Cairo, May 20, (BNA) The Egyptian Health Ministry, denied, in the words of its official spokesman, Dr. Abdulrahamn Shaheen, rumours, published by newspapers today, about a child contracting the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus.
Dr.Shaheen assured that the two-year-old Mina Ashraf Yussef, from Al Amudeen village, is safe, affirming that the number of human bird flu cases hasn't exceeded 14 since the outbreak of disease. He added that the Health Ministry has been dealing transparently with the issue without concealing any information and asserting that laboratory tests to which the boy was subject were negative. The Ministry called on all citizens who raise poultry at home to keep their children away from birds, especially those apparently infected. It is to be noted that 14 Egyptian people have, so far, been announced to carry the virus, eight of whom were completely cured and six died.
