I was scheduled to be on a nationwide call with the CDC at 1pm EST. It was cancelled 30 minutes prior to call time.

As a precursor to the call they sent out info that their recommendation was school closure for 8-20 weeks.

Colleagues,

The CDC has updated their guidance on school closings. Its recommendations are significant because it shares that short to medium closures do not have the necessary impact on reducing the spread of the coronavirus. Officials suggest that longer closures of eight to 20 weeks will have a greater impact.

Join me for a briefing with Dr. Kathleen Ethier, Director of CDC's Division of Adolescent and School Health on the latest guidance for school closings during the novel corona (COVID-19) outbreak. The briefing will cover the latest CDC guidelines as well as answers to questions AASA has been fielding from school leaders.

The briefing will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. ET

They not closing schools here ,

reason:

The logic is if they close schools the kids will meet up anyway,as they are probably been looked after by grandparents

So by keeping them home you adding to the risk....to the oldies....

And also kids at home will.be down the shopping mall causing trouble.....

I think the teachers should move class rooms not the kids if they stay at school

Not sure about it, but sounds good at this time,

That's a good point about kids still meeting up and then infecting older folks in the home, BUT, that's why school closures, coupled with mandatory/enforced by law enforcement shelter in place orders that shutdown all non-essential workplaces and activities, will be the the way to go. The Bay Area is already at this level.

If a student is currently infected, they'd likely give to grandma anyway, whether in school or not. But this way limits the spread between homes.

I can't see the mandatory lock down enforced by law working here,i could be  wrong,

I expect  and hope AUSSIES will do the the right thing,

My train to work was very empty this morning,we have no h2h  here in Perth at the moment,i do wish  our state government

Would stop all flights from our east coast, (as advised by our medical people) where there is h2h,that would make me happy.

Take care all
