Greetings All! I just closed on my house and it has a Koi pond and big greenhouse. What a blessing. I am now on a mission to learn how to garden using the greenhouse. In that spirit, I am starting this thread to create a place for all things greenhouse. Please add your thoughts, experiences, lessons and plans on greenhouse. This is especially cogent since we're getting into autumn and winter.
Albert, if you want to move this to another place you think is appropriate, it's okay with me. D |

I have never had a greenhouse but I garden a bit and I beleive the biggest factors you have to worry about with them is heat (as in to hot) and humidity (to low). Below is a link about growing tomatos.

Greenhouses have to be ventilated, they also need a source of carbon dioxide - ie frogs rabbits ect. Well thats all my knowledge a whole one sentance.

growing plants isn't that hard. just stock up on fertilizer, peat moss, and get really good soil. Peat moss will help hold all the nutrients in the soil.

The only way to grow is to take a chance.

WOW guys! Thanks for your congrats. You've really got me thinking about lots of stuff. Keep it comin'. I've got to figure out a way to get frogs in my greenhouse. I did notice a 1" wasp nest in the corner. I've already told them they need to leave or face the consequences.
How about the kinds of things to grow this winter. Thoughts? D |

Hi,whatever you do don't take plants from the garden into the green house without checking them for bugs first,if i were you i would give it a relay good clean out wash all the old tubs and pots to get rid of any previous diseases.I built my own greenhouse last year from pallets i had been given from steel yards ,the dearest part so far has been the plastic sheeting, make sure all gaps are filled and draft proofed and insulation installed for winter,a thermostatically controlled fan stops the frost in winter these are quite varied in price but worth the outlay, i have been amazed by the difference in growth rates between outdoor growing and indoor the greenhouse wins. |
