    Posted: February 09 2008 at 8:51pm
Sorry first post and I have been here reading alot but havn't posted much.  I had stocked up on Oscillococcinum for my preps.

On Friday morning my 6 year old daughter got up and said her stomach didn't feel good.   I told here to lay down on the couch and I made a wet dose of the Oscillococcinum.  I took her temperature and it was up a biit but not alot.  I left her laying quietly on the couch.  Within 30 minutes her temperature started going up.  She started holding her stomach and saying her stomach really hurt.  She was also complaining of her head hurting.  I gave her some tylenol.  She was saying her saliva was yucky so I told her to go up and brush her teeth.  She was in the bathroom for a few seconds and she threw up on the floor.  Got her back on the couch and decided it was time to give her Gravel for nausea.    Let her for about 1/2 hour and her stomach cramping had stopped so I gave her a capful of the Oscillococcinum.  At this point I thought I better start taking the same dose myself.   Within 3 hours she said she felt better.  I was amazed.  She wasn't 100% but the stomach cramping stopped, only threw up once, no headache.

We continued taking the Oscillococcinum 2 or 3 more times on Friday.  We also both took a few teaspoons of collidial silver through the day.   She ate very light, stomach not quite right but not really sick.  Friday night I slept not well.  M stomach was feeling not right but no actual stomach pain, tossed and turn during the nigt.  In the morning both me and my daughter woke up feeling not great.  No outright stomach pain but stomach just not feeling good.  Right away we took another capful of the Oscillococcinum.  Within an hour we both felt fine.  We continued taking a capful each through the day.  Both of us ate lunch and dinner.  Not huge amounts but I didn't stick to the broth and jello like the previous day.  We stuck close to home today but we aren't really sick.  Not sure if we are contagious or not.

I am amazed at how well the Oscillococcinum worked.  Normally if my daughter gets the flu I get sick the following day.  When I was telling my mom on the phone she said it must be a 24 hour flu but I laughed and said no it was a 4 hour flu.  I still can't believe that the Oscillococcinum worked that well.  I had done my research on Oscillococcinum a few weeks ago and was reading that the dose recommended on the package wasn't needed.  That using a capful of the pellets was enough for a dose.

Just thought that some of you might find our experience with Oscillococcinum useful.  I should also say that we both have had flu shots. We were told it was the noro virus that was going around.  We have been taking multi vitamins, zinc and vitamin c daily.  Also a wet dose of the Oscillococcinum every other day.

Lorna,

Im curious why you are treating your child for these significant symptoms instead of seeking professional medical advice?

1. Oscillococcium has been peer-reviewed
tested in randomized trials.
Its effectiveness in the prevention and
treatment of influenza like symptoms
was not established.
Source:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16766878?ordinalpos=3&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum

2. Gravel Root is not indicated for nausea.
It is not recommended for children.
It is used to treat adults with genito-urinary
problems. The dosage should be carefully
monitored and should not be exceeded.
Source:

3. A physician should be consulted before
giving colloidal silver to a child.
Source:
http://nccam.nih.gov/health/alerts/silver/index.htm

4. Failing to seek appropriate and timely
medical care for your child constitutes
Medical Neglect and Child Abuse.
Thats not just my opinion, its the law.

Gravel in Canada is an anti nausea medication.  It is for children.  I wouldn't  even consider bringing her in to emergency for the flu.  For straight flu they do nothing but send you home and tell you to rest and drink lots of liquids.   Going to a doctor would be a wait of at least 2 months for an appointment.

We use collidial silver all the time.  We have had amazing results with it.  Collidial silver in small amounts is not harmful to a child.

lol child neglect! That is just the most ridulous thing I have ever heard of.  We are talking about a case of stomach flu.

Next time I won't even post.  I think you are completely out of line.

now i dont post often at all as i prefer to read and learn and just be quiet mostly, but the post by Pandemicshappen just burned my biscuits.  sheeesh!

child abuse for not taking a kid to the emergency room for stomach flu---what the heck are you thinking?

you are on a prep board where people are obviously investing quite a bit of themselves learning about becoming self sufficient and you post a whiny butt complaint with a not too slight accusation of child abuse when someone posts their experience with what the PC crowd calls 'alternative' treatment.

your 'curious' why they didnt seek professional medical advice when there was NO sign of an emergency or severe illness, but an upset stomach, some puking and slight fever.......hmmmmmm.

im 'curious' why you think its even any of your business.  i raised 4 kids and if i ran to the emergency room or to the doctor every time one of them puked or started a fever, my DR would think i had no commen sense.

ive used the same items Iamrobertson and they are excellant.

if i piss someone off and get banned or something, well, im not a rude person or a troll.....but Pandemicshappen, you are way out of line insinuating what you did.  your response is the perfect example of one of the main things wrong with this country.  the mind set that a parent cant possible know what is best for their child and if they do not respond in a way that the TPTB predetermines as CORRECT then the parent has 'put their child at risk' ---bullmuffins!  your post was insulting, demeaning and just plain old biased.

That was quite a flame, I'm not surprised you burned your buscuits.

Fact: the child presents with severe stomach pain, a rapidly rising temperature, head ache and vomiting.

Fact: the mother fails to seek professional medical advice and pours 'alternative' treatments in a six year old child.

Plus, I'm a "perfect example of one
of the main things wrong with this country".

Perhaps so, if being wrong means,
using common sense, being an informed
healthcare consumer and having enough
love for my children to take them to
the doctor when medically indicated.

You know I thought you hadn't replied because you were smart enough to know you were out of line.  You don't go to emergency for stomach flu.  Plain and simple.  If you run into emergency for stomach, flu, colds the doctors in emerg are going to look at you like you are crazy.  Its one thing if you have a child vommiting continuously, becoming dehydrated, high fever, etc.  I only put etc because I think most people have the common sense to figure it out.

You know I happened to mention this post with a doctor from the emerg in our hospital the other day.  He laughed. He said with what I described and the fact that norovirus that is going around the area he wouldn't have advised going in to emergency.  He also commented on the child abuse allegation.  Something to the effect of public board and anyone can join.  Typing words on a public board doesn't account for much, certainly not a person credidentials or whether they have any.

Maybe she got better because she threw up.
Maybe it was the teeth brushing (when saliva tastes yucky) that helped.

I checked pubmed myself  and found the conclusion of the cochrane review:  "Current evidence does not support a preventative effect of Oscillococcinum-like homeopathic medicines in influenza and influenza-like syndromes."

Sometimes it is useful to pretend that you believe the opposite of what you really believe, and then look for evidence to support this opposite view.
Consider: http://www.nmsr.org/quacky.htm

I am glad that things turned out well for your daughter.

Well I might have agreed with you but we had another chance to try it out.  My aunt got noroviris.  She had seen a doctor and was diagnosed with flu -norovirus.  Same thing gave her the Oscillococcinum.  Within about 3 hours she was better.  Still drained but not sick.    And she didn't think it would work either.

My two children (8 and 6) and I all had our turns with a horrible, horrible flu this February and March. I got it twice, as did my daughter. My son only got it once. I'm not sure why, but the second time was way, way worse.

I took this med, Oscillo, and it worked great for us as well. Very unexpected. I really liked the taste, as it tastes a bit like vanilla rock candy, and it's just a very small amount in a little plastic "vial". My kids actually took it without complaint, which is completely UNLIKE them. They HATE medicine!

I read on the package that this is the number 1 flu medication sold over the counter in France? I wonder if there's any people who can verify this who are from France? Not sure, but I did buy a few extra packages to stock in my medical supplies. It was a bit expensive, but worth it, imo.

Thanks for jogging my memory about this...I had completely forgotten about using this product until I saw your post.

Have used Oscillococcinum for years and it works every single time. I cannot tolerate flu shots, infact I'm allergic to 98% of pharmaceuticals. Yes, I know, pharmaceuticals are made from plant deritives but it's the other stuff they add in that doesn't work well for me.

Besides Oscillococcinum for "seasonal flu", there are certain homeopathic formulas that are specific for certain levels of flu.   One of them is Gelsemium.

Gelsemium: The number one flu remedy, it was used successfully during the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918. It is indicated for flus that come on slowly and are accompanied by a dull aches in the back of the head and perhaps dizziness. There would be a feeling of heaviness in the limbs, head and eyes, and the person would feel weak, lethargic, trembling and apathetic. The eyes may be half-closed. The muscles ache and chills run up and down the spine, alternating with fever. There would be little of no thirst at all with the above symptoms.

Google Organic Consumer Association, (organicconsumer.org),  if you care to, they've had good information on their main page lately with this H1N1 business.

I can confirm they sell oscilloccocinum (anas barbariae) over the counter in France - I live in South-West Germany, 5 minutes away from the French/German border.  The product is amazing, and very inexpensive - 4-5 euros.  My experience of using it was the same - the most effective medicine I have ever used against flu.  I took it, not really expecting it to work, and was planning on using another homeopathic remedy - L52, also sold over the counter in France - if it didn't - since I knew that L52 could be quite effective, and far more effective than any traditional medicine I had ever tried.  Within the hour of taking the vial of oscillococcinum, I had no more symptoms, and was able to go outside in the garden, and battle 3 hours with my Christmas tree lights at minus 8 temperature.  It was absolutely amazing, and most welcome in this period of panic about H1N1.  I then had to prepare for my parent's visit, which meant lots of cleaning, new duvet covers, hoovering, etc, and, despite all the heavy physical work (for an office worker suffering from flu), I had not another symptom until about 6 hours later - when I got to see just  how ill I really was, as the effects of the oscilloccocinum wore off.  Popping another vial, the symptoms yet again disappeared within the hour.  It meant that Christmas was completely flu-free, except, as said, every 6-8 hours.  But I didn't really have to care about that: I continued to pop the vial (every 6-8 hours, no more than 3 times a day), until it was clear about a week later that I no longer needed it.  Towards the end, I only needed it twice or once a day.  Traditional medicine has never been that effective for me.  From now on I will use Oscilloccocinum all the time. And luckily I can buy it over the counter, by going just down the road. And I wouldn't hesitate giving it to children or  feel the remotest bit guilty.  I would, however, feel guilty clogging their system up with the traditional pharmaceutical concoctions that doctors usually prescribe.   The French believe wholeheartedly in their homeopathic remedies - and thank goodness for me they do.  Oscilloccocinum is France's most popular flu remedy.   I believe that the English royal family also prefer homeopathic remedies - and with the money they have, that ain't for no good reason.  It's because it's effective.  You don't really have to understand why it's effective in order to take it and feel so much better.  There will always be studies to dispute its efficacy: what a shame, cos it's such an easy way to feel so much better.
