CRS, DrPH I agree with you on the Kurds. There are many reasons why this largest nation without a homeland has not their own country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kurds

The  30-32 milion Kurds do not have one religion, live in an oil rich area and always manage to disagree within themselves. It is difficult to give a definition of "a Kurd"; defining borders of Kurdistan is as good as impossible.

There is a joke about some other groups-two persons would bring three political parties. The Kurds are very vulnarable for the divide-and-rule tactics. Most of the Kurds live in eastern Turkey (22 milion) but due to the cold war "the west"supported for decennia repression of the Kurds by the Turkish government. Kurds in Iraq and Iran also were repressed for decades by their governments. Turkey and Iran agree on their anti-Kurdish line. Turkey is in Syria and Iraq to fight against the Kurds.

The countries in the middle east are the results of western foreign policy after the break-up of the Ottoman Empire after World War 1.

The Kurds are testimony of how cynical international diplomacy works for centuries.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-07/seismic-shift-mid-east-regional-power-saudis-halt-egypt-oil-supplies-cairo-turns-ira and http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-07/saudi-iranian-fallout-could-destroy-opec-deal Saudi Arabia needs oil to be able to fight its wars in Yemen and by proxy in Syria, Iraq, Bahrein, North/West Africa. With US arms Saudi Arabia is the main sponsor for IS.

Now Russia, Iran, and Egypt could go after Saudi oil-production to bring down the corrupt house of Saud and stop KSA from supporting US backed "rebels/terrorists" all around the globe.

http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/18762/The-%E2%80%9CRaqqa-Campaign%E2%80%9D-that-never-was-and-slow-moving-Mosul-offensive The US is supporting a mainly Kurdish Army in Syria in its offensive against Raqqa. Turkey has been supporting IS to fight the Kurds both in Syria and Iraq and is getting ready to intervene against the Kurdish armies getting close to Turkish positions in both countries. Since Iran is not a friend of the Kurds, Moscow is willing to "pay a price" for Turkish support, it looks like the Kurds are allowed to deal with IS and as a "reward" the Kurds will have to fight with the Turkish army (still a NATO member but could end up fighting US (and Canadian, UK http://www.voltairenet.org/article193988.html, Frenchhttp://www.voltairenet.org/article193865.html) special forces in the Kurdish armies.) http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/18765/US-Turkey-at-sharp-odds-on-Kurds%E2%80%99-role-against-ISIS-in-Iraq-Syria see also https://southfront.org/admiral-kuznetsov-battlegroup-to-start-active-phase-of-operation-in-syria-in-coming-days-reports/ and https://southfront.org/russian-su-33-from-admiral-kuznetsovs-deck-spotted-over-syrian-tartus/

In Eastern Ukraine I (DJ) would not be surprised when a large Ukraine/pro-Kiev offensive with NATO support would start. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-07/nato-places-300000-troops-high-alert-readiness-confrontation-russia When Russia starts it final offensive against eastern Aleppo (also using Northern/Baltic fleet) will that start a Kiev-offensive against "the pro-Russia-rebels"/Russia ?

https://southfront.org/16-us-servicemen-killed-27-wounded-during-mosul-offensive-reports/. I (DJ) know that some ATF-members may have family in that region, I hope they stay safe and healthy.

Via NATO the US dominates EU policy towards China. http://www.voltairenet.org/article193913.html

If Clinton had won the  US elections the US-Russia relations proberbly would not get better and a US-global agenda (with TTIP etc) would still be a main US goal. Trump wants to talk with Putin, Putin was the first foreign leader to congratulate Trump with his elections. (Russian diplomats may have had meetings with both the Clinton and Trump-campain team to find out what to expect.) Trump seems to be more pro-Israel, under Obama the relations between Israel and the US did get "cold", Netanyahu and Putin became "better friends". Trump would also like to go for a hard-line towards Iran, not backed by the EU.

https://southfront.org/video-footage-of-houthi-forces-destroying-saudi-army-base/ Iran, Russia, China are involved in the Yemen war. KSA needs US weapons to fight that war, but oil-prices may drop further giving KSA less money to pay for those weapons (and the mercenaries that are doing a lot of the fighting).

A Shi-ite uprising in Bahrein was repressed by Saudi forces, another Shi-ite uprising in the north-east of Saudi Arabia is also put down violently by the wahabist regime. I expect that both regions N.E.KSA and Bahrein) can expect Iranian (and Russian, Egyptian) support to further weaken the (US/west backed, IS funding) Riyad regime.  Maybe "terrorists" start blowing up oil-installations in the region, others may find the idea of organizing their proxy army interesting.

Russia is about to start large scale bombing/missiles-attacks on (moderate) rebels in Syria. The goal proberbly is to break the backbone of IS and other "rebelgroups", destroying concentrations and logistics.

Turkey may be allowed to play a small role in Syria and Iraq when Turkey is willing to pay a price to Russia and Iran. Both countries would like to be able to use Turkish ports, Russia proberbly would love to have airbases in Turkey. On the other hand Sunni/Turkman, Kurdish minorities need some safety.

Egypt has had enough of the Saudi-oil blackmail and did choose to do bussiness with Iran. Russia may provide aid in fighting IS, Egyptian soldiers are getting "practice" in Syria. Egypt wants the Libyan neighbour not to be a terrorist base-China wants Libyan oil-Russia has the means to "bring peace to that region". (And that region spans northern Africa from Nigeria to Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Cameroon, Niger, Mali etc.)

Russia is the largest oil/gas producer, China the largest consumer. Wars most of the times are energy related. With President Trump going for more isolationism Russia and China are preparing their plans.

Iran may open navy-bases in Syria and Iran http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-26/after-warning-us-retaliation-iran-plans-russian-fighter-jet-purchase-naval-bases-syr (Also mentions Iran-navy friendly visit to South Africa)

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-22/major-foreign-policy-shift-turkey-abandoning-eu-sco Turkey may join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization-wich is slowley moving into a new-much larger "Warsaw Pact" and could include Russia, China, Iran, Philipines, Viet Nam, Syria, Egypt etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Cooperation_Organisation (India and Pakistan will become members in 2017-China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan are already members. Iran, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka are considering membership. )

The US fails to understand that there is a strong movement for pan-Asian coopereation and trade with Europe and Africa. The outcome of the US-wars in the middle east and S.E. Asia is that the US is not welcome any longer in Asia.

http://www.debka.com/article/25802/Egyptian-pilots-flying-Russian-choppers-in-Syria Egypt fighting US backed terrorists in Syria with Russian helicopters. It will be just a matter of time before Russia starts intervening in Libya (after the chaos the NATO murder on Gadaffi left behind).

https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/2559 Allthough I oppose the language used in the article; some politicians in the US still want war with Russia.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-24/all-aboard-post-tpp-world  (RCEP-China led, replacing US-led TPP, Japan, Chili, Argentina member, Brazil to follow, Mexico-pushed by Trump ?) and http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-25/oil-slides-saudis-refuse-attend-non-opec-producers-meeting (Suadi Arabia is losing the oil-war. There is regimechange underway for the wahabist IS funding corrupt criminal US friends in the Arab peninsula.) also signs of a global shift of power. Uncertainty over US leadership only will make Putin stronger.

The US Clinton-Obama foreign policy has been even a bigger disaster-for the US-than the war crimes of Bush (and Blair, some other European "leaders").

http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/19073/Arab-media-Israel-attacks-Syrian-Hizballah-targets-near-Damascus and update [url]http://www.debka.com/article/25806/Israel-jets-mark-go-it-alone-policy-on-Syria[url] According to Debka around november 21 there was a sort of agreement between the US(Trump)-Russia-Israel, Turkey on a sort of safe zone near the Golan-heights for "rebels". Russia did attack those "rebels" killing a large number of them Nov.27. In reaction Israel makes clear it does not want Iran/Hezbollah getting close to the Golan heights. Earlier Turkey shelled Syrian Arab Army in Latakia from inside Turkey during the SAA attack on Turkman "rebels". Turkey wants to fight the Kurdish groups in Syria and Iraq, protect Turkish and Sunni minorities against Shiïtes.)

http://www.debka.com/article/25804/New-Putin-move-to-win-a-military-base-in-Libya An East-Lybia general invites Russia to open up a base in Benghazi for Russian navy/air force. The (US-born) Lybian general is working with Egypt and UAE. Putin will welcome this invitation to open a base in Northern Africa-700 km from Europe.

Turkish forces north of Aleppo were stopped by Syria last week. Israel is attacking (mostly) Hezbollah transports from Lebanon to Damascus. The "rebels" in Eastern Aleppo are collapsing eventhough the end of the Aleppo battle most likely will not be the end of the "War for Syria".

http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/19090/Russian-air-force-to-resume-operations-from-Iran-s-Hamadan-airbase With the Iran airbase open for Russia the Russian aircraftcarrier may move towards Libya/Benghazi.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-11-30/second-look-opec-deal-heres-what-can-go-wrong Oil-prices are effecting the possibility to fight wars. Russia, Iran, Libya, Venezuela, Equador "are not friends of the US or Saudi Arabia" and oil-prices are a major weapon. For the US shale-oil fracking mostly is profitible (without taking earthquakes into account) at above a 100 US $.

The last days of Obama in the White House could http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/19100/In-televised-overture-to-Trump-Putin-calls-for-cooperation-in-war-on-terror still bring danger. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-12-01/battle-aleppo-over-now-real-war-has-begun. https://www.rt.com/news/368962-wasp-warships-navy-mediterranean/ Two US war ships, 4000 US troops on their way to the Middle East ?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YK5pvu-_R4 Are Ukraine and Turkey leading the way for a major escalation both in Syria and Ukraine ?

Foreign special services preparing massive cyberattacks on Russian banks – FSB

Foreign special services are preparing to carry out massive cyberattacks starting from December 5 aimed at destabilizing Russia’s financial system, the Federal Security Service said on Friday. The goal of the cyberattacks is also to destroy the activity of “a range of major Russian banks,” TASS reports. The servers and command centers for carrying out these cyberattacks are located in the Netherlands and are owned by Ukrainian hosting company BlazingFast, according to the statement. The cyberattacks are expected to be accompanied by mass SMS and provocative publications in social networks or blogs about “a crisis in the Russian credit and financial system, bankruptcy and withdrawal of licenses of leading federal and regional banks,” it added.

https://www.rt.com/news/370113-iran-turkey-secret-talks-syria/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv0fJquJPoE&feature=youtu.be

In the Russian view the US is behind the Palmyra-IS offensive. There are claims that IS did move fighters from Iraq to eastern Syria. With the "claim/propaganda" that Russia got Trump elected in the US elections the situation may get worse if clinton would become the next US president.

Trump-via Exxon-already made oil deals with Putin. Clinton keeps supporting the Saudi oil-interests.

Main stream-media keep spreading fake-news about civil wars in Syria (Iraq, Libya etc) while there is a battle between oil-interests-groups. http://www.veteranstoday.com/2016/12/11/systematic-neo-colonisation-of-muslim-world/. Religion always was a good instrument to divide and rule.

Turkey may be on its way to go to a large scale invasion of Syria and Iraq for the protection of Turkmen-minorities, fight terrorgroups (Kurds) and end the rule of Assad. Israel has been very active with land-land, air-land missiles (from aircraft in Lebanese airspace; Russia is covering most of the middle east with anti-aircraft defenses). "Incidents" (false flag) may provide Jordan and Gulf States to "fight terrorism" in Syria and Iraq-backed by US anti-aircraft systems.

At that moment you can wait who starts shooting down planes, missiles, drones etc. first-a full scale escalation. Egypt is getting more and more involved in Syria-on the Assad/Russia/Iran side.

President Trump (if he ends up becoming president) already has made US-China relations "problematic". China may end up fighting IS in Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan, Libya, Philipines etc. and is already very active in tradedeals in Latin America.

The Obama-presidency is in its last month. There are groups that may want to create a situation that the new president has to fight wars he (Trump) did not want to start.

http://www.debka.com/newsupdatepopup/19306/US-Democrats-step-up-campaign-to-discredit-Trump-election-win clinton and the "groups surrounding her" are willing to start a world war 3 to avoid trump getting the next US president ? Both trump and clinton belong in a mad-house-are a danger to the world. Trumps plans for war with China, moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, reopen the conflict with Iran, put at least 4 generals in his administration (while politics have to control the generals and oil-companies Trump is handing them the power.)

Also in Europe politics failed and give rise to insane populists "politicians". Here in the Netherland we have a trump-like-"politician" (even though this man always was in "politics") Geert Wilders with his Party For Freedom (in Dutch PVV). He is the only party-member, how the party is financed is a secret. Wilders once told that he was working for the Mossad, he once was in an Israeli kibuts. The pvv is very pro-Israel/anti-islam. For a lot of problems they do not have answers.

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2016/12/17/breaking-syrian-special-forces-captured-14-us-coalition-officers-captured-in-aleppo/ (22 US, 16 UK, 21 French, 7 Israeli and 62 Turkish military were "found" in Eastern Aleppo-and there are several other reports as well-this group was allowed to move to the "rebel"(/NATO) held area of Syria and http://www.veteranstoday.com/2016/12/17/turkish-convoys-loaded-with-tow-and-manpad-missiles-waiting-to-equip-terrorists-in-syria/ the NATO-Gulf States war against Iran, Russia, etc goes on. The west stopped calling IS terrorists; they are now all "friends of the west rebels".  In Russian and Iranian view they are not fighting IS any longer, they are at war with the west. Insanity rules.

Lots of questions on the Tu-154 crash with on board the former red army choir, a "Dr Liza" and a general and 5 colonels on their way to Syria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY0IZULoxak and http://www.veteranstoday.com/2016/12/25/did-israel-down-a-russian-jet-over-unsc-smackdown/ http://www.debka.com/article/25858/Plane-crash-ups-Syria-tied-Russian-deaths-to-310

The Black Sea-region has turned into a "secret war zone" the last years. Unmarked planes were bombing in eastern Ukraine from NATO-bases in Romania and Bulgaria. Russia may have been testing new electronic weapons on US ships in the Black Sea. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Donald_Cook

NATO wants to spread its influence eastward-via Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbedjan to Pakistan (and the war in Afghanistan) with support of some Arab states (Jordan, Gulf States) and Israel. The goal would be the control of global energy (and with that remaining the energy-backing of the US $).

After Iraq, Libya, Syria was next on the western list. Iran, Russia also could be on that list. China-looking for energy in a.o. the South China Sea (and solar/wind power)-wants to be able to have a choice in were to get her energy from and in the currency it wants to pay for it.

http://www.moonofalabama.org/2016/12/syria-roundup-turkeys-problems-increase.html#more Russia is giving air support for the Turkish offensive against IS in northern Syria. (The US refuses to give air support but has been sending anti-tank weapons to "moderate rebels"-IS is using those weapons against Turkish tanks)
In an earlier post http://www.moonofalabama.org/2016/12/how-the-military-excluded-the-us-from-international-syria-negotiations.html#comments it gets clear that Obama is not in control of the US intervention in Syria-and the CIA and pentagon are fighting each other. Russia has decided that it is wiser to talk with Iran and Turkey (leave the NATO out) about peace in the middle east.

http://www.mintpressnews.com/leaked-audio-reveals-us-was-aware-of-isis-threat-sought-regime-change-in-syria/223848/ The US goal in Syria/Iraq is to create a sunni Islamic State in eastern Syria/western Iraq. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv7TWC1NX3o).

A new US administration has to find new ways to get itself out of the largest western foreign policy disaster in decades. http://www.veteranstoday.com/2017/01/05/turkey-leaving-nato-asserts-right-to-close-key-base-for-coalition/ Turkey leaving NATO, http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-01-06/friends-long-live-duterte-tells-russian-navy-hopes-moscow-will-become-ally-and-prote Russia and China "improving relations" with the Philipines was unthinkeble till recent. (Is Russia going to help Duterte in his fight with western/gulf states backed IS muslim-fighters in the southern Philipines ? Has "the west"been supporting several wars in third world countries for their own interests-giving aid in a "war-on-terror" in wich the west sits at both sides-supporting "rebels" and government ? see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine%E2%80%93American_War on how the US became "such a friend of the Philipines".)

The US claim of Russia being involved in clinton losing the election is an insult to any intelligent being. http://www.moonofalabama.org/2017/01/new-intelligence-report-adds-no-evidence-of-russian-hacking.html#more and is damaging EU-US relations further. The US did hack, interfer etc. in the EU for decades, even hacked the phone of Angela Merkel https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jul/08/nsa-tapped-german-chancellery-decades-wikileaks-claims-merkel. Most west european intelligence agences are under US control. (The US is black mailing European governments with certain information-especialy on royals and their nazi-ties.)

For the EU the new US administration has to show how economic trade, foreign policy cooperation etc. will work out. Protectionism could show up at both sides of the Atlantic with elections in France, Netherlands, Germany etc. this year and "new groups" very critical of "old ways".

not war with Russia
but regime change ?

The coming famine: Russia, peak oil and the collapse of cheap food
http://peakoil.com/consumption/the-coming-famine-russia-peak-oil-and-the-collapse-of-cheap-food

it will be interesting to see what Trumps position on Russia turns out to be
once the spooks fill him in on peak oil and all of its unpleasant implications

"This is the “end game”. This is the future. There can be no other reason the United States is willing to risk war with Russia. Oil is always the reason the United States goes to war since the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo showed us how vulnerable we really are. But this time, we’ve got a “false prosperity” and millions of people born solely because of the cheap food brought to us by cheap oil. When that oil is gone, guess what? We will not be able to feed all those people born because cheap oil made feeding them possible. You do the math on what that means."

"Higgins: It's simple economics. Today it's oil, right? In ten or fifteen years, food. Plutonium. Maybe even sooner. Now, what do you think the people are gonna want us to do then?
Joe Turner: Ask them?
Higgins: Not now - then! Ask 'em when they're running out. Ask 'em when there's no heat in their homes and they're cold. Ask 'em when their engines stop. Ask 'em when people who have never known hunger start going hungry. You wanna know something? They won't want us to ask 'em. They'll just want us to get it for 'em!"

I did not, thanks!  I'm part Dutch on my grandmother's side - her grandfather was named Lindelse (I think I'm spelling it correctly), yours is a remarkable land with amazing history!

I'm still amazed that after the loss of your countrymen in the downed flight MH17, nothing has been done to hold the Russians accountable.

This Trump will be a disaster....I fully expect that, within 24-48 hours of his being officially President, we'll see (a) Russia invade Ukraine, Latvia or other, (b) China invade Taiwan, and/or (c) North Korea do something stupid as a provocation.

If so, I don't think it will end well for anyone.

Be safe, my friend.

On the MH17 flight there is a lot of suspicion on the official story. Not that many people believe "Putin did it". There was a referendum on an Ukraine-EU treaty in wich a majority in the Netherlands voted against that treaty.

The rift between politicians and the public is not only a US thing, it is also a European problem.

Here we may have Geert Wilders https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geert_Wilders as our Trump. But alternatives also lost credebility-just like in the US.

Putin (he must have known Angela Merkel when she was a student in East Berlin) is a carefull chess-player. If there is any agression before january 20 it may come from the Obama/old elite. But not that many military are waiting for a war with Russia (that nobody will win).

Stay safe ! (By the way "Linders" is quite common in the Netherlands)

The Obama-administration did claim that everything that went wrong was to blame on Putin. The Trump-administration wants us to start blaming everything that goes wrong on China....

The mass-media first criminalized Muslims, then Russia and soon will start blaming China. Trump also has problems with Muslims, Mexicans, everyone who disagrees with him...the outcome is that North Korea gets more protection from China. The https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China%E2%80%93Pakistan_Economic_Corridor Chinese are getting port-facilities in Pakistan/Indian Ocean. The Trans Pacific Partnership could see China replacing the US. i would not be surprised when China starts investing in Mexico, buying Mexican oil and products Trump does not want in the US.

https://www.superstation95.com/index.php/world/3058

Beijing has deployed advanced Dongfeng-41 ICBMs in Heilongjiang Province, in the far northeastern region of China which borders Russia, according to reports based on images, possibly leaked to coincide with Donald Trump’s inauguration as US president.  Because of the long travel of an ICBM, these weapons would not be a threat to most of Russia, but Pentagon Sources tell SuperStation95 they are most definitely capable of striking "anywhere in the United States."

Each missile travels at Mach 25 which is 19,000 miles per hour.  Each missile carries TEN nuclear warheads which can target separate cities; so one missile launch can destroy TEN different American cities!

China has already moved two entire Brigades to their northeastern-most province. China only maintains six rocket brigades for their whole country, with a total of about 100,000 service members to maintain and operate them.

The fact that two full brigades have been sent to northeast China, means upwards of 30,000 service members and perhaps twenty of these missiles have been moved.  Twenty missiles means 200 warheads . . . destroying 200 American targets!

From a Zero Hedge reaction: If he was the only dead russian top diplomat then yes. However ....

Russian ambassador Andrei Karlov murdered in Turkey by gunshot from an off-duty turkish policeman, December 19, 2016, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrei_Karlov#Assassination

Andrey Malanin, top consul in the russian embassy in Athens unexpectedly found dead in his Athens apt. Jan 6, 2017, http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-38560438

Alexander Kadakin, russian ambassador to India and a critically important one to possibly avoid war betwen Pakistan and India, unexpectedly died from a heart attack without previous signs of cardiac problems on the 26th of January.  Russia has started it´s own investigation of his death http://www.dnd.com.pk/russia-probing-death-of-ambassador-alexander-kadak...

UN russian ambassador Vitaly Churkin, USA, dies suddenly and unexpectedly from heart problems, February 20, 2017

According to media heart attack was the reason for both mr Churkin and mr Kadakin. For mr Malani the reason of death in his case is "natural causes" according to greek police.

All deaths within a 2 month period.  IMHO it is clear that Trump is no peace messenger. Either he is a powerless clown or he is in alliance with the murderers. And another thing: This sequence of killings should mean we have a major war coming soon. My guess is that it starts with India and Pakistan. They have been shooting on eachother with artillery for several months now and there are no signs of reconciliation between them .

A lot of air-activity above Syria last night, https://www.rt.com/news/381144-syria-airstrike-usa-russia/. The US tried to attack al-quada in the Aleppo/Idlib region. http://www.debka.com/article/25971/Israeli-air-strikes-in-Syria-Reprisal-threatened Israel-via Lebanon-hit several targets inside Syria. Both the US and Israel are not welcomed by Syria/Assad. Reports of a shot down plane may be Syrian propaganda. Syria, Russia also active in the Syrian skies. (Proberbly also Turkey attacking US-backed Kurdish positions in northern Syria ?)

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-39297031 When North Korea expects the US to attack their country they will strike first and hard. The US should not act without communication with China. A US attack on North Korea as a surprise for China will be seen as an attack on China and dealt with accordingly.

We may be moving into a crisis far worse than the 1962 Cuba-Crisis-with chances of things getting out of control very fast-but the main news seem to miss the urgency.

North Korea is preparing both nuclear test and missile-test. http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/n-korea-preparing-for-biggest-nuclear-test This is unacceptable for the US-Japan, South Korea but also for Russia and China. But when the US and Russia/China do not agree on actions things can go very wrong.
