Sorry but if I traveled by train I would have a back pack with water, good shoes, food bars, and other necessary items. You never know when TSHTF where you will be. I have a survival backpack and boots in my car at all times. Now this has happened I am going to check the backpack and see if I need to replace anything.

I take the train to visit my family in Northern California from Southern California every few months. It used to be monthly before I started my current job. It's about an 8 hr tri (train, Amtrak bus, train), but I've been caught in blizzards before on the Grapevine before on the Amtrak bus, which has made an 8 hour trip become a 15 hour trip before. We've also lost power to the engine, hit cows, had cars on fire on the track, derailed slightly due to hitting boxes and other debris on the track, etc - I've been commuting by train for about 10 years now since it's the most direct path outside of driving. I always bring extra food and electrolyte drinks with me just in case. I can't believe people rely on the train to have everything for them. Most of the time I ride the train, the cafe car has ran out of everything except for alcohol about halfway through the trip. That is a big reason I bring my own food with me. I carry any other necessary items with me to begin with because that's just how I typically travel.

You are smart Hachi, when I was a kid my mom, sister and I took a train trip. Mom and I packed a large picnic lunch/dinner and my sister said we were dumb because she was going to eat in the diner. When we got on the train she asked the conductor where the diner car was..."No diner car". I asked my mom should we share our picnic my sister almost cried. I was about 7 sis 10. That was my lesson to never go on a trip without food and drinks. The start of prepping...lol.

I also bring a small portable fan in the summer months and a blanket in the winter because sometimes the AC/Heating breaks down on the older buses/trains and it feels awful really quick.
