DJ, April 1 is a day for jokes also in NL...the most funniest this year was "customs cats" to detect fish smuggling...

https://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/nederland/artikel/5375222/1-april-grap-ingetrapt-douane-kat-sigaretten-drone-aarsappel or https://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/nederland/artikel/5375222/1-april-grap-ingetrapt-douane-kat-sigaretten-drone-aarsappel showing a brave cat at its job....

indie_SAGE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjFaxDXOVb0&t=986s or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjFaxDXOVb0&t=986s keeps doing a great job...but it is getting impossible by insane "politics"...a few comments;

Will Newcomb
"The true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members." -Gandhi My heart goes out to all those who are Immuno compromised and clinically vulnerable. You should be at the top of our concern.   Here in China, while they're abandoning mask mandates, most people are still wearing them and my family are all using N95s in indoor settings.  Just like Australia and NZ I'm expecting another wave soon, 3 months after the disastrous wave in December.

-Will Newcomb used to also include a "timeline" on the video...indie_SAGE this time talking about immuno compromised...and how "politics" is abandoning them...

Prof. Christina Pagel is exactly right (as always). Everything is going away except COVID. There is no reason to think that 2023 will be any different from 2022. Here in Southern California March is our best month. Things heat up after the Fourth of July. After Halloween, the official start of the holiday season, it's off to the races until February. People think that I'm a freak, but I wear a respirator in all indoor public spaces. I don't go to restaurants or public gatherings. This is the human condition from now on.

DJ...https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data may no longer be able to give good indications;

-symptoms change (more fatigue, less cold like ???)

-people give up...

DJ...my view...CoViD is becoming widespread in animals...from rats to pets...but "we stop testing"...

https://www.laprensalatina.com/bird-flu-kills-more-than-2000-sea-lions-penguins-in-chile/ or https://www.laprensalatina.com/bird-flu-kills-more-than-2000-sea-lions-penguins-in-chile/ ;

Santiago, Mar 31 (EFE).- Chilean authorities have documented the deaths of 1,535 sea lions and 730 Humboldt penguins due to avian flu, the government said Friday.

“Never before have the events that are happening now occurred in Chile,” the head of the National Fish and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) said.

Soledad Tapia said that the biggest impact of the outbreak has been on pelicans and other birds.

Most of the mammalian fatalities are in the northern regions of Arica, Parinacota, Antofagasta, Tarapaca, and Atacama, where 709 sea lions and 343 Humboldt penguins have died.

Sea mammals have also been found dead in the Biobio region, 500 km (300 mi) south of Santiago.

DJ, by now there will be coinfections of CoViD19 anf H5N1..."don't look up"....

I think there's probably something to ORF9b:T83I. In the last few days, it's started showing up in XBB.1.9.1 (20), XBB.1.9.2 (9), and XBB.1.16 (5). Previously only found (to any major extent) in 2 variants: B.1.526 & BA.5.1. Seems to have conferred 12-13% weekly GA in both.

and

The same mutation now appearing in XBB.1.9.1, XBB.1.9.2, and XBB.1.16: ORF9b:T83I

DJ...of course when you do not stop spread and infections you get new variants...AGAIN !!!!! Corona-virus outbreaks in farm animals means you kill all possibly infected animals...

The 'logics" behind "pseudo-science" claiming "it will get mild" or "it will go away" is -at best- based on wishfull thinking, but it is utter stupidity...Just like climate collapse will not stop if you ignore it...

In Indonesia, Omicron XBB.1.9.1 (yellow) now has a >50% share - one country at least that will skip an Omicron XBB.1.5 wave (cyan) - not because it didn't have an advantage there, but because another even fitter variant emerged. Second is Singapore, where XBB.1.9.1 has 15% share.

Lots of experts still try to do a good job-untill "insanity" defunds them...

"More war" is the "political top priority" with "defense industries" pushing for doubling the US "defense budget"...in fact ALL US goverment spending then will go to "defense"...beyond crazy...

"The west" is driving full speed into a swamp where it may stay...Pandemics, climate need global answers..."the west" is no longer able to provide those answers so "the rest" will do that job..

XBB.1.16 exponentially increasing in India.

DJ...the basic problem is not new variants, other/new diseases...but politics failing to do anything about it "saving the economy"....

Coronavirus disease 2019 already spreading in Germany as early as December 2019.

DJ...it would be welcome if SCIENCE could find out more on when and where CoViD-19 started...Was it in Africa or linked to earlier SARS-like cases in China/SE Asia ? "politics" is destroying any chance for real science...

The "real bad news" however is we had reasonable surveilance in 2019...we did give up on testing-hardly have any sequencing (only limited hospital cases-most CoViD cases in hospital may not even see testing.....!!!!)...insanity as a new normal....

-NO Why should CoViD become milder ?

-NO natural immunity does NOT offer protection against reinfection !

DJ,

https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data may indicate UK CoViD cases going down...or do symptoms change ? So self reporting on symptoms gets less effective ?

https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps/ or https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps/ NL only country-week 11-with "moderate excess deaths" . Germana, Scotland "low" excess deaths...But this does NOT mean CoViD is no longer serious...

Previous COVID infection linked to lower brain oxygen levels, cognitive problems.

Link; https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/previous-covid-infection-linked-to-lower-brain-oxygen-levels-cognitive-problems-study-1.6302197 or https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/previous-covid-infection-linked-to-lower-brain-oxygen-levels-cognitive-problems-study-1.6302197

DJ In Dutch https://twitter.com/BertMulderCWZ or https://twitter.com/BertMulderCWZ Bavaria-part of Germany-has half a million Long CoViD cases on a population of 13 million...Worldwide I think the number of Long CoViD cases could be over 100 million people...Lots of symptoms resemble ME/CFS symptoms-often ignored (at best) by "experts"....

XBB.1.16 at 42% of sequences in Nepal Of the 24 samples collected, ten tested positive XBB 1.16. Three samples tested positive for XBB 1.5, two for BA.1.1, two for BA.2, two for BA.5, two for BA. 5.2, one for BA. 2.76, one for XBB 2.6, and one for XBF.

If you stop testing monitoring changes gets impossible...

SARS-CoV-2 lineage EU.1.1 has additional Spike mutations I410V and P521S and appears to be outgrowing the parent XBB.1.5* in Europe. The growth advantage appears to be on the order of 25-60%, similar to the growth advantage of R346T in BA.5 and BQ.1.

So the outcome is CoViD soon may crash healthcare (again)....Can it get (much) worse ?

Potential recombination between SARS-CoV-2 and MERS-CoV. "a potential zoonotic threat that MERS-CoV could .. be gaining the ability to use hACE2 as an entry  receptor and, thus, could also coinfect ACE2-expressing cells with  SARS-CoV-2.

link;https://www.nature.com/articles/s41392-023-01396-6 or https://www.nature.com/articles/s41392-023-01396-6 ;

In sum, given the high risk of SARS-CoV-2/MERS-CoV recombination, the development of pan-β-CoV vaccines as well as CoV entry and replication inhibitor-based therapeutics is urgently needed to combat the pandemics or epidemics caused by emerging SARS-CoV-3 or MERS-CoV-2 in the future.

DJ-YES !!!! It can get MUCH worse !!!!!

Primary covid vaccinations (1st or 2nd dose) STOPS for almost everyone under 50 in the UK from this summer

Did "Big Pharma" go for profits above public health ?

YES !!! On the longer term vaccines/anti-virals resulted in more immunity evasion...MORE new variants ! In the short term it may have saved lives-on the longer term it made the pandemic even worse...

https://twitter.com/JosetteSchoenma or https://twitter.com/JosetteSchoenma (Dutch) Following new developments-with very limited data...

DJ-With H5N1 spreading-very likely human cases being missed, lots of cases in mammals, with decrease of (human) immunity after CoViD the global health outlook-my view-is bad...

See how it works out now..

DJ...we soon may be in another global wave of CoViD...

COVID-19 Infection Accelerates the Progression of Dementia “Patients with all subtypes of dementia included in the study experienced rapidly progressive dementia following infection with SARS-CoV-2” I’ve been saying this for a long time

and lots of complications from CoViD...

Rare fungus kills one person and hospitalizes two The cluster of cases was caused by Blastomyces, a microscopic fungal  species which lives in moist soil and decomposes wood and leaves.

less immunity against all kinds of other infections just one of many complications...

1918 pandemic flu virus recreated in BSL3 lab in Atlanta. "Four days after infection, the amount of 1918 virus found in the lung tissue of infected mice was 39,000 times higher than that produced by one of the comparison recombinant flu viruses."

link https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/reconstruction-1918-virus.html#reconstruction or https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/reconstruction-1918-virus.html#reconstruction DJ-History can learn us a lot on pandemics...

My view;

Weakest pandemic-part is spread of disease into a host; so the less travel the better...STOP flying diseases all over the planet ! WE CREATED THE PANDEMIC !!!!

Of course masks limit risks, ventilation lowers viral/disease loads (but also could spread a disease !!! so filters/UV-C matter !!!)

You need good testing/surveilance...we did give up on both...hardly any sequencing left simply because they gat no samples...

Also for those who have had trouble loading Collection 24, #Collection42 https://cov-spectrum.org/collections/42 now has just the fastest lineages from #Collection24 as measured highest lower bound of the growth advantage confidence interval “CI (low)”.

link https://cov-spectrum.org/collections/42 or https://cov-spectrum.org/collections/42 some of the newest variants-with mutations, growth advantage...

Vaccine immunity in most countries may be "limited" at best...another CoViD pandemic wave is on its way....With lots of unknowns because of spread in animals, missed variants in chronic CoViD cases...simply lack of testing...

DJ, 'Living with CoViD" is just as crazy as living with wildfires...climate change etc...http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/ipcc-keeps-downplaying-the-danger-even-as-reality-strikes.html or http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/ipcc-keeps-downplaying-the-danger-even-as-reality-strikes.html and https://www.zerohedge.com/weather/35-million-risk-another-burst-tornadic-activity-midwest-south or https://www.zerohedge.com/weather/35-million-risk-another-burst-tornadic-activity-midwest-south

Variant trackers, keep your eye on these new lineages with Y453F.  (XBB.1.31, XBB.1.12, etc) Not many sequences, but Y453F is one of the few prevalent cryptic lineage changes that hasn't been in a major VOC yet. https://twitter.com/SolidEvidence/status/1608050442130300928

Y453F is one of the few prevalent cryptic lineage changes that hasn't been in a major VOC yet..

-

The mutation Y453F in SARS-CoV-2 spike protein is a potential genetic adaptation in minks.

DJ-With CoViD spreading in mammals (from deer to rats...) we will see a lot of new mutations...OF COURSE !!!! it will show up sooner or later in humans...

Nepal: "around 15 percent of the [Covid-19] samples tested are now returning positive results".

and

Test positivity rate in Delhi, India, reaches 26.5% A 26.5% TPR would be one of the highest levels ever recorded in India. The OWID chart below only records up to June 2022.

DJ...present "strategy" is simply to deny there is a problem...

We had expected dementia to overtake heart disease this year (left panel).  But with so many more deaths from heart disease than expected, it has remained in top spot, despite dementia deaths also increasing (right panel).

and yes long/post CoViD is a very major problem !

https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/frequent-testing-reduced-covid-19-deaths-nursing-facilities or https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/frequent-testing-reduced-covid-19-deaths-nursing-facilities NOT testing keeps CoViD-deaths statistics low...over 20,000 NL CoViD deaths in Dutch nursing homes were kept out of the CoViD -deaths statistics for NL...

https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/study-finds-sars-cov-2-spike-protein-accumulating-in-skull-marrow,-brain-meninges-and-brain-parenchyma-while-killing-brain-cells or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/study-finds-sars-cov-2-spike-protein-accumulating-in-skull-marrow,-brain-meninges-and-brain-parenchyma-while-killing-brain-cells Again...CoViD does do damage all over the body...excess deaths may even further increase over time-CoViD may be a slow killer....

--------------

Of course CoViD also decreases immunity...M-Pox still not under control-however "the news" on M-Pox is under control-downplaying both numbers and risks...

https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/united-states/h5n1-tracking-af/972306-bird-flu-outbreak-linked-to-thousands-of-seal-deaths-in-new-england-cdc or https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/united-states/h5n1-tracking-af/972306-bird-flu-outbreak-linked-to-thousands-of-seal-deaths-in-new-england-cdc by now lots of reports of H5N1 spreading in mammals...but most health organizations downplaying risks "to save profits"...

So -will we get another pandemic? YES-it is by now just a matter of time...very likely it can become a "mega-mix" of several diseases in both humans and (farm)animals...It will further worsen the global food crisis. The already excisting healthcrisis will develop into healthcare collapse.....

We need governments working for public interests-not for profits....

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

DJ-It looks like-at least for now-we do NOT see a major new war in the Middle East-bringing millions of more refugees...There is still "seismic unrest"...will we see another M9+ earthquake this month-West Pacific ???

For the first time during this pandemic one of the many “not airborne tweets”, connected to the WHO, has been removed.  finally decided to delete his tweet from March 6, 2020 in which he said that the coronavirus is not airborne.

DJ...just an indication of the problems in dealing with a healthcrisis...

https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data for now UK CoViD numbers may decrease...

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table of very limited value because of lack of testing...Asia cases +16%...India, Singapore, Indonesia see new variants...also hospital cases increasing there again...

There is also some ambiguity over how this individual was exposed, although environmental contamination, likely from birds or marine mammals, is considered a possibility.

So far, none of his contacts have tested positive for avian influenza, but yesterday one of them reportedly developed respiratory symptoms, and will be further monitored.

should be a worry...More H5N1 cases=more mutations/mutation selection in mammals=more risk...https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/united-states/h5n1-tracking-af/wyoming/972380-domestic-cat-in-wyoming-tests-positive-for-bird-flu or https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/united-states/h5n1-tracking-af/wyoming/972380-domestic-cat-in-wyoming-tests-positive-for-bird-flu

DJ-There is NO point in warnings if warnings are simply ignored...we keep offering free global travel for all kinds of diseases....fail to learn a thing...

The "economy=profits" are NOT worth pandemics !!! Governments keep failing to protect their population...and most of the voters seem to think that is great..."freedom"....

DJ, Since statistics are based on hardly any testing-often only testing a very limited part of the population (elderly ending up in hospitals) statistics -even based on self reporting of (what ???) symptoms may be of decreased value...

One XBC.1.6  just showed up from South Korea. The first one outside of Australia. Victoria/Australia uploaded 9 yesterday. Bringing their total to 10!

and

My best guess, looking at this, is that also New Zealand has a growing amount of XBC.1.6. 20 samples in total, that aren't on GISAID (yet).

-

XBC.1.6 is now growing in New South Wales as well, not just in South Australia. Be aware that week 13 in NSW is incomplete (about half of the samples), so the graph could very well be different next week. But it still makes me very curious to see what it will show next week!

DJ...it may by now be "very hard" to get a view on what variants are spreading in what age groups, countries....

Vipin M. Vashishtha

@vipintukur
·
⚡️First data on lab study of XBB.1.16 #Arcturus is out! 1-Relative effective reproduction number (Re) of XBB.1.16 is ~1.3-fold greater than the parental XBB.1, and ~1.2-fold greater than that of XBB.1.5. 1/

and

Delhi logs 733 Covid cases, highest in 7 months.

DJ...symptoms may shift-for some variants-towards neurological, gastro-intestal...others may still look like a (severe) cold...

Unexplained rise in Covid-19 deaths in Spain. Spain recently moved to reporting Covid data on a weekly basis, but Covid deaths seem to be running at a higher rate compared to the first quarter of the year.

and

We haven't found any explanation for the sudden rise in Covid deaths in the Spanish press. The main variants currently circulating in Spain seem to be XBB.1.5, and XBB.1.9.1.

should also show up in https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps or https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps later on...for week 12 (we now are in week 14) excess deaths in NL, Germany 4-7% above the long term norm...However Spain also did see a very early heatwave...also increasing excess deaths.

https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/viruses-like-sars-cov-2-exploit-built-in-antibody-bias-a-threat-lurking-in-our-immune-systems or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/viruses-like-sars-cov-2-exploit-built-in-antibody-bias-a-threat-lurking-in-our-immune-systems ; Human immunity reacting much more to some parts of the virus-less to other parts-giving new variants way to escape immunity reaction...

and https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/study-finds-that-sars-cov-2-activates-ancient-retroviral-genes-and-inflammatory-herv-w-envelope-protein-in-covid-19-patients or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/study-finds-that-sars-cov-2-activates-ancient-retroviral-genes-and-inflammatory-herv-w-envelope-protein-in-covid-19-patients

DJ Both point to immunity problems-not only giving new diseases more chance but also room for "older" infections to reactivate...

--------

Lots of other diseases may be becoming problematic by now...spread of both CoViD and H5N1 in mammals is -in fact- a nightmare...But "we are tired of the virus"...so "it has to be mild"...ignoring tens-of-millions Long/often chronic CoViD cases -resulting in even more new variants...

DJ-In latest news I follow the "war-situation". "The west" seems to be ignoring/denying reality and keeps pushing for wrong choices making matters worse....climate collapse in fact is denied...If the problem gets to big "politics" buy time...seem unable to come up with answers...

https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/asia/h5n1-h5n8-h1n08-tracking/japan/969609-japan-s-bird-flu-cull-to-top-15-million-this-winter or https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/asia/h5n1-h5n8-h1n08-tracking/japan/969609-japan-s-bird-flu-cull-to-top-15-million-this-winter (latest) Japan has lost so many chickens to bird flu, it's now running out of land to bury them.

Japanese state broadcaster NHK reported Tuesday that 16 out of 26 prefectures in the country did not have enough land to dispose of culled birds properly. All 26 had reported experiencing avian flu outbreaks recently. ...

https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/japan-...-flu-1.6345375

DJ Worldwide very likely hundreds of millions of farm birds got "culled/killed" because of "bird flu"...it does not need furter spread to mammals to affect our food (prices)....

African Swine Flu did see millions of pigs being killed (sometimes buried alive...bulldozered...)...meat prices will only increase...egg production problems will get worse...On top of that climate disasters will worsen other food production/storage/logistics...

We need answers NOW !!!

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

April 10-part 1, reasons to discuss "wars"/pandemic links...

DJ-There is a basic idea both when dealing with pandemics and conflicts...the "enemy is weak" or "the disease is low risk"...in both cases a wrong idea can have grave, serious results...endless wars, endless healthcrises...If the "basic thinking" is wrong you do not solve the problem.

Climate collapse http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/ipcc-keeps-downplaying-the-danger-even-as-reality-strikes.html or http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/ipcc-keeps-downplaying-the-danger-even-as-reality-strikes.html is making risks of war, pandemics even worse...empty bla-bla by "talking heads" wasting their lives with lies-in fact-only worsen crises....

At present "Russia is weak" insanity created a NATO-Russian war  destroying Ukraine...At present the idea "CoViD is mild" is resulting in lots of new variants...however we stopped testing...we do not want to see the problem...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_Look_Up#Plot or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_Look_Up#Plot ;

Kate Dibiasky, an MSU doctoral candidate, discovers a previously unknown comet. Her professor Dr. Randall Mindy confirms that it will collide with the Earth in about six months and is large enough to cause a planet-wide extinction eventNASA confirms the findings and their Planetary Defense Coordination Office head Dr. Teddy Oglethorpe accompanies Dibiasky and Mindy to present their findings to the White House. They are met with apathy from President Janie Orlean and her son/Chief of Staff Jason.

and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Inconvenient_Truth or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Inconvenient_Truth

An Inconvenient Truth is a 2006 American documentary film directed by Davis Guggenheim about former United States Vice President Al Gore's campaign to educate people about global warming. The film features a slide show that, by Gore's own estimate, he has presented over 1,000 times to audiences worldwide.

DJ...humanity now may be facing problems they can no longer solve....The basic idea humans had of themselves "top of creation" now switched to fatalism;Any view according to which human beings are powerless to do anything other than what they actually do.[1] Included in this is the belief that humans have no power to influence the future or indeed the outcome of their own actions

Both basic ideas are not very helpfull...In pandemics there are lots of "easy actions" we could do;

Pandemic triangle is "disease-transport-host."...that simple ! So if you can keep disease away from host by limiting transport you may be slowing down a pandemic...

That idea may have worked for CoViD...bird-flu now is that widespread it may kill "trillions of birds" and become very widespread in mammals...If you act realistic on that scenario you would try to limit H5N1 (most) spread to mammals as much as possible...keep farm-birds safe the best one can...

Miximum profits may be a wrong basic idea during pandemics...survival of humans is the ONLY priority !!!!

....

but "we go for profits"...

Stop flying diseases all over the planet would be a good idea during pandemics....ignored...

Masks/ventilation could lower viral load...even that basic idea is "controversial"...

DJ-Vaccines in the past did a great job...(no links with autism...very likely lots of statistics may find autism more in UN-vaccinated !!!)...however they may be of limited use in a major global healthcrisis...

-You need vaccines that stop infection (sterilizing) NOT vaccines that "only" limit the outcome of infection...end up with more immunity evasion...

-We did see billions of vaccines being used in the ongoing CoViD-pandemic...in "the west"m-RNA vaccines for profit were most used...the rest of the world did see "billions" of more "old-style" vaccines...but it did NOT stop the pandemic enough...

-How many vaccines you want to go for ? Vaccinating 8 billion people every 6 months ? Vaccinating "trillions of animals"? There are simply limits...even when you vaccinate via food, water...and you do not have good enough control over the outcome...

So "we can first beat Russia-then China" insanity is resulting in TRILLIONS !!!!! of military spending-decreasing spending on healthcare (to the point we may no longer have much public healthcare left...)...CoViD is over, H5N1 "has to be low risk" is pushing us towards a healthcrisis unseen in centuries...

End of part 1

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

That's fairly strong growth in XBB.1.9.1, up from 31 cases last week to 53 this week:

Saudi Arabia cases +45% may indicate increase of spread (from India ?) to West Asia as well...Statistics have become out of touch with reality due to a total lack of testing/reporting...so we have very limited sequencing...New variants could be (linked to) increasing...but most of the spread is missed...

DJ "viral persistence" simply means the virus still is in the patient..."chronic CoViD" with the virus doing long term damage, mutating...

It looks like XBB.1.5* has a about a week left as the majority lineage in the US.   Still not clear whether XBB.1.9* (currently 17%) will reach dominance before it is overtaken by XBB.1.16* (currently 5%). That will take us into summer, no idea what comes after that.

basic message; pandemic is NOT over..."only" out of sight....

In conversation with the Aquaculture Region of Radio Sago, he explained that the case is under suspicion, despite the fact that the first sample was positive for Avian Influenza.

However, and as dictated by the protocol, we must wait for the respective counter sample.

CNN: Only 24% of Americans personally feel that the pandemic is over, with 53% saying that it’ll never be over.

DJ, Maybe the public is more aware of the risks then "politics/experts for sale"....You do not solve a crisis by ignoring it....

Pakistan seeing a rise in COVID, this report from today’s Dawn paper

⚠️ BREAKING: The women infected by H3N8 bird flu in China 🇨🇳 has died. As the third known case in the world, she is the first person to die of H3N8.

ignoring problems makes matters worse...

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table 57 countries now report increase of cases...a lot of countries simply stopped reporting/testing...

It isn't just unethical, it is HEAD-BREAKINGLY STUPID to devote vast resources - human, financial, medical - to treating cancer patients, only to then infect them with a devastating virus in hospital as a result of gross negligence. ZERO TRANSMISSION IN HEALTHCARE NOW

spread in hospitals is a growing problem...

Disability advocates and physicians call for required masking in hospitals, health facilities

it is that simple !

https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/cdc-statement-on-h3n8-case-in-china.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/cdc-statement-on-h3n8-case-in-china.html

United States Situation:

H3N8 bird flu has never been detected in the United States in people; however, H3N8 viruses of a different genetic lineage have been detected in U.S. wild birds and some mammals in the past. In 2011, there was an outbreak of H3N8 viruses among harbor seals in New England that caused deaths in 162 seals [5].

In the United States, current bird flu preparedness and surveillance activities are largely focused on H5N1 bird flu, which is widespread in U.S. wild birds and has caused extensive outbreaks in U.S. poultry, with sporadic spillover to some mammals. The current risk to the U.S. general public from H5N1 bird flu viruses remains low at this time; however, it is important to remember that risk depends on exposure, and people with more exposure might have a greater risk of infection. CDC has guidance for specific groups of people with exposure to poultry, including poultry workers and people responding to poultry outbreaks. Additional information on protective actions around birds, including what to do if you find a dead bird, is available as well.

DJ...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_A_virus_subtype_H3N8 or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Influenza_A_virus_subtype_H3N8 ;

H3N8 is a subtype of the species Influenza A virus that is endemic in birds, horses and dogs. It is the main cause of equine influenza and is also known as equine influenza virus. In 2011, it was reported to have been found in seals.[1] Cats have been experimentally infected with the virus, leading to clinical signs, shedding of the virus and infection of other cats.[2] In 2022 and 2023, three people in China were infected with H3N8

So ...could post acute CoViD decrease immunity and give H3N8 more chances ? Could we miss H3N8 spread...because there are that many diseases around ?

DJ-France could be close to "breaking" with the US...This could save us from a global war driven by US insanity ! We URGENTLY NEED to take care of global health risks, climate disasters...

We do NOT NEED more US created wars !!!!

DJ-The new "India" CoViD-variant increasing cases in Asia now also seems to be showing up in a.o. Europe...

H5N1 keeps spreading in birds, mammals...

So you do not need "rocket science" to see where this will bring us....

Post/Long-CoViD means (often) less immunity so lots of other diseases may spread...Political priority seems to be more wars...we did see the world spending over a trillion in wars...

SARS-CoV-2 multi-organ spread by red blood cells hitch-hiking "Viral RNA and infectious particles in multiple organs including liver,  lung, brain, heart, kidney, spleen and pancreas, and even the blood of  infected mice.."

link https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.03.29.23287591v1 or https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.03.29.23287591v1 ;

Thus, the presence of viral RNA was only detected in less than 25% of the human serum samples, whereas all had multiple positive nasal swabs for SARS-CoV-2. Notably, we found viral RNA not only in lungs, but also in heart and kidney of deceased COVID-19 patients. Subsequently, we investigated the association between viral organotropism and clinical manifestations employing the MHV murine model. Results from RT-qPCR and viral infectivity showcased the presence of viral RNA and infectious particles in multiple organs including liver, lung, brain, heart, kidney, spleen and pancreas, and even the blood of infected mice. Surprisingly, when comparing plasma and red blood cells (RBCs)-enriched fraction, higher viral load levels were detected in RBCs, with decreased RBC count, and hematocrit and hemoglobin levels in infected mice. Next, we treated infected mice with hemin triggering more aggressive symptoms. Strikingly, when combining hemin treatment with chloroquine (a compound that known to interact with the heme group and induces a conformational change in its structure) the infection and its clinical manifestations were distinctly attenuated. Computational docking suggested that heme is able to bind to MHV Spike protein in a similar way to the one, experimentally observed for SARS-CoV-2. Overall, our results lead to a global perspective of COVID-19 beyond the canonical focus on the respiratory system, and strongly support the multi-organ extent of coronavirus infection through specific interactions with RBC hemoproteins.

AGAIN !!! CoViD does do damage all over the body and the virus may stay....

So the general picture simply is bad...So we stop testing/reporting because "we" do not want to know....

Will we see lockdowns, masks soon or will governments accept massive loss of live-just like they accept 100 million+ Long CoViD cases ?

The basic problem may be a "mental health"..."accepting the unacceptable"....for profit....

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

DJ,

We live in a far from perfect world so;

Fatal multi-organ inflammation following COVID-19 vaccination. A 14-year-old Japanese girl died unexpectedly 2 days after  receiving the third dose of the BNT1262b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. Autopsy  findings showed congestive edema of the lungs,

should not be a surprise....https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1344622323000548?via%3Dihub or https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1344622323000548?via%3Dihub

Vaccines may have saved millions of lives, prevented-for now-lots of Long CoViD cases but at the costs of -likely-thousends of people dying from vaccines that are not that safe as their producers claim...

Philippines XBC Deltacron recombinants: "a relatively early case of XBC collected in March 2022 is likely to be  an active co-infection event. This suggests that co-infection of Omicron  and Delta was already occurring in the Philippines early in 2022"

DJ, We soon will face another global pandemic wave of CoViD...it is NOT over, it is NOT mild...killing still thousends each day, resulting in massive long term health issues...https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/sars-cov-2-infections-literally-causes-your-brain-cells-to-die-more-emerging-cases-of-post-covid-acute-necrotizing-encephalopathy-in-young-adults or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/sars-cov-2-infections-literally-causes-your-brain-cells-to-die-more-emerging-cases-of-post-covid-acute-necrotizing-encephalopathy-in-young-adults

How to deal with the fact we may soon find ourself in a worse phase of the pandemic, global healthcrisis, then we have seen so far ?

There will-for now-be no support for lockdowns, Non Pharma Interventions...some people may be willing to use a mask but in some countries meet a lot of anger...So-politics will try to deny the problem-even with bodies piling up....even with a healthcare crash...The UK did see ambulance/hospitals in crisis just a few months ago..."politics" focussed on their wars...

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/02/25/pers-f25.html or https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/02/25/pers-f25.html february this year;

Over the past two months, the cover-up of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic by the capitalist political establishment and media in the United States and internationally has reached a new level. The fact that millions of people continue to be infected with COVID-19 and thousands die each week is now met with total indifference by the ruling elites, with virtually no reporting on this deepening world crisis.

US President Joe Biden, who falsely claimed last September that “the pandemic is over,” embodies this official apathy to the suffering of the population. Last month, in an offhand comment on the fact that over 1 million Americans have died from COVID-19, Biden bluntly told a conference of city mayors, “I sometimes underestimate it because I stopped thinking about it.”

This was not simply a sign of Biden’s declining mental acuity, but an expression of the capitalists’ sociopathic outlook towards the working class, who account for the vast majority of deaths from COVID-19. It was also a backhanded admission of their intent to kill more.

DJ..."economy/profits first/only"....If "workers get ill" "buy other workers".....In the UK, NL "politics" were not willing to increase pay for Health Care Workers (HCW) they rather "imported" HCW-ers from other countries...

Denial as a (lack of)  "strategy" also is seen in the ongoing NATO-wars, climate collapse..."If you do not like the facts ignore them"-politics...

So-we are moving towards a crash...will hit the concrete wall..."learn the hard way"....

SUPERCUT: Rather than press the govt on the content within the Ukraine Docs leak, "journalists" used today's Pentagon briefing to demand that more be done to prevent future leaks. This should be unthinkable—what kind of journalists push for *less* govt transparency?!👇

DJ, "media-for-sale" play a very destructive role in this pandemic...Bringing "news" on vaccines, masks, restrictions that only made the situation less clear...no doubt paid for that "news" by all kinds of "groups"....

CDC: XBB.1.16 variant debuts as second most common variant in the US. It's clearly been circulating for some time.

DJ, my "view"...vaccine protection for most vaccinated (often more then 6 months ago...) is decreasing high speed. Immunity protection after infection also is going down high speed...if there was ever such a thing as "immunity after CoViD"....

As to be expected while living with #SarsCoV2 ➡️The recombinant of a recombinant! Kudo's

DJ-We may be in an exponential phase for new CoViD variants...MOST OF THE NEW VARIANTS WILL BE MISSED !!!!!

The (outcome of) pandemic -my view- is worse then the risk of nuclear war or climate change...from

12 hospitalized, 1 dead, from Michigan blastomycosis fungus infection.

to

Russia registers world's first case of human infection from new H5N8 bird flu.

DJ we soon may face global health care collapse....Both H5N1 and CoViD by now is widespread in mammals...CoViD came from human hosts, H5N1 spreading to mammals from infected birds...Post-CoViD decrease/loss of immunity will increase (risk of) co-infections bringing more severe disease....

While things are “generally going well” for many Netherlands residents, there are significant developments that pressure the quality of society, according to the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP). One in six Netherlands residents is disadvantaged, and over half of adults have little trust in politics.

“In addition, there are large differences in how well people can manage by themselves in the Netherlands. This structural inequality between groups is persistent and - despite measures taken by the Cabinet - is not declining,” said the SCP.

Over a million adults in the Netherlands are in a “vulnerable situation.” The disadvantaged group relatively often consists of people over 65, single-parent families, and ethnically diverse people. They face an accumulation of problems like physical limitations, financial issues, or problems in the family. They give their life an average score of 6.3, while for others, it is 7.8 on average.

In addition, the SCP has observed for “several years” that the social domain, which includes care, does not function properly for people in vulnerable situations. Many tasks have been assigned to the municipalities since 2015. “The budgets have been reduced, and additional cuts have also been announced for the coming years in youth care, among other things,” the SCP said. Policymakers overestimate the self-sufficiency of the vulnerable, and the policy does not always match people’s “lifeworld.”

Bird Flu Sample from Chilean Man Showed Some Signs of Adaptation to Mammal

These changes were unlikely to be enough to allow the virus to spread easily among humans, and the health risk to the public remains low, experts said.

“We understand them to be a step on the path to adaptation to humans and increased risk to humans,” said Anice C. Lowen, an influenza virologist at Emory University. “So certainly it’s concerning to see them.”

 • Dig deeper into the moment.

But these mutations alone are probably not sufficient to produce a virus that spreads easily among humans, she added.

“Those genetic changes have been seen previously with past H5N1 infections, and have not resulted in spread between people,” Vivien Dugan, acting director of the influenza division at the C.D.C.’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said in a statement.

DJ...Maybe with better monitoring CoViD-19 would have been described as "low risk" for much to long...If it becomes high risk it will cost a lot of money, governments would have to take action...So we may go from "low risk" to Pandemic-level in just a few steps ?

The UK is not ready for the next global pandemic because public services are being dismantled and key research is being defunded, experts have claimed.

More than three years after the global outbreak of coronavirus, top scientists have warned that the UK is no better prepared for a pandemic than it was in 2020.

They say another epidemic on the scale of Covid-19 is inevitable, but that disinvestment in infection-monitoring services, dismantling of key infrastructure, and the state of the NHS mean the country is “losing ground”.

The warning comes as virologists told The Independent that the new Covid-19 variant behind a surge of 10,000 new Covid cases a day in India may turn more aggressive, and could become the dominant strain in the UK.

The variant, first identified in January and known as Arcturus, has been found in 22 countries, including the UK and the US, and has prompted India to resume its production of vaccines.

DJ, XBB.1.16 in India https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table cases +79%, deaths +86%...also other countries see hospital cases, deaths statistics going up...Indonesia cases +25%, deaths +184%, Malaysia cases +49%, deaths +300% (from 3 last week to 12 these last 7 days...).

A 'western solution" could be to even further decrease testing...because "the pandemic has to be over"....At present due to a total lack of testing and sequencing we hardly know what is coming our way...

CoViD is NOT mild either....

DJ, indie_SAGE also discussed UV-C in one of their YouTube videos....Masks have been used for centuries !!!! to protect (at least somewhat) against infectious diseases...Ventilation lowers the viral load...Somehow these very basic steps are being "discussed/denied"....The "Age-of-stupid"....

Vaccines in general do a good job...honest communication on side effects/risks are essential to keep people trusting them...The goal for vaccines has to be public health NOT profits !

And YES !!! Vaccines ARE medical interventions...supposed to be "low risk" but NOT "no risk" ! People can die from a vaccine-reaction...that goes for ALL kinds of vaccines...

We estimate that the start of the pandemic was on or around the 1st November 2019, a date calculated by deducting 120 days  from the 29th February 2020. That is, of course, unless there were prior, unrecorded cases….

DJ, An HONEST and OPEN study on how this pandemic started...if there is a possible link with SARS-1 (2003) or MERS, other outbreaks would be more then welcome...The US is pushing for blame-games...In the present "political climate" a study on the early phase of the pandemic only is possible with "constructive partners" ...There may be some indication https://www.coronaheadsup.com/science/origins/sars-cov-2-in-angola-from-23rd-september-2019/ or https://www.coronaheadsup.com/science/origins/sars-cov-2-in-angola-from-23rd-september-2019/ CoViD-19 may have "African roots" ...other studies point to the Laos-China border jungle...

Another point is where do you claim SARS-2 became the pandemic risk ? The basic corona-virus must have evolved...some mutations did make it a major risk...It is very unlikely we will be able to find "patient zero"...the first (human ?) case of CoViD-19...Was CoViD-19 spreading from bats in pangolins, raccoon dogs or even other animals for a longer time ?

Excess deaths in the U.S. are rising at a shocking rate. Since the pandemic began, excess deaths are up by more than 1.25 million  in the U.S., about 15% higher than in the pre-pandemic years.

DJ, The US has a relative low level of vaccinations...Some try to blame (mRNA)vaccines for excess deaths...but if most of those excess deaths never were vaccinated it becomes non-sense...

There may be "more the welcome" risks in (mRNA) vaccines...but Dr.J.C. mentioned complications in 1 per 800 vaccines having some side effects (even myocarditis often is mild...and virus infection related).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myocarditis or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myocarditis ;

In 2013, about 1.5 million cases of acute myocarditis occurred.[6] While people of all ages are affected, the young are most often affected.[7] It is slightly more common in males than females.[1] Most cases are mild.[2] In 2015 cardiomyopathy, including myocarditis, resulted in 354,000 deaths up from 294,000 in 1990.[8][5] The initial descriptions of the condition are from the mid-1800s.[9]

DJ...I think the numbers may reflect US numbers (in their arrogance the US often believe they are the world...).

-In latest news/Code BLACK I also linked "blind capitalism" with ongoing pandemics (wars, climate collapse etc). Politics has to work for the public good NOT "for profits/the rich" only...If we want to get out of many crises we NEED political reforms...GOOD PUBLIC HEALTHCARE for ALL ! Good free education-so we have enough doctors, HCW-ers ...we now see a trend only the rich can go to university...

Massive addiction, over 2 million people in US prisons reflect US politics are destroying the US...neo-liberalism/conservatism is making problems worse...B&B = Bombs and Bribes -the US starting another war in Sudan-has to stop...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

DJ,

I noticed the info on Albuterol shortage https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a682145.html or https://medlineplus.gov/druginfo/meds/a682145.html ;

Albuterol is used to prevent and treat difficulty breathing, wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and chest tightness caused by lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD; a group of diseases that affect the lungs and airways)

DJ, Here in NL pharmacies run into more and more problems getting all kinds of medications...There could be lots of reasons;

-Increase of demand means shortage (at least short term)

-Some medication is "outsourced" to "overseas" (India, South Africa) -so if demand is growing there, production capacity not increasing fast enough shortage is a result

-Basic ingredients are harder to get/costs get to high to make profits...(May be a factor when western companies deal with competition from low-income countries. Production costs in "the west" go up...other countries may see costs going up less...try to out-compete western companies).

-Here in NL government and healthinsurance work together in buying medication. They offer relative low prices...so "big pharma" sometimes go for more profits in other EU countries (with then pharmacies sometimes buying medication in other EU member states...).

-------

27.5% chance that a pandemic as deadly as COVID-19 could take place in the next ten years. Had the original COVID-19 wild type been as transmissible as Omicron,  more than 300,000 thousand people would have died in the UK alone.

link https://www.airfinity.com/articles/a-strong-pandemic-defence-system-could-reduce-the-chance-of-another-covid or https://www.airfinity.com/articles/a-strong-pandemic-defence-system-could-reduce-the-chance-of-another-covid ;

This new risk-assessment outlines the likelihood of future pandemics under varying degrees of severity. It shows that in a worst case scenario, an avian flu type mutation that transmits from human to human could kill as many as 15.000 in a single day in the UK.

In recent times, we have seen an increase in the frequency of virus emergence. Climate change, the rise in international travel, a growing global population and the increasing threat posed by zoonotic diseases are some of the main factors contributing to the increase in high risk outbreak incidences.

DJ, https://www.thailandmedical.news/articles/news or https://www.thailandmedical.news/articles/news has lots of links on both CoViD and other diseases...mass events increasing spread in a.o. Thailand, Malaysia...but Eastern in Europe/America/Africa also may bring more spread of all kinds of diseases...

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table may give some indications...

Germany cases +79%, deaths +92% looks alarming...Mexico cases +36%, deaths +61%...lots of "best prepared" countries (US,UK, NL top 3)  stopped most of testing...(Only) 56 countries however report increase of cases...

Reinfections fuel Singapore’s new Covid-19 wave as cases jump. Daily infections have risen from about 1,400 a month ago to roughly 4,000 cases a day last week. About 30 per cent are reinfections, higher than the 20-25% rate seen in the previous wave.

So...are we moving into another -major- global CoViD-19 pandemic wave ? We may not be able to hide increase of hospital cases, deaths...even if we stop testing.

Based on incomplete and inconsistent reporting by WHO member nations, COVID appears to be generally in decline around the globe, with the WHO reporting in their latest weekly update:

Globally, 3 million new cases and over 23 000 deaths were reported in the last 28 days (13 March to 9 April 2023), a decrease of 28% and 30%, respectively, compared to the previous 28 days (13 February to 12 March 2023).

But these numbers are based on what is reported, and as we've seen increasingly over the past year, fewer and fewer countries are submitting timely data on hospitalizations and/or deaths.  In their latest report, the WHO acknowledges that:

DJ-The people kept poor run much more health risks...both obesity and CoViD are poverty related ! Blaming the victim is NOT an answer (but an insult; show of ignorance and stupidity !!!).

It would be welcome if less reports on H5N1 would mean there are less cases of H5N1...very likely it is just ignored....

Trying to get "a view" of the CoViD and non-CoViD global health crisis...

CoViD https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data UK self reported symptoms still decreasing...however it is less clear by now what the symptoms could be (a.o. eye problems...but it also could be hay fever..) besides that "pandemic fatigue" may show up...What is the point ?

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table There are now 66 countries reporting an increase of cases...with low testing going on for -often- months it may hint at global new wave ? There are 29 countries reporting increase of CoViD deaths...

People first need to catch a disease before they die from the disease...also excess deaths may be linked to long term damage of CoViD (often not recognized).

https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps/ or https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps/ only NL has low excess deaths here...in week 15. (There is a "play" button above the map to see excess deaths per week from 2017...pandemic excess deaths are at limited peaks...A bad flu season or heatwaves also did bring excess deaths before the pandemic.

A further look at worldometers; highest reported numbers today come from South Korea, these last 7 days 81,339 cases - the week before it was 72,690 cases, =+12%. SK deaths went from 60 last week to 36 these last 7 days -40%...

Global -reported- cases 524,192 from 614,503 last week..still between 70,000 and 80,000 new cases per day...getting reported (ZOE-UK has still over 70,000 UK cases per day based on self reporting).  Global cases -15% deaths as far as reported and linked to CoViD -19%, 3,779 last week this week it went down to 3,065...still over 400 CoViD deaths get reported each day...

Regions ;

Europe cases -27%, deaths -8%

North Amerca c -28% d -40%

Asia c +7% d -14%

South America c -2% d -0,5%

Africa c +7% d -8%

Oceania c -55% d -60%

DJ More then 50% of the global population lives in Asia...Testing/reporting is "lousy" at best...

Asia seems to be moving into another wave...Israel cases +60% (1525 to 2435)...but a.o. also (Latin America) Mexico cases +29% 11,658 this week from 9,035 last week...deaths +28% 82 last week 64)

A lot of -most western- countries deny the pandemic...so the statistics -if any- are not realistic indications...

DJ-End of part 1 for today...the statistics...

Hundreds of doctors working on the front line during the Covid pandemic have been told they won’t have jobs in the NHS training scheme from August, despite the health service being dependent on them to tackle surgical backlogs.

Almost 700 anaesthetists – who had key roles caring for critically ill patients struggling to breathe during the Covid surges – have been dropped from the NHS training scheme and are unable to progress in their careers because of a shortage in places.

One junior doctor listed 40 jobs across the country that he would have considered moving to, but had been rejected for every single one, despite ranking in the top third of candidates nationally.

He told The Independent that the news was a “slap in the face” after the past year and that he felt “let down” after giving so much during the pandemic.

Human cases have been rare since H5N1 first emerged in 1996, but the most recent outbreak has seen the disease infect mammals like bears, dolphins, and cats.

WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said those cases "need to be monitored closely".

https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/eid-journal-evolution-of-avian.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/eid-journal-evolution-of-avian.html ;

While H5N1 has been at the forefront of this blog since its inception more than 17 years ago, it is far from the only novel flu virus on our radar.  H5 and H7 avian flu viruses are of understandable concern due to their high mortality rate in humans, but as we've discussed often, H1, H2, and H3 viruses have been responsible for all human influenza pandemics going back at least 130 years.

The oldest pandemic we can be certain of was the 1918 `Spanish Flu’, which killed anywhere between 40 million and 100 million people, and was caused by an H1N1 virus, followed by H2N2 in 1957, H3N2 in 1968, and H1N1 in 2009.

While none of this means that an H5 or an H7 virus couldn’t adapt to humans (or hasn’t in the past), it does make one take notice anytime we find a novel H1, H2, or H3 influenza virus emerging in the wild.

Despite all of the attention given to H5N1, since 2021 the CDC has ranked a Chinese Swine-variant EA H1N1 `G4' as having the highest pandemic potential of any flu virus on their list (see EID Journal: Zoonotic Threat of G4 Genotype Eurasian Avian-Like Swine Influenza A(H1N1) Viruses, China, 2020).

The emergence of a zoonotic H3N8 virus almost exactly a year ago in China - first infecting 2 children 400 km apart in Henan and Hunan Provinces in April and May of 2022 - and more recently a fatal infection of a 56 year old woman in Guangdong Province, have put yet another H3 virus on our watch list.

While these are the first 3 confirmed human infections with H3N8, we've been following its evolution in birds, dogs, horses, and marine mammals for quite some time.

All of which brings us to a new research article published this week in the CDC's EID Journal which finds 4 sublineages and an astonishing 126 genotypes of avian H3 viruses circulating in China.

DJ, CoViD is spreading (now) from humans into other mammals...H5N1 -etc.- is spreading from (a.o.) birds into mammals...With a background of climate collapse, global wars the outlook is "bad"....

We are in a new wave of the ongoing CoViD pandemic...and NO CoViD is not "mild" or "flu-like" the corona-virus infection may spread all over the body and do great harm...

Causal effects of COVID-19 on cancer risk: A Mendelian randomization study "our study indicated that COVID-19 had causal effects on cancer risk."

Even when initial symptoms look mild or do not even show...

India: highest Covid cases in around 8 months India recorded 12,591 new COVID cases in a day, the highest in around eight months.  Active cases increased to 65,286

At best, molnupiravir (MOV) is a useless drug we’re wasting $$ on. At worst, it could accelerate the emergence of novel variants with unpredictable characteristics. First I’ll explain why MOV is useless. Later, I’ll present evidence I’ve found that it could be dangerous. 1/

The pandemic is man-made by NOT stopping virus spread in time end of 2019, early 2020...Even when Wuhan went in lockdown global air traffic went on...

DJ-We never had so many humans on this planet most in mega-cities, with so much (farm)animals and that much transport...So...it had to go wrong somewhere, sometime...

The weak-spot in pandemics is transport of the disease to the hosts...but we kept transport going on most of the time..."economy"...

So https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/eurosurveillance-cryptic-sars-cov-2.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/eurosurveillance-cryptic-sars-cov-2.html ;

We've an unusual report - published today in the ECDC's Eurosurveillance journal - that describes the discovery of a cryptic lineage of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on two mink farms in Poland, which may have evolved from an as yet unknown host species.

While exquisitely adapted to humans, SARS-CoV-2 has also found a plethora of other suitable hosts, including mink, deer, cats, and even rodents (see Nature: Comparative Susceptibility of SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV Across Mammals).

The worry is that new, and potentially more dangerous variants could arise in a non-human host, and then spill back over into humans. It is not just a hypothetical concern, as it has already happened on at least one occasion.

DJ...CoViD is out of control....and spreading now from humans into other mammals....

Sunday, april 23,

DJ, Background is both global war and climate risks are getting worse by the day...Lots of things we could/should do-frustrating part is we do not do what is needed...(more in latest news)

Pandemics;

DJ-There is discussion on did H5N1 "catch" enough mutations to be a risk for humans...TMN article has a Canada study on mammal-mammal spread of a type of H5N1https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-2842567/v1 or https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-2842567/v1 ;

Here we show that multiple naturally circulating reassortant H5N1 viruses can replicate in primary human airway epithelial cells and cause lethal disease in multiple mammalian species. One isolate, A/Red Tailed Hawk/ON/FAV-0473-4/2022, efficiently transmitted by direct contact between ferrets, resulting in lethal outcomes. Historically, H5 subtype viruses do not transmit effectively between mammals, and recent studies of currently circulating H5N1 viruses showed mild infection outcome in ferrets without detectable transmission. While known specific mutations within the Eurasian lineage H5Nx viruses have allowed for increased viral fitness in mammals, reassortment of H5N1 viruses with NA lineage avian IAVs may be unpredictably (unexpectedly) contributing to further enhancements in virulence and transmissibility in mammals, with potential increased risk to humans. Our research has determined that certain, as yet uncharacterized, genetic signatures may be important determinants of mammalian adaptation and pathogenicity of these viruses. Ongoing surveillance of circulating HPAI A(H5N1) viruses across species, including humans, should be a top priority so as to promptly identify viruses that may have pandemic or outbreak potential in mammals.

Tom Peacock: "mammalian adapted viruses might still not be optimally adapted to infect humans" A study on what mutations might be needed for avian flu to infect humans.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc0OLLDBxBc or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mc0OLLDBxBc indie_SAGE still trying the best they can...and yes-there is some progress ! But even basic statistics are a problem....

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table 66 countries report increase of cases...however most countries hardly test...

China SARS-CoV-2 recombinant designated XCC.

DJ, a reason why China may only bring -so far- limited new variants is the strict CoViD rules they hade. So CoViD in China does not -yet- has to evade previous immunity...Still chronic CoViD may bring new variants...

Las Vegas Strip Has a Scary Covid-Created 'Fatal Fungus' Problem. Imagine how much worse things would be if we were in the middle of an undeclared biological war.

DJ, there is not much discussion on CoViD resulting in weaker immunity...however how that works out where (T-cells, B-cells etc) is a complex discussion...One CoViD variant may work out in a different way on immunity then another...More infections seem to bring -in general- more damage to immunity...So it may create more room for all kinds of flu (not just H5N1...).

In short http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/high-sea-surface-temperature-in-north-atlantic.html or http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/high-sea-surface-temperature-in-north-atlantic.html like with climate we now also face a global healthcare crisis we never have seen earlier in history...

Since "the public" was told the "pandemic is over"...it is "mild" and other -in fact- lies we may be less prepared for it then in 2019...

On top of that also all kinds of flu show up...

What does help ???

-GOOD info...the best one can...with lots of things not yet known....

-Ventilation is lower viral/disease loads...UV-C also can help

-Masks/glasses limit catching diseases-they do that job already for centuries...maybe not always perfect-better then nothing !

-Avoid crowded places (indoor)

So lots of things one can do (without endless discussions !)

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

In Germany (2022), it was observed that exposure to the COVID-19 pandemic had put children under pressure in terms of mental health and had increased anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and depression in them [

]. In Bandgladesh, exposure to the COVID-19 pandemic caused an increase in mental disorders in children, so that 2.7% of children suffered from severe mental disorders and 19.3% from moderate mental disorders [

]. In the study of Shekerdemian et al., who investigated the clinical symptoms in children infected with Covid-19, 3% of the children had seizures [

]. In general, COVID-19 disease has caused a variety of symptoms in patients. What is important in the present study is that the patient is young, has no history of underlying disease, and has not received any medication or vaccine for COVID-19, and hallucinations and delirium after treatment for COVID-19 and relief of symptoms associated with the disease persisted and needed to be treated for a longer period time.

DJ...there must be lots of cases of a mix of diseases...but we "stopped testing"

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2023/04/long-covid-patients-are-being-left-to-their-own-devices/ or https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2023/04/long-covid-patients-are-being-left-to-their-own-devices/ ;

Researchers have estimated that one in eight people who caught coronavirus have longer term problems but how many people are permanently disabled by the disease is not known.

Health minister Ernst Kuipers said in a reaction that more research into Long Covid cures and diagnosis is needed and that the health ministry is supporting European-wide research.

DJ, NL has -by now- a bad name for dealing with ME/CFS, Long CoViD as "mental issues"....We have the EU so national governments can "buy time" ...There are several estimates on global number of Long CoViD cases-in between 40 million people to 100 million+ ...There is no clear definition, some only have "mild" issues (smell/taste not the way it was..) for now...Others hardly are able to get out of bed...

AGAIN !!! Post-viral damage is NOT NEW !!!! We did see very large problems ( a.o. sleeping disorders) in the past...

https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20230425_40/index.html or https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/20230425_40/index.html

The group said the AI estimated that the daily average of new cases for a seven-day period in mid-May will be about 3,100 in Tokyo. It said that the figure stayed the same regardless of the percentage of people who wear masks.

But for late August, the AI estimated that new cases will be 6,900 with 20 percent of people wearing masks, 5,400 if half the people in the capital wear masks, and 4,100 with almost everyone wearing a mask.

Tokyo's seven-day average of new infections as of Monday was 1,326.

Hirata said most people appear to be gradually easing anti-infection measures. He said he hopes people will continue to take appropriate measures in some cases, such as meeting seniors, even after the legal classification of COVID-19 is downgraded.

DJ; Masks Matter !!!!

It is beyond crazy we did see even a discussion on masks...NO-They are not perfect ! (I do not know if virus-parts are that small it would get through even the best masks...but we would see a lot more HCW-ers with CoViD if masks did not do a good job !)  Masks have been used for centuries to at least limit the viral load !

Bivalent booster fails against XBB Study from Cleveland clinic shows effectiveness of only 4% The failure was notable after recombinant variants arrived https://medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2022.12.17.22283625v5.full.pdf

DJ, the main problem with non-sterilizing vaccines is they -for the short term- may limit disease but NOT stop infections...On the long run you end up with immunity evading variants in reaction to massive vaccine campains...(the polio-vaccines with LIVE polio-virus is another discussion...for practical reasons in high risk zones you may not have that many alternatives...).

I understand WHO wants to control naming and I agree they should. The best way out is to use a naming system that works for people, not use the first half of the Greek alphabet for the first infections and Omicron for the rest of the pandemic. Please!

---it is getting beyond absurd.....

I think European countries should not only keep an eye on XBB.1.16, but on XBB.2.3 as well. XBB.1.16 might be a bit faster, but XBB.2.3 seems to still be a little ahead (depending on the country).

True. In the Netherlands 7 XBB.1.16 and 27 XBB.2.3 have been found so far. In Belgium 2 XBB.1.16 and also 27 XBB.2.3, I think. XBB.2.3 does not seem to grow when XBB.1.16 is already dominant, but if not, it might be different.

Adverse Events (RNA/DNA/LNP Jabs) Due to Net Charge (Zeta Potential) on the LNP, RNA Fragments, Other Charged Particles, Lipid Properties, DNA Lipoplexes, the Spike Protein, and Protein Misfolding.

Plasmid Contamination, LNP, LNP/RNA/DNA Hybrid, DNA Lipoplex, LPD, and More. ( How the different possible charges of the LNP's leads them to different locations in the body...and the consequences.
Possibly the most profound being:
-> freeze/thaw process changes/damages nanoparticle structure and RNA
-> plasmids contaminating the vaxxes encode the spike
-> plasmids can replicate
-> plasmids can integrate into human cell DNA and bacteria
-> effect on MAST cells.
-> DSPC as an ingredient in the vaxxes (neuro, carcinogen issues) https://christielauragrace.substack.com/p/adverse-events-rnadnalnp-jabs-due (ps I will remove this ,or move to other place if needed .J )

April 28,

DJ-there are claims new variants all still named "O-micron" (Greek for small "o" - O = O-mega-large "O") are pushing up number of (hospital) cases, deaths...Once statistics could give a hint on what new variants (XBB.1.16 just one of them) did do...

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table only 47 countries report increase of cases...From 700,000 new cases last week the last 7 days only did see 485,000 new cases reported...If this view would have any link with reality there would be a basis for optimism...

https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data self-reporting on symptoms in the UK; "incidence" daily new cases are slowly increasing again...71,078 new report of symptoms april 26...last days before it was under 70,000, above 65,000. Active UK cases never went under 1 million-now may show a very slow increase soon..

Malaysia may reintroduce mask mandate in schools. Covid subvariant to blame. Asked whether the health ministry is considering recommending the use of face masks beyond just schools and to the public, the spokesperson said, “Yes, soon.”

DJ, Asia may see more increase of cases. (worldometers)..with South and East Asia major growth. However other regions may also see places where number of cases are increasing. Terrible statistics/reporting prevent a realistic view...So we may NOT know in time if some regions see a growth of a new high risk variant in time...

https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps or https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps only has low excess deaths in Germany...may report increase of excess deaths from Spain...but there it will be linked to a heatwave...record high temperatures for april...

Which brings me to -supposed- season effects. The NL-CDC (RIVM) a few years ago stated in winter 10% more cases, summer 10% less...may go for more than only CoViD. In winter people stay more indoor, less ventilation-so higher viral load...CoViD developed a lot in warm countries-so we may see less of a season effect...

DJ, may give some indication on what variants are spreading-however most samples being sequenced may be from hospital cases...So later in the process-not the newest variants, also hospital cases often are older people.

"An  estimated one in 10 infections results in post-COVID-19 condition,  suggesting that hundreds of millions of people will need longer-term  care."

Long CoViD by now may be the most spread form of CoViD -not the "acute" phase...

SARS-CoV-2 in US White-tailed Deer. SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA was detected in 13% (1,307) of 10,217 samples.

DJ spread of both CoViD from humans into mammals and (a.o.) H5N1 from birds into mammals must be happening on a very major scale...and should be seen as a nightmare...

https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/eid-dispatch-replication-of-novel.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/eid-dispatch-replication-of-novel.html ;

With China last month reporting their third human infection with avian H3N8, and recent studies suggesting that this avian virus continues to accrue mammalian adaptations (see EID Journal: Evolution of Avian Influenza Virus (H3) with Spillover into Humans, China), there is a good deal of concern over its future trajectory.

Last week the above mentioned study identified 4 sublineages of H3 AIVs and 126 distinct genotypes, of which the H3N2 G23 genotype has recently predominated in China. The study found:

 • After reassortment with 6 internal genes of H9N2, current H3N8 AIVs seem to have the advantage of infecting humans (42). Ongoing adaptation in mammals after continuous human infections may underlie emergence of pandemic strains.
 • H3 AIV has shown the potential for cross-species transmission and was the origin of other animal influenza viruses, which caused epidemics in horses, dogs, seals, and pigs
 • The H3N8 G25 viruses had acquired human-adapted mutations after infecting humans (Appendix Figure 14), such as 228G/S in the HA gene and E627K/V in the PB2 gene, which were also present in 1968 H3N2 pandemic strains (43). This finding indicates the pandemic potential of the newly emerged H3N8 AIVs.
While concerning, the low number of human cases reported so far suggests the virus isn't quite ready for prime time. Although there may be some cases we are missing, widespread circulation in humans seems doubtful at this point.

DJ-again; case-case-cluster-cluster-boom...exponential growth starts with 0,1% becoming 0,2% -then 0,4%, 0,8%, 1,6% etc...

WHO: Covid deaths have dropped by 95% this year. "We’re very encouraged by the sustained decline in reported deaths from  COVID-19, which have dropped 95% since the beginning of this year."

DJ, from a virus perspective "using hosts longer" could benefit virus spread...

Is Covid like an "allien invasion" trying to "take over" the planet ? That may be a bit dramatic...but if virus diseases manage to get into lots of hosts -slow kill-that simply is bad news !

DJ, next episode in two weeks...Some of my "views";

Statistics-did decrease of testing result in lower reported numbers-while real number of cases/deaths did not change-at least for some time...

Also a remark made on more need for anti-virals then vaccines if another pandemic starts...Vaccines come later...

DJ-My view is we need to change the way we live...It is the way we live-with billions of hosts for all kinds of diseases AND lots of contact/travel that is part of the increase of pandemic risks...

The UK conservative party is destroying public health...in the US republicans, EU "neo-liberals"(NL-vvd) "hate" anything "public"...With that kind of thinking one only increases publc risks...

Poverty is a major factor in pandemic risks...it is the poor that suffer so much more...and it is a rich elite that "does not care"...

[urlhttps://www.independentsage.org/ or https://www.independentsage.org/ has more on the WHO studies on "next pandemics"...but we are in denial of the present pandemics...

DJ, CoViD is just one of the ongoing pandemics, HIV-AIDS is not over M-Pox a potential risk, a.o. H5N1 seem to be increasing...the "idea" of "living with it" (bojo) comes down to "dying from it"!

Just like climate collapse pandemics need real answers...not empty words !

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

April 30 -last day of this month...

How governments/politics deal with one problem may tell us something on how the deal with other problems...

-In Ukraine some hardline western countries keep pushing for more escalation...somehow hoping it would "end Putin" ...This "strategy" may have cost Ukraine over 400,000 deaths...still some "leaders" want more tax/created money into more weapons...(to fill their own pockets ?)

My view; Even zelensky may be willing to talk with China on a way out...lots of Ukraine "elite" may no longer believe/trust the west pushing for more deaths...

The "rest" of the world is going for "trade not war"...not wasting energy on "hopeless insanity"...

-So CoViD;

CDC to stop tracking community levels for Covid-19. "Instead, the CDC will keep tabs on Covid-19 largely by tracking hospitalizations in some areas."

DJ, Do not test-do not tell ...the official western "strategy"...

Malaysia - highest Covid weekly case rate since December 2022.

-

According to the latest data from the Malaysian health ministry, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by 30.4 per cent in the 14 days leading up to Apr 22. The health ministry also recorded 14,161 active cases as of that date.

The reality may be "the west" by not testing & reporting is fooling itself in believing "the pandemic is over"....

People with Long Covid respond differently to COVID-19 vaccines. COVID-19 vaccine produces antibodies far longer than expected.

Link; https://scitechdaily.com/long-covid-cedars-sinai-researchers-find-covid-19-vaccine-produces-antibodies-far-longer-than-expected/ or https://scitechdaily.com/long-covid-cedars-sinai-researchers-find-covid-19-vaccine-produces-antibodies-far-longer-than-expected/

DJ-If vaccines would offer at least some protection longer that would be welcome...Could maybe also be part of the reason why countries with relative high vaccination levels see "limited damage"...

COVID will eventually evade Paxlovid, Deborah Birx says “Right now, we’re just accepting that 270,000 Americans died last year,” she said. “Two-hundred and seventy thousand. We’re going to easily lose over 100,000 this year. That, to me, is not success.”

link; https://fortune.com/well/2023/04/29/covid-antiviral-paxlovid-evade-deborah-birx-double-deaths/ or https://fortune.com/well/2023/04/29/covid-antiviral-paxlovid-evade-deborah-birx-double-deaths/

DJ, The long term problem with CoViD (like we did see in animal outbreaks earlier-NOT new !!!) is it selects mutations better in evading immunity (from vaccines/anti-virals and/or earlier infections). My view; we may see less CoViD deaths...however much more "Long-chronic CoViD cases"...The virus may welcome keeping its hosts alive...so the virus can even further optimize its spread...

https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data UK active cases still decreasing very slowly...

https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/covid-19-news-forget-about-xbb-1-16-variant,-experts-and-the-general-public-should-be-more-worried-about-the-xbb-2-3-variant-and-its-spawns or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/covid-19-news-forget-about-xbb-1-16-variant,-experts-and-the-general-public-should-be-more-worried-about-the-xbb-2-3-variant-and-its-spawns

Among others https://www.independentsage.org/weekly-briefing-28th-april-2023/ or https://www.independentsage.org/weekly-briefing-28th-april-2023/ makes the point that infection with XBB.1.5 may offer some protection against XBB.1.16 variants...(India did not see much of XBB.1.5 so XBB-recombinant 1.16 had more chances there) ..It however only would result in more room for other variants...that we stop testing/reporting...

"It is only mild"-nonsense may see 1 in 10 workers long term ill...Most at risk are low paid workers working in high risk jobs, using public transport, living in bad housing...the risks are NOT equal !

Replying to
There was a big new upload. 🙏 The new graph does not make things easier though. Many growing variants. I would not dare to say which one will prevail, but I am not surprised numbers are going up! FK.1 is a CH.1.1 sublineage. Australia / New South Wales

DJ, Due to only testing limited hospital cases we miss most new variants (hospital cases did develop more severe illness/have other healthissues, also older most of the time). And even when there is testing/sequencing-since we "miss most pieces of the puzzle" it may be hard to see/say where it is going...

Of course the same goes for a.o. H5N1...most cases missed...lots of spread (both CoViD and "flu") in mammals...

The basic strategy is "hope" things will not go wrong...with all indications for things going wrong by now very clear..."so more bribes & bombs"...more "media-lies"...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
