officially declared over, with no cases reported for 45 days, according to the CDC."

Officials said normal operations were resumed at the hospital by the late afternoon and there is no threat or concern for patient, staff or visitor safety.

The deadly Ebola virus disease is a serious illness that originated in Africa, where a large outbreak occurred between 2014 and 2016.

It's only known to be spread through direct contact with bodily fluids and causes fevers, headaches, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach pain and unexplained bleeding or bruising.

The last significant outbreak, which killed 33 people in the Congo, was declared over on Tuesday after aspeedy international response that apparently contained its spread to remote rural areas.

There has been no Ebola cases in the US.

Yes the person was in Ebola country the Congo. The initial tests say no ebola and person is getting better. Man one plane ride away from Ebola. Be aware folks it could happen very fast!
