18 February 2014 - On 14, 15 and 16 February 2014, the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) of China notified WHO of nine additional laboratory-confirmed cases of human infection with avian influenza A(H7N9) virus, including one death. Six of the nine cases are male. The age range is 4 to 84 years. Cases were reported from Anhui (2), Guangdong (5), Hunan (1), and Jiangsu (1). 2 cases are in a critical condition, 3 cases are in a severe condition and the condition of 3 cases are unknown at this point in time. Three cases are reported to have had a history of exposure to live poultry. Investigations are ongoing. comment: It is unlikely this is a comprehensive report of the real number of cases in China. Which the massive outbreak in the poultry as in the past, we should see a surge in cases as more people are exposed. Why this has remained primarily in China do to a predisposition genetically of the Chinese is a mystery. Medclinician |
