A 10 lb. CO2 refill costs $17. How many refills would buy a generator? And could you have it refilled after TSHTF?
 
As to the feasibility of the idea, don't know. It doesn't sound reasonable to me though. I would think that when you opened the door you would lose as much cooling as you could provide.

Place bottles/ gallon jugs/ gallon ziplocs/ filled with water in any spare space in freezer. A freezer full of frozen items stays colder longer. When it does un thaw you will have cold drinking water.
