Around here, SoCal, used RVs are cheap and many/most of them have stuff that would make long term survival easier and more comfortable.  Gensets, water systems, heaters, AC, gas powered reefer, batteries and inverters, etc.  Our RV would make spending a few days isolated after a needed trip out much easier and more comfortable while reducing the risk to family.

I'll plant the seed for now and if you have questions, post them and I'll answer what I can.

Great post Corky!!

We also have a large camper that will be used for isolation and or spill-over housing.  Although our situation is not the norm, our camper has loomed large in our plans.

Thanks for bringing it up!

PS: We will park it in front of the garage doors cross-wise to block that entrance.

Sophia,

You might want to look into a locking gas cap and armoring the fuel tank, several of my neighbors had their gas tanks punched and drained when gas went sky high, this might be worse.  A simple sheet of steel worked on my rig, covers and protects gas tank and filler tube.

I live in earthquake country and the RV has been a fixture in our preparation for that possibility.  You must have used google earth to look at my house, RV lives parked across the front of the garage.

Thanks for the tip about the locking gas caps!  Going on my list right away.

Currently this is not an issue,  fenced yard with 3 very large, very territorial dogs.

Also might put a mallet and tank punch on your list of stuff for really bad times.  Much easier to punch and drain tanks than to siphon if needs come to worst.

Yeah, I am pretty naive about that kinda thing but had it explained about 4 months ago.  Apparently many gas caps have some kind of anti-syphon thingy so punching a gas tank is faster, more hidden, and you don't get that nasty gas taste.

The things I have learned during pandemic prep is staggering if I stop to think about them.
