"DESCRIPTION
Eleven children in a village in western Georgia are
suffering from an unknown virus, a local news agency said Monday. The
Novosti-Georgia agency said all children were students at a school in
the village of Lekhaindravo and showed similar symptoms, including
fever, headaches and vomiting. Georgian Rustavi-2 TV station earlier
reported that three children with the worst symptoms had been
hospitalized. Doctors are attempting to establish the nature of the
disease, the news agency said."
As IF! They will "establish the nature of the disease" only after the media forgets about the story. |

TBILISI, January 5 (RIA Novosti) - Georgian Health Minister Vladimir Chipashvili headed Thursday to the town of Sarpi on the border with Turkey to assess the threat of bird flu pandemic in the region, a Georgian news agency reported. David Meskhishvili, head of the bird flu emergency headquarters, said the situation in Sarpi was rather alarming after the news about possible spread of the bird flu virus in the region. "Sarpi is the most dangerous place in this respect because it borders with Turkey where as we know the virus has already spread," the official said. The minister and emergency headquarters officials are planning to assess the situation in the region and monitor preventive measures against the spread of deadly virus. The NTV channel reported earlier that a 15-year-old girl died Thursday morning of the H5N1 strain of avian influenza, becoming the second victim of the virus in Turkey. Her 14-year-old brother died of bird flu on January 1. Nine other people are hospitalized in the city of Van in eastern Turkey with bird-flu symptoms.
Am watching this case closely as it was almost predicted something like this would happen in this region. |

By far the most likely bug resonspible for this is noro or one of the other nasties that cause gastritis. Or plain old food poisoning. Or, given the symptoms, carbon monoxide poisoning. Or one of a hundred other ordinary causes of puking and a headache.
Want to worry? Watch South Africa. They're having a serious outbreak of influenza, notable for having very high fevers. THAT, I'm watching closely. One of the things to remember is that there are going to be regular outbreaks of random illness. Not everything's bird flu. MOST things aren't bird flu. Little clusters of random lung crud or head crud or stomach crud are perfectly normal worldwide. Even large clusters.
