Fired from the northwestern Arkhangelsk region, the multi-warhead RS-24 rocket hit its target on the Kamchatka Peninsula on the Pacific Ocean 6000km away. The RS-24 is intended to replace the country's aging Soviet-era missiles. What makes the RS-24 special is that Russia claims it will be able to penetrate missile defence systems, like the one the United States wants to install over some parts of eastern Europe. |

Yes, I believe the world will see another Cold War with Russia. Up until recently, Russia had been pretty much in disarray after the breakup of the Soviet Union. The EU and NATO has expanded, taking in former Soviet satellite countries of Eastern Europe.
As long as Putin remains in control of the Russian government, the more restrictions and controls I envision. For the last year or so now, the Russian military has been flexing it's muscle, by sending fighter aircraft into NATO airspace, checking air defense capabilities no doubt. Russia has scrapped most of the arms treaties enacted after the Soviet breakup. Russia has claimed, officially, a portion of the Arctic Circle as it's own territory (resulting in a variety of nations scrambling to lay claim to the Arctic as well).
Russia's depedenc on foreign oil is no longer an issue, as Russia's own oil reserves are, I believe, second only to Saudi Arabia's. Dabbling with capitalism and democratic policies HAVE helped Russia financially, and the govt. is putting that extra money to use.
2008 should be an interesting year, politically.
