If you're not preping or believe the Bird Flu will occur, close this post now and go watch cartoons. Its Saturday and I'm sure the bird feeder needs filling. For the rest of us read on.....

Only the blind could'nt see what is fixing to happen with the slow response in Turkey by their government and international bodies and other nations to maintain the "Status Quo"

Belgium hospitalizes person with flu symptoms (English)
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Belgium said on Saturday it had hospitalized a person who had come down with the flu after returning from the region in Turkey hit by the deadly bird flu. | The person went to a hospital on Friday, ..

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you are waiting on the WHO to tell ya when or what to do... make sure you order your monogramed body bag at Costco today. (They have sold out in Turkey) ...at least you can prep for that.   As usual the news is full today of everybody rushing to help Turkey... too late and wrong place to be going.

The airports have been running full tilt in and out of Turkey to points all over the world.

We've all seen the suspected case headlines in other countries. Then the negetive test result,,, then three weeks later after the death a positive test result.

It's time to do your final perps here in the USA. The shelves will be bare in Europe in a couple of weeks if not sooner.

It's still too early to panic though.  We have to see if there are any other additional isolated outbreaks in other parts of the world.  This  could be a false alarm, however, if we see other outbreaks, then it "has begun" lol.

All we have to do is watch for the results from those who traveled to the Haji and see what happens.

No panic here. I've done most of what I can do. If you prepare physically the mental takes care of its self.

I know a songwriter that says often,"Doing something is better than doing nothing. Even if it's wrong at least you're doing something."

We have all caught alot of Hell for trying to help others become educated and concerned about BF. It's almost over trying to motivate those we love to prepare for the inevitable.

Like the Devil says, "Tell them there is a God but that they have time to prepare for heaven."

Well times about up the devil is knocking at the door.

A man in Belgium has tested negative for bird flu after falling ill upon his return from the Turkish province worst hit by the disease, Belgian Health Minister Rudy Demotte said on Saturday.

I agree Meewee.

Corn- You're right.  You have to be prepared physically - mentally -emotionally.   You almost have to become a "Super-fighter" in order to survive the "Super-flu".

You always have to fight at all times.

Looks like a false alarm. There is normal flu around as well:

This may sound funny coming from me as I am seen as a contrarian to the alarmists (to a degree by some).  To others, I am seen as an alarmist because I have tracked Sichuan Sheet in all of its animal outbreaks (potential outbreaks) Nobody knows because there appears to be coverups everywhere. So now I am going to say that just because Belgium says they had a negative test does not mean that this reporter does not have Bird Flu (H5N1).  We have seen this before.

In Turkey, the initial tests were negative. Go back and check the string from early on and you will find that I said that it was Bird Flu regardless of their tests.  One or two days later I was proven right when Turkey confirmed that they had H5N1 on their hands in their population.

This initial negative in Belgium could be a repeat performance.  I'd give it a fifty fifty chance of being either/or.

We've seen this before.  Here comes the false negative.  I hope the WHO has a team in flight.  The WHO should be there right now explaining that you can't get results back that fast.

These false negatives is a clear reflection of the WHO's failure to educate the medical community around the world.

Seems like the same senario as happened in Turkey...first they have it, then they don't and when it is too late to do anything; then it's confirmed they have it!  Somehow these guys really think that everyone is going to buy into that. GEEESH!

Since this person is diagnosed as negative...does he stay in the hospital and not be in isolation?  That would be pretty dumb because if he is positive in a few days he would have spread it around.  I hope the hospital there is smart enough to keep him in isolation.
I read elsewhere that some people are ill, go to the hospital and leave before they receive results.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY?!!!

If they are so sure he just has a cold why is he still hospitalized?

AP) Preliminary blood tests showed no sign of bird flu in a patient hospitalized in Belgium after returning from Turkey, top health officials said Saturday.

Health Minister Rudy Demotte told a news conference that tests showed the patient, a Russian television freelance journalist who lives in Brussels, did not have the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus.

“We are sure--two tests prove it--that it is not H5 flu, so it is not an avian flu,” Demotte said, calming fears and adding that Belgium's new influenza crisis plan had for the most part worked well in dealing with the potential outbreak.

“For the future we will reinforce the plans,” said Demotte. “This case was for us very satisfying. We had in a very short time tests (results) that exclude H5” bird flu.

The preliminary tests carried out after the patient checked into a hospital showed the patient suffered only a common flu, said Dr. Rene Snacken, head of Belgium's Public Health Scientific Institute.

“First preliminary results showed a common seasonal strain,” he told reporters.

Fear was high that the journalist, who was filming a documentary in the Turkish eastern Van province, had contracted bird flu, which would have made him the first person to take the human form of the disease into Europe.

The province has been one of several eastern Turkish regions hit by bird flu in recent weeks.

In Turkey, 18 people have been confirmed infected with H5N1, including three children who died a week ago.

All are suspected to have had direct contact with infected birds.

Officials said the journalist, whose age and name were not given, checked into the hospital in Brussels on Friday with flu-like symptoms, the day after returning from Van with his cameraman.

Piet Vanthemsche, head of Belgium's special influenza task force, said all persons the journalist came in contact with had been notified, including family, the cameraman who accompanied the Russian to Turkey and those on the flight from Turkey, which stopped in Munich, Germany.

Vanthemsche said the journalist told health officials he did not have any direct contact with poultry in Turkey.

The patient remains under observation in an isolated ward at the hospital until his health improves, officials said, adding final test results were expected Sunday, confirming the preliminary test results.

HMMM   something just doesn't add up.  They say 100% for sure he doesn't have h5n1 so why keep him in isolation.  Remember in the 80's when all of Russia's news was pure propaganda?  How is it 3 children are already sent home just a couple days after being admitted and found to have H5N1?  I have a strong feeling we are being totally lied to!

Turk bird flu patients discharged and journalist cleared

By Paul de BendernSat Jan 14, 12:04 PM ET

The World Health Organization confirmed on Saturday that three people who caught the deadly bird flu virus have been discharged from hospital in Turkey as the government stepped up efforts to fight the outbreak.

Belgium's Health Ministry also said tests on a journalist who felt ill after returning from Turkey's worst hit province showed he did not have bird flu.

Turkey's government met on Saturday to discuss measures to help the country's $3 billion poultry industry, which is at risk of collapse after the outbreak swept large parts of the country.

The Agriculture Ministry said more than 590,000 wild birds and poultry had been culled and farmers were being compensated.

The World Health Organization (WHO), in Turkey to help authorities fight the outbreak, said three H5N1 infected people -- aged eight to 17 -- had been discharged from hospital.

"We have a total of 18 human bird flu cases -- three dead, and three discharged," said WHO spokeswoman Cristiana Salvi.

"We still don't know if more confirmed cases will come because bird flu is still among the poultry population and humans, particularly children, are still at risk from contact with sick birds."

Donors have promised to step up contributions for fighting bird flu, with the European Union pledging $100 million as concerns linger that the disease could mutate to strike humans and unleash a pandemic.

The virus still mostly affects birds but has infected about 150 people worldwide and killed at least 78.

BELGIUM ALL-CLEAR

The human victims of the disease had all been in East Asia until the outbreak in Turkey brought the virus to the crossroads of Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Three infected children died last week in eastern Turkey. The WHO said a four-year-old girl who died on Friday in the eastern province Van had pneumonia, not bird flu.

Worries that the disease had reached the European Union were quashed on Saturday when health officials told a mass of reporters from across the 25-naton bloc that the journalist had tested negative for bird flu and just had seasonal human flu.

The Russian freelance television journalist, who had been living in Belgium, went to hospital in Brussels on Friday upon feeling ill when he returned on Thursday from an assignment in Turkey's Van province.

"The initial results of the tests would indicate that we are not dealing with bird flu," Health Minister Rudy Demotte said.

Rene Snacken, the head of the Scientific Institute of Public Health in Belgium, the government body that did the tests, added: "It is 100 percent confirmed that the strain corresponds to seasonal flu."

He said the institute was going to do final tests to discover which strain of flu the man, who has not been identified, has.

Government officials said the journalist had visited affected farms in Turkey and seen bird flu patients in hospital, but had had no direct contact with poultry. He is being kept in isolation while tests continue.

A European Commission spokesman said earlier the EU's executive body was closely monitoring the case. If he had tested positive, it would have been the first confirmed human case in the EU since the bird flu re-emerged in late 2003.

If they were really so sure I assure you he would not be in isolation.  The reason they keep down playing the BF is if they panic the public it would greatly affect the economy.  So it is better in the Govs eyes to have more deaths (due to unpreparedness) but a more stable economy than less deaths (due to preparing and stockpiling) that could crash the economy.  in other words it's all about money not lives saved.  Though this concept does make sense in the aspect that it is tough for everyone in a bad economy,  it is not the morally correct way to think.  Remember those making the decisions Republican and Democrat ALL I stress ALL have most of their money tied up in the stock market.  Every single polititian's financial well being depends on the stock market.  So whatever keeps the market the most stable is what will be done! This is just how it is going to be and will not change.

Maybe I was too hasty about d1dd1.

Cirtical views are great to have.  I just like to be sure that the people that have the critical views are not just here to cause problems.  If you believe that AI is a threat, but you have a critical view, you are more than welcome to share it here, IMO.    I've  seen other boards in which people like niman are terrorized and attacked -  There are people that take the BF as a joke and they just like attacking people.  d1dd1 is not one of those people.   Those are the people that are not allowed to participate.

They are probably keeping him in isolation because, from what I've read, a person with regular flu (and this guy probably has a strong case of it) needs to contract the avian flu, for the two to merge and the pandemic strain to start. They are probably trying tokep this guy from being patient 0.

Ahhhh.  The famous "patient 0".  I'm wondering who will be dubbed patient 0 when it's all over.  A friend of mine is leaving for Europe tomorrow for a two vacation.  Yes, he's bringing his Tamiflu lol.  Anyway, he was joking with me on the phone stating that he might end up being patient 0 now that he has to go to Europe lol.

If you are not familiar with what I'm talking about, patient 0 is the very first infected person who will carry the new strain right after it mutates.  Patient 0 is the first "seed" of H5N1 that will spread  the disease everywhere - through the airports - during the initial 3 day incubation period.  This initial H5N1 seed is known as patient zero.
