A very mixed picture

On the other hand: https://www.rt.com/usa/415125-tillerson-iran-deal-congress-changes/, https://sputniknews.com/us/201801061060551753-north-korea-us-donald-trump-crazy/ The US must get the message that their point of view in international affairs is not backed by any other country.

If the US want to start a war with North Korea and Iran (at the same time) it would be a war against China and Russia (main investors/allies of NK and Iran) and even against Pakistan, Turkey...

https://www.rt.com/news/415133-isis-declares-war-on-hamas/ Hamas-PLO-Hezbollah all-in Israels opinion under Iran influence-now Hamas is not doing enough against Israel-according to IS (that never attacks Israel) ?

http://theduran.com/heres-who-washingtons-sending-arms-meet-nazi-ukraines-would-be-fuhrer/ DJ-US giving military aid to Ukraine, Taiwan, Japan is creating more problems with Russia and China.

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/06/548010/Maduro-US-Treasury-sanctions Venezuela may open its ports for Russian, Chinese, Iran (and Cuban, Nicaraguan) navy-could well be a next step.
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-05/chaos-strikes-14-million-afghans-have-30-days-leave-pakistan Pakistan returning 1.4 milion Afghan refugees-maybe Iran considering returning close to 3 million refugees (some of them with combat-experience from Iraq, Syria) will have an effect on the Afghan situation.

A possible scenario could be; since US-Saudi-Israel by proxy invaded Iran via "protests"-it is better to choose a battlefield-Afghanistan could be next ? (So no war in Lebanon as Saudi Arabia with Israel/US planned against Hezbollah). As long as the US has a presence in the region IS has a presence in the region.

Social media and regime-change

US war on terror involved 39% of all countries (and only made things worse for most-some got rich by it)

http://www.moonofalabama.org/2018/01/trump-offloads-foreign-policy-problems-lets-eu-grow-a-spine.html#

Armstrong, a former Canadian defense official and Russia specialist, thinks that Trump is taking his extreme positions only to press others to take over and let Trump and the U.S. leave the issue aside. If the EU takes up the Iran issue or Cuba, if Russia engages in the Middle East "peace process" and if South Korea handles the North Korea problem, Trump will be fine with it. There nothing to win in those issues for his core agenda.

Korybko's piece, Trump: Agent Of Chaos (a.k.a. “The Kraken”), presumes that Trump is deliberately creating chaos to better the U.S. position. There is a high chance that this will not work and the U.S. will have to retreat to its hemisphere. Trump knows this but does not care - he can live with both outcomes but may even prefer the retreat to a more isolationist stand.

I do not believe that Trump is as stupid as his enemies portrait him. Trump simply does not explain what he is doing. He is letting everyone guessing, even his own staff. One has to watch what he does, not what he says.

Trump does not care about many foreign issues where the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations were the first to meddle. In his view the various adventures abroad to not further U.S. core interests. If other countries can be pushed into taking these up, the U.S. can leave the issues aside. His position is the opposite of what the usual Washington grown-ups are used to do. They are fighting him down to tooth and nail.

Will Trump survive long enough to successfully pursue this strategy and to make a lasting difference?

Or is the Armstrong/Korybko theory completely wrong?

DJ; The outcome will be that the US is side-lined-other (group of) countries take over. The basis for US-global domination is a combination of US-energy-link (petro-dollar) and a military to enforce that financial system.

Without the energy link the US economy will need to "accommodate", this could make the US in many ways a third world country. Having the military for global domination will cause inbalance.

I wonder if Trump realy knows what he is doing. The few remaining partners, Israel, Japan-maybe Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, can choose-go in isolation with the US or be part of a new global trade system with the BRICS playing a major role.

https://www.debka.com/act-2-trump-clampdown-iran-re-imposing-sanctions-lifted-nuclear-accord/:

This is what Tillerson meant by “fixing” rather than “cancelling” the nuclear accord. He is charged with reformulating the deal, while upholding the Trump policy for countering Iran’s regional aggression and continuing support for anti-regime protests. These steps are components of the drawn-out, staged war of attrition the Trump administration has begun orchestrating against the revolutionary Shiite regime in Tehran for the year of 2018.

The following steps are already in the pipeline, DEBKAfile reports:

  1. President Trump may refrain this time from signing on to the sanction waivers, but may re-certify Iran’s compliance with the accord.
  2. The US Treasury Department has meanwhile announced new sanctions targeting banks, financial entities and officials – whether involved in Iran’s missile program or propping up the Revolutionary Guard Corps and its actions to suppress popular dissent.
  3. Washington will likewise target entities in the Middle East and beyond that serve Tehran and receive Iranian financial assistance and weapons. Examples are Lebanon, Hizballah, the Iraqi Shiite militias under Iranian command, Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and others.
  4. A broad US strategy is now in place for halting or slashing American aid programs to entities and governments which refuse to cooperate with the administration’s policy objectives.
  5. Donald Trump’s original plan was to work closely with the Europeans on his drive against Iran. Since the European governments have not only opted out of cooperation but are flatly opposed to US support for the Iranian protesters, Washington is forging ahead on its own, without reference to any European capital.
Trump has thus scrapped one of the basic principles which gave birth to the nuclear accord, close cooperation between the US, Russia and the leading European powers.
  6. The breakup of this transatlantic partnership confronts Russia’s Vladimir Putin with a dilemma. Lining up with Europe on Iran would place Moscow on a collision course with the Trump administration. That Moscow knows exactly what is at stake was evident in the remarks made by Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on Jan. 4, in response to Washington’s call for a UN Security Council to discuss repression in Iran: “We warn the US against attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” He also cautioned Washington against being “tempted to use the moment to raise new issues with regard to the JCPOA (the 2015 nuclear accord.)

While speaking with a gaggle of reporters this afternoon, Mattis was asked what his biggest military concern of 2018 was.

His response:

“I don’t have concerns. I create them”

The quote follows in a long tradition of magnificent Mattis quotes, including his answer to what keeps him awake at night:

“Nothing. I Keep Other People Awake At Night.”

Unbelievable ... Jaap De Hoop Scheffer

by Oui Sun Jan 7th, 2018 at 09:57:14 PM EST

"The West should respect the red lines of Russia."

Yep, just recently I met the former NATO secretary general while buying a book as Xmas present for a friend. JDHS is a former acquaintance long before he became Dutch foreign minister of the Iraq War fame.

Ever since I have seen the SG become more entangled in the web of right-wing intrigues of an aggressive NATO policy of the West. Just very recently a so-called independent policy group advised the Rutte cabinet on Dutch foreign policy issues. I was saddened by its neoconservative attitude. I was even more surprised to find JDHS as chair for the foreign policy forum, hardly an independent thinker after all those years of supporting military AngloSaxon policy for the West.

Here are a few snippets from his interview ...

'NATO should not have committed to membership of Ukraine and Georgia'

NATO has driven Vladimir Putin into a corner, making him more radical. These are not the words of Russia, but those of NATO's former Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

According to Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, the West must respect the Russian red line. The speed of NATO enlargement has contributed to Putin's aggressive stance in the former Soviet Union.

NATO should not have committed to Ukraine and Georgia in 2008, the former NATO executive said. He calls it understandable that Putin has opposed it. "He said to me, after the communiqué came true: mister secretary-general, this will not be. This is not going to happen!"

More below the fold ...

The NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008 was a breaking point in the relationship between Russia and the West. NATO opened the door for Georgia and Ukraine. Both countries were allowed to join, even though no date was mentioned. That was the wish of the American President Bush. The German Chancellor Merkel resisted. But NATO decided to leave the door ajar. That was unspeakable for Russia and Putin also said that afterwards.

The former Secretary General now says that he underestimated the response and that he should have done more to keep the parties on the same level. According to De Hoop Scheffer, the decision led to a radicalization at Putin.

NATO Visit to Georgia Condemned | Moscow Times - Sept. 18, 2008 |   [cached]

The Foreign Ministry issued an unusually harsh condemnation of NATO chief Jaap de Hoop Scheffer's visit to Georgia, saying it showed a Cold War mentality and would further destabilize the region.

NATO's support for Georgia after last month's war with Russia can only be seen as "encouraging Tbilisi to engage in new reckless ventures," the ministry said in a statement.

De Hoop Scheffer and envoys from all 26 member countries were in Georgia this week. Georgia is eager to join the Western military alliance, a step Russia strongly opposes.

The NATO delegation visited the central Georgian city of Gori, which was occupied by Russian troops during the war.

"Yankees Go Home!" - Sevastopol, Crimea

It's been a stubborn fallacy to place blame on Russia as Georgian troops attacked a peacekeeping force in South Ossetia under leadership of Saakashvili.

EU-US conflict

DJ- The "Eurotribune" article above makes clear the rift between the EU and US started already in 2008. The US-Bush-pressed for NATO membership of Ukraine, Georgia-the EU-Merkel- (and Russia) were against that-so it was kept open (with the pro-western Maidan-coup in the future, the US-Nuland-"F..k the EU"). Europe was divided in 2003-start of Iraq (weapons of mass destruction (WMD)-US-lie, DJ-Iraq did have a program of WMD-but that was Saudi financed-the US knew about it-during the 1981-88 Iraq-Iran war. The "west" then was supporting Saddam Hussein against Iran (and the Kurds))
http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/07/548175/eu-iran-protests-gabriel DJ-My impression is that the EU-most memberstates-have a good relation with Iran. Several EU countries have major investments in Iran. (So a US-Saudi-Israel (USI) by proxy attack on Iran is harming the EU, (and China, Russia, South Korea-also (very) major investors in the region). https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-07/shahs-cia-history-western-intervention-iran-part-1, War with Iran plans https://southfront.org/us-winks-israel-bites-shifting-middle-east-alliances-war-iran-hold/

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-07/who-killed-iran-protests With Trump and Netanyahu giving support for the protests in Iran protest had no chance. Saudi Arabia even started something about womens rights in Iran..... (can somebody take these USI-clowns serious ? Both Trump and Netanyahu need replacement a.s.a.p. !)

https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/1.833589. Israel is banning critical groups from entering Israel. From UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to US groups like Code Pink and Jewish Voice for Peace are banned from entering Israel (even for family-visits). http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/07/548162/Israel-BDS-NGOs-boycott

The US-Saudi-Israel aliance have many things in common. Trump, Mohammed-bin-Salman (MbS) and Netanyahu all three are not very well respectable "leaders" (in fact they all three basicly are criminals).
Netanyahu can do the things he does since he is backed by the Trump"clan". Banning critics from Israel to making it easier for military courts to give the deathsentence for Palestinians, anexation of East Jerusalem and West Bank (both part of Jordan wich King must feel betrayed by the US-Trump is accepting all of Jerusalem-including the Jordan east-part-as Israeli/Jewish State. Even MbS seems to be unable to understand that Jerusalem is in Islam third holy place after Mecca and Medina-you can not make that the capitol of a Jewish State-the EU does understand that-the US is blind !) https://www.rt.com/news/415246-netanyahu-palestine-refugee-israel-threat/

DJ-The speed in wich both South Korea and Pakistan switch sides-move to Russia/China/Iran is shocking. It should be a wake-up call for the US. US foreign policy has been a disaster since the fall of the Soviet Union-or maybe even (much) earlier !

https://www.rt.com/news/415252-iran-oil-tanker-body/, http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/08/548203/China-Iran-Oil-Tanker,

A Panama-registered oil tanker, being operated by Iran, has ALLEGEDLY been "torpedoed" off the coast of China on its way to the Korean peninsula.  The tanker "Sanchi" is burning at sea; the crew is missing.

Initial reports claimed that the tanker somehow collided with another ship, on calm seas under clear skies, but RUMORS are now flying fast and furious that the ship was intentionally attacked by torpedo.

The vessel is at risk of exploding and sinking, Chinese state media reported Monday as authorities from three countries struggled to find its 32 missing crew members and contain oil spewing from the blazing wreck.

-

South Korean petrochemical company Hanwha Total Co, a 50-50 partnership between the Seoul-based Hanwha Group and French oil giant Total, said in an email to the AP it had contracted the Sanchi to import Iranian condensate to South Korea.

-
It makes no sense that such a collision took place.  But an Iranian oil tanker heading to the Korean Peninsula MAY . . . . and I emphasize MAY . . .  have had another stop in mind: North Korea.  The RUMOR MILL (unconfirmed) is that this was a message to North Korea that their oil is cut off, and a clearer message to Iran as to how they will be dealt with in the future.

NATO war on the Middle East

In 2003, the war on Iran project was already Déjà Vu. It had been on the drawing board of the Pentagon since the mid-nineties.

Since the launching of the Theater Iran Near Term (TIRANNT) war games scenario in May 2003 (leaked classified document), an escalation scenario involving military action directed against Iran and Syria had been envisaged, of which Syria was the first stage in 2011.

-

The initial invasion of Iraq under “Operation Iraqi Freedom” was launched on March 20, 2003, April 9 marks the Fall of Baghdad;  officially the invasion was completed on May 1st, 2003.

In May 2003, immediately following the invasion and occupation of Iraq, the TIRANNT (Theater Iran Near Term) war games scenario were carried out as revealed by William Arkin, a former US intelligence analyst:

“In early 2003, even as U.S. forces were on the brink of war with Iraq, the Army had already begun conducting an analysis for a full-scale war with Iran.

Barely acknowledged by the media, the US and Israel have an integrated air defense system, which was set up in early 2009, shortly after the Israel invasion of Gaza under “Operation Cast Led”.

The X-band radar air defense system set up by the US in Israel in 2009 would “integrate Israel’s missile defenses with the U.S. global missile detection network, which includes satellites, Aegis ships on the Mediterranean, Persian Gulf and Red Sea, and land-based Patriot radars and interceptors.”  (Sen. Joseph Azzolina, Protecting Israel from Iran’s missiles, Bayshore News, December 26, 2008). )

What this means is that Washington calls the shots. Confirmed by the Pentagon, the US military controls Israel’s Air Defense:

”This is and will remain a U.S. radar system,

At the outset of  Obama’s Second Term, the US and Israel initiated discussions pertaining to a “US personnel on site” presence in Israel, namely the establishment of a “permanent” and “official” military base inside Israel. And on September 17, 2017, a US Air Defense base located in the Negev desert was inaugurated. According to the Israeli IDF spokesperson, the objective is to send a “message to the region, ” including Iran, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine.

In turn, Israel signed a far-reaching military cooperation protocol with NATO in March 2005 in Jerusalem.  Under this agreement, Israel had become a de facto member of NATO. The 2005 Israel-NATO bilateral military cooperation agreement was viewed by the Israeli military as a means to “enhance Israel’s deterrence capability” against Iran, which has recently entered into an alliance of convenience with Turkey, a NATO member state.  Sounds contradictory?

It is also worth noting Israel’s longstanding membership in NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue together with six other non-NATO member states: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. Recently, these six countries have taken a stance against Israel in the wake of Trump’s decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.

We are nonetheless at a dangerous crossroads in our history. While Pentagon analysts are fully aware that the US cannot win a conventional war against Iran, a first strike tactical nuclear weapons attack is still “on the table”. So are intelligence ops, the recruitment of hired “jihadist” terrorists, the funding of insurgencies, etc. (not to mention the use of a panoply of nonconventional weapons systems including electromagnetic, chemical and biological weapons).

***

War is a criminal undertaking which is supported by the US media.

DJ-The wars in Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen , Ukraine etc are-basicly-all NATO-wars. The US$ is not backed by gold but by oil. If the dominant NATO member-the US-want to stay dominant they need to control energy.

The US is working with the EU, Israel, Gulf States (to limit it to the Middle East-oil is a global product-Russia, Indonesia, Venezuela are also major factors). Basicly NATO attacked (Middle East) countries to "grab the oil", get control of energy logistics. The present conflict between "East" and "West" is a hot war and far from over.

Trump-possible Davos speech

http://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/news/world-news/1902-trump-to-attend-world-economic-forum-in-davos-will-lay-down-the-law-to-the-world-s-elite DJ-In essence America is not great anymore due to the non-Americans. So when the US gets out of the World Trade Organization, North American Free Trade Agreement etc. Make(s) America Great Again ?WackoDead!
Insulting other countries and a global elite will worsen the US position. DJ-I do believe there are groups both inside and outside the US sabotaging Trump as president. But parts of US foreign policies are derailing that much it will do very severe damage to the US. The wrong speech may push a lot of countries and organizations (companies) to "dump the US$. http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/09/548398/Trump-to-advance-America-First-agenda-in-Davos

DJ; Both North- and South-Korea have a lot to gain from getting out of the conflict. What is making a difference now is: 1. China and Russia are making all kind of bussiness-offerings to Korea 2. The US wants less imports (also from South Korea, cars electronics etc.) 3. Both Korea's are not happy with militarization of Japan under Abe, the US-Trump rhetoric on Korea (Korea would have to pay a very high price for a US conflict with Russia and China) 4. North Korea has nuclear weapons-the only reason they will give up those weapons is when the reason for getting those weapons-US agression (in NK view)- is gone. China and Russia may be willing to warrent safety in exchange for NK steps. (https://sputniknews.com/military/201801101060635067-pentagon-sells-missiles-japan/)
Moon-Putin-Plan (MPP) http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/48549.htm DJ-In the MPP Korea would be a bridge between Russia (energy), China and Japan. The US "is not amused" with this plan.

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/48549.htm On Korea before 1950:

Let us review a few facts about crimes committed on the Korean Peninsula, not only those of the US but also those of the UN, the post-WWII institution that admittedly has often provided at least some kind of forum for states to settle their differences in a rational and just manner. On 12 December 1948 the UN General Assembly declared that the Republic of Korea (i.e., South Korea) was the only lawful government on the Peninsula. This was UN Resolution 195, and it was one of the UN’s worst moments, a gross injustice to the bulk of the population and a cause of the Korean War.

First, Resolution 195 was a violation of the UN’s own charter (most obviously Article 32) since North Korea was never invited to discuss the dispute over who was the legitimate government on the Peninsula. Second, the position of the US State Department and the UN had originally been that the government of South Korea could only have jurisdiction over those areas where the UN Commission on Korea had observed elections, which was only in some parts of the South. Third, during the elections, even at those polling places where the UN had been watching, there were rightist police and fascist, terrorist youth groups all around the polling places, just as under the Japanese colonizers. And fourth, the new president Syngman Rhee (1875–1965) was a tyrant and his government was riddled with notorious collaborators who had served the Japanese colonizers. Koreans knew they were in for a repeat—same injustice, different masters. The UN had lent the government the legitimacy it needed.

Especially in places like Cheju Island, where people had built their own self-governing committees, the rigged elections on the mainland caused tremendous anger. The residents had had a taste of undemocratic policies of the American occupation, and the unfair elections were the last straw. Only after thousands of political murders and imprisonments could an election be held on Cheju Island, one year after the mainland elections. In May 1949 an American Embassy official reported that “the all-out guerrilla extermination campaign…came to a virtual end in April with order restored and most rebels and sympathizers killed, captured, or converted.”

In the Taejon (Daejeon) Massacre from the 2nd to the 6th of July 1950, American officials stood idly by and took photos while Korean police massacred 3,000 to 7,000 political prisoners—men, boys, and women. The UN Command was known at that time for hiding the truth, and unsurprisingly, the UN Commission on Korea did nothing to investigate.

Or consider that the US Air Force (USAF)’s horrific bombing campaign in the Korean War, under the aegis of the United Nations Command, constituted genocide. Neither the United Nation’s Genocide Convention approved in 1948 and going into effect in 1951, nor the Red Cross Convention on the Protection of Civilians in Wartime of 1948 had the “slightest impact on this air war” in the words of the American historian Bruce Cumings, who has covered the history thoroughly, from all sides of the War, including the various ways in which Americans abused Koreans, both North and South, as well as about the abundant lies in North Korean government propaganda.

The Problem of Class Inequality

There has long been extreme class inequality in Korea and it is no accident that President Syngman Rhee was on the side of the ruling class. For centuries Korea had not been a society where there was a fair distribution of wealth between the “unproductive class” and the class of “cultivators,” i.e., a society where “each class enjoys its proper share of the whole annual produce,” to borrow the language of Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations. But some of those from the old aristocratic elite had been in the process of finding ways to escape parasitism and modernize their country. Just when they were starting to make progress, “global depression, war, and ever-increasing Japanese repression in the 1930s destroyed much of this progress, turned many elite Koreans into collaborators, and left few options for patriots besides armed resistance.”

The Role of Collaborators

“Extreme rightist power” is how Governor Yu Hae-jin described to the US Military Government in Korea (USAMGIK) the people who helped him suppress democracy on Cheju Island. The “leaders who would subsequently shape ROK politics” had mostly collaborated with the agents of the Empire of Japan. (ROK = Republic of Korea). Those leaders were selected by one Col. Cecil Nist, who viewed them as “conservatives.” To give this group of mostly treacherous, non-patriots some credibility, the US Office of Strategic Services selected Syngman Rhee to give this group a veneer of legitimacy. A fluent speaker of English and a Christian convert, he had received years of indoctrination in higher education in the US, and although he had made efforts on behalf of Korean independence in his younger years, he was Washington’s man.

In contrast to WWII, where American soldiers and soldiers of most of the other UN Command states had fought against fascists, the war in Korea saw the US and UN using “extreme rightist power,” to fight against democracy. The Korean campaign represented a bizarre “vision of bringing freedom and liberty to a sordid dictatorship run by servants of Japanese imperialism.”

While it is true that the US has dominated the UN since its inception, especially during the Korean War, and while the UN Command forces were actually under the command of US generals, the UN Command also shares some of the responsibility for the many atrocities committed against Koreans. Can anyone really argue they have no responsibility to speak the truth about their conduct during the War? Rhee once described to an American reporter what he planned to do: “With bulldozers we will dig huge excavations and trenches, and fill them with Communists. Then cover them over.” Ironically, the UN appears comfortable with performing a similar act on its own past.

Korea (or better US against the world)

US

https://www.rt.com/usa/415449-new-us-nuclear-doctrine/ The US claims to have the right to react with nuclear weapons on a conventional attack-also "smaller battlefield nukes". (DJ-With this kind of policy-how can the US claim North Korea is doing something illegal ?)

Other US against the world:

US against Assad (and Russia, China, Turkey, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc):

While the U.S. seems to have given up on regime change in Syria it is still trying to sabotage the progress of the Syrian government and its allies.

The recent drone attack on the Russian base Khmeimim in Latakia is just one example. Thirteen sophisticated armed drones with a reach of some 100 kilometers attacked the base at the same time as a U.S. electronic warfare plane was circling off the Syrian coast. The attack was unsuccessful. Russia has sophisticated electronic warfare means and hijacked the command over six of the drones. The other seven were taken down by Russian air defenses.

To claim, as the U.S. does, that ISIS or some "rebels" did this is nonsense. ISIS has made short range weaponized drones flown by remote control in line of sight mode. This attack was by autonomous drones using GPS and barometric sensors to find their way to their targets. This is qualitatively on a whole new level. I doubt that Russia will let this go unanswered. Look out for some "mishap" that may soon hit some U.S. troops or interests abroad.

-

Syria has shown that it has the will and ability to resist U.S. "regime change". The military and its allies will continue to consolidate the current positions. But to free all of its northern parts from Turkish and U.S. occupation is too big of a task for the still small army. This can be more easily achieved by local insurgencies. Syria has battle hardened militia outside of its regular military. These have been trained by and fought with Hizbullah. They can be infiltrated into the occupation zones and make the situation unbearable for the occupiers. Syrian interests in these areas far outweigh those of the occupying countries. While it will take time there is little doubt that -in the end- the people of Syria will win this fight and liberate their country.

DJ-From the comments:

-For as much as I would love to see the US leave Syria (and other occupied territories)

it seems that given an inexhaustible supply of dollars and volunteers for its meat grinder
this is not going to happen anytime soon.

As can be construed from RT's recent article, the new Trump doctrine authorizes
nuclear responses to conventional attacks.

"One of the key changes to the US policy would be an expansion of circumstances
in which a nuclear attack would be considered.
Under the new NPR, a conventional attack that causes mass casualties or targets critical
infrastructure may trigger a nuclear retaliation from the US."

Which means that there will be disproportionate responses to regular attacks. It seems
the US is learning from Israel.

Therefore, I am pessimistic when it comes to withdrawal from Syria, unless the Bear
gets tired of being poked and starts using some of its muscle.

So the attack on the Kmeimin base was being monitored by a U.S. Poseidon spy craft
in a swarm assault experiment. The Russians were aware of its unauthorized presence.
Why didn't they shoot it?

-ZeroHedge quoting the Pentagon statement: "The Pentagon countered that while the US was “concerned” over the incident, Pentagon spokesman Maj. Adrian Rankin-Galloway, however, claimed that “those devices and technologies can easily be obtained in the open market.” He later also told Sputnik that the US already saw what it called “this type of commercial UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] technology” being used in Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) missions."

Interesting. How does HE know what technologies were used in the drones? Sounds like the US protest was a Freudian slip. And quite the coincidence that the operation was being monitored by a Poseidon. Was a warning radioed to the Russians that what appeared to be a swarm of drones was detected incoming? The attacks by various mediums over the last few days on the Russian airbase clearly shows defenses are being tested, and apparently tested in some scientific detail by having spy plane monitors. May be for planning of future attacks, may be because the US has determined it is losing and wants to gain as much intel as possible now, in case they have to bug out soon and lose the ability to test current tech Russian defenses. Where else in the world could they do so without starting a top-level conflict? One wonders if the drones were all configured differently, in an attempt to pin down up to what level of shielding Russian tech could take over a drone, and beyond which they would have to be shot down?

-The principal US objective, using ISIS, YPG and others, has been to break the "Shia crescent" from Tehran to Beirut, which the US stupidly created with its Operation Iraqi Freedom. That is a failure even with the US/YPG in eastern Syria, as seen here

So chalk up another military failure for the Pentagon and its clueless generals.

-I'm not surprised by the use of drones by the US. IMO Syria is THE testbed for new military technology, as the US can probe the efficacy of Russian S-400 systems. It was just a matter of time before swarming technologies were being tested in combat.

As stated in other news sources, the attack would require a sophisticated control center to manage the attack, which would explain the presence of a US spy plane lurking nearby.

The strategy of launching said drones from Turkish controlled areas adds the additional benefit of attempting to drive a wedge between the Turks and Russians.

The downside of testing this new technology is that the result will be escalatory with a green light given to the Russians to test their drone technology on American assets. This is after all a war, cold to hot, irrespective to what the diplomats may say.

-IMO the entire affair is particularly tragic, as the constant drought besetting the entire Middle East for the last 5 to 9 years is just a prelude to the climatic challenges awaiting us all. The the situation will become all the more grim as water becomes more scarce, and temperatures soar, due to a runaway climate beginning to rear its ugly head with the melting of the Arctic. While the US lost half of its wheat crop in a matter of weeks to a flash drought last summer, Russia has become the largest exporter of wheat, due to our 2014 sanctions. I wonder what the West will do when it starts getting hungry and it has alienated a possibly great food supplier.

DJ-Nobody realy believes the US did not attack Russian bases in Syria. Also on Korea the US agression and sabotage of a peace proces (Moon-Putin-Plan) is becoming unacceptable for most countries. Supporting nazi's in the Ukraine, sending weapons to Taiwan, calling all of Jerusalem capitol of Israel is "bizar"!

This is becoming unacceptable-at the end-proberbly for most countries. The EU does not want more refugees-from more regime change. South Korea rather talks with the North than being used for re-armament of Japan. The US/NATO did bring chaos to Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Ukraine-who will be next ?

Syria

DJ-I do not agree with the http://www.moonofalabama.org/2018/01/syria-erdogan-again-switches-sides-delivers-new-supplies-for-terrorist-attacks.html#. Erdogan does not have the room to switch sides any longer. The US would like to see Turkey moving away from R.I.C. Russia, Iran, China. Erdogan still claims the US does want regime-change in Ankara-Turkey. The US is backing Kurds in Syria https://www.rt.com/news/415663-us-occupied-syria-refugees/. No way Turkey will switch sides-but Turkey goes for Turkish (and Erdogans) interests in "the region".

If Turkey ended up giving support to US backed jihadi's several things to consider:
1-Turkey does support rebels who fight Kurds/YPG
2-Rebels sometime are able to steal/bribe to get Turkish army goods
3-"Others"  (USI-US-Saudi-Israel) are willing to create the image that Turkey is fighting against Russians/Syrians (to break the TRIC-Turkey-Russia-Iran-China link)
4-(Also in the comments) Erdogan may be trying to get rid of (Uyghur a.o.) fighters that got in Syria via Turkey (with Turkish papers, support etc. Turkey was on the anti-Assad side, still not happy with Assad-but the Kurds are a major risk for Turkey, cooperation with Russia, Iran, China is also more important than being against Assad).

DJ-US-Turkey relations only getting worse.

Iran

DJ-If Trump is that stupid he ends the JCPOA-Iran Agreement-or comes with such extreme conditions-it will damage the US even further. The EU has made its point very clear-also with the FMś from the UK, France, Germany-they support the Iran-deal. DJ-NATO may further desintegrate-a EU/Turkey(and Canada) section willing to work with Russia-and the US (with Israel as a semi-NATO country, some Gulf States). Further escalations (in Syria, Pakistan, Iran) will speed up that proces. http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/12/548673/Italy-signs-EUs-biggest-ever-credit-deal-with-Iran

Syria

The CIA's Morell said the following in a televised Charlie Rose interview at that time:

Morell: We need to make the Iranians pay the price in Syria; we need to make the Russians pay the price.

Rose: We make them pay the price by killing Russians and killing Iranians?

Morell: Yes. Covertly. You don't tell the world about it. You don't stand at the Pentagon and say we did this. But you make sure they know it in Moscow and Tehran. I want to go after those things that Assad sees as his personal power base. I want to scare Assad. I want to go after his presidential car. I want to bomb his offices in the middle of the night. I want to destroy his presidential aircraft. I want to destroy his presidential helicopters. I want to make him think we are coming after him.

With such brazen and public past admissions by US intelligence officials it is clear that no scenario should be taken off the table regarding what happened with these recent technologically advanced attacks on Russian assets in Syria. This could indeed very likely be the United States or a regional state actor making Russians "pay the price" for being there.

http://www.voltairenet.org/article199364.html and http://www.voltairenet.org/article199339.html :

During the attack, which was carried out using un-identified drones, four U.S. Navy drones for observation followed the reactions of the Russian defense.

-

Studying the drones captured has allowed us to establish the following: that these engines, which have a flight capacity of around 100 kilometres, were travelling at around 50 km/hr and their coordination by satellite was by analogous signals not digital signals. They were transporting shells of artisanal construction meant to destroy the ships in the harbour and the planes stationed at the air base.

So what we have here is very simple equipment, which has already been used on the battlefield, both in Iraq and Syria. The novelty flows from its coordinated use by satellite.

-

According to the Russian daily newspaper Kommersant, the most likely hypothesis is that these drones were armed by the jihadist group Ahrar al-Sham.

Ahrar al-Sham was established by the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood before the war against Syria. It includes in its ranks several of Osama Bin Laden’s companions. Its “Foreign Minister”, Labib al-Nahhas, is one of the British MI6 officers. At the end of 2016, Ahrar al-Sham signed an agreement with Russia recognizing the “de-escalation zones”; an agreement which it has clearly not respected.

The spokesperson for the Pentagon, Adrian Rankin-Galloway, declared to RIA Novosti that the drones used to attack the Russian military installations in Syria were “easily accessible” on the market. However, the Russian Minister of Defence assured that these drones had been put together by specialists on Syrian soil and, in particular, that they had been coordinated by satellite.

Furthermore, the Pentagon acknowledged that it had used for the first time its Global Hawks reconnaissance drones on the boundary line of Donbass, on 1 and 7 January which is in fact the day after the two attacks against the Russian military installations in Syria.

This technology failed on the Syrian battlefield against the Russian army, which is equipped with the most powerful anti-air weapons in the world (Pantsir-S1) and the means of radio electronic war, capable of bringing Nato commands to a grinding halt. Yet in a different environment, this technology could conquer.

According to the Russian daily newspaper Izvestia, the Russian Defense Minister and the FSB are studying the creation of special units for fighting the drones. The Russian Armed Forces have already been equipped with a specialist unit in defending fixed targets, which could be attacked by the drones, or with the use of simple rockets, cruise missiles, systems of precision weapons, tactical planes and helicopters for attack.

So the technology and necessary means to coordinate an attack by a group of drones has been transferred to a terrorist group. This means that even if the Anglo Saxons preserve coordination via satellite, they nonetheless announce a radical change in the Security and Defence.

DJ, Of course there is a link with https://southfront.org/syrian-war-report-january-12-2018-militants-counter-attack-in-southern-idlib-ends-in-disaster/ The claim that Turkey supported rebels in an offensive against the Assad forces is most likely meant to seperate Turkey from Russia and Iran.

https://www.almasdarnews.com/article/top-5-cases-militants-obtaining-weapons-made-states-us-led-coalition/ DJ-The US will not give up control over Middle East oil and gas.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-12/chinas-official-military-newspaper-warns-war-not-far-us It is all about the energy-dollar link-without it the US may get in deep problems.

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-12-30/eric-zuesse-america%E2%80%99s-secret-planned-conquest-russia DJ-Over a year old article. Mutual Assured Destruction https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_assured_destruction "MAD" is replaced by:

https://www.rt.com/usa/415774-trump-boost-usable-nuclear-weapons/ and https://www.rt.com/usa/415783-nuclear-warheads-rip-off/ With Iran and North Korea as an excuse the US is preparing for war against Russia and China.

Iran

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/13/548737/Iran-nuclear-deal-Trump Trump hopes the EU-(some) European countries are willing to reopen negotiations on the Iran-deal. This is unlikely-the US has to accept the Iran-deal the way it is. http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2017/12/12/545412/eu-jcpoa-iran-mogherini and https://sputniknews.com/europe/201801131060722095-eu-committed-iran-deal-trump/

Pakistan

Turkey/Syria

Turkistan Islamic Party using Turkish Army vehicles (Turkey has to explain this to Iran and Russia)

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2018/01/12/548707/Russian-military-eliminates-militants-behind-Syria-air-base-attack  DJ:"foreign sponsored Takfire terrorists" includes almost all anti-Assad fighting groups in Syria. Russia will deal with those behind the drone attack the same way. https://www.debka.com/mivzak/rebel-group-launched-drone-attacks-russian-bases-destroyed/ The depot was destroyed-so the hunt for the people behind it is still open.
http://thesaker.is/the-us-kurd-project-iranian-intelligence-has-declassified-data-on-14-american-bases-in-syria/ (some bases also UK, French forces and SDF) and http://www.voltairenet.org/article199350.html DJ; Is "the west" planning a "Kurdish homeland" in east Syria were Turkey can deport Turkish Kurds ? Is the Turkish agenda taking over control in parts of the Middle East (with Turkish bases in Qatar, Djibouti, Sudan-Turkey occupying North Cyprus, North Syria, Northern part of Iraq). Turkish-Qatar support for jihadi's (against Kurds-for Turkish interests-at the end maybe even against Assad, Iran, Russia ? Playing a double game-hoping to get away with it-so to do deals both with Russia-Iran-China AND the "west"?)

Saudi-US backed genocide in Yemen

Syria

https://www.debka.com/four-players-jockeying-post-war-positions-syria-us-israel-vs-russia-iran/ Israel and the US worked together in latest airstrikes against Iran near Damascus. Israel may also (with US support) attack Russian positions in Syria. The US stays in Syria to control Iran.

Mexico

Afghanistan

The US is against the New Silk Road-so conflicts with China, Pakistan, Iran, Russia (Turkey-how does the US think to supply NATO/US forces when all of the region wants the US out (and other NATO members stop their presence in Afghanistan https://www.rt.com/op-edge/415739-trump-may-us-uk-visit/).
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-01-12/real-news-we-ignore-our-peril Some people getting rich from "aid for Afghanistan"-corruption is the norm.
