Mask up on the way home tonight and if you've had any symptoms get a test. DJ Unclear how the spread in Auckland started...https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-current-cases or https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-current-cases ; (Hoped to find more info...) The health department said the case was identified in Auckland, the country's largest city, adding "a link between the case and the border or managed isolation is yet to be established". Bad news ! |

DJ New Zealand now may face what Australia, China are facing; trying to keep cases as low as possible. |

Expected to get to between 50 and 120. There have been some pre-lockdown parties, people moving out of Auckland (possibly spreading the virus...). As far as reported most cases are in young people 20-30 y/o-social active...going from hospital-work, school-work, to casino's, churches, supermarkets...Worst case scenario. DJ-It may be very hard to keep cases limited-door to door testing, longer term national lockdown could be needed. |

New Zealand's level-4 lockdown was sparked after a positive test was returned by a Devonport man on Tuesday this week - officials deemed the man had been infectious since Thursday last week. But eatery Sumthin Dumplin in Auckland's city centre has been pinged as a location of interest for one of New Zealand's now 10 Delta cases from Tuesday, August 3. Otago University epidemiologist Michael Baker told Newstalk ZB the new date was remarkable - and very worrying. He said a more complex picture was emerging - of who was really the first case and who passed the virus to whom. August 3 "really pushes back the start of this outbreak," Baker said. "It is a more complex picture that is emerging here." DJ...It looks like Delta had around two weeks to spread...Not good-maybe not showing up yet in sewage water samples is "good news"... |

DJ-Cases doubling every 24 hrs ? https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/live-pm-fairly-certain-and-virus-entered-country or https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/new-zealand/live-pm-fairly-certain-and-virus-entered-country ; The total number of community cases in the outbreak is 20. - Eleven new community Covid-19 cases have emerged since Wednesday evening, all in Auckland. - The community Delta outbreak in Auckland has been found to be a "close match" to a recent returnee from Sydney. - Young New Zealanders aged 12 to 15-years-old have Government approval to be vaccinated against Covid-19 with the Pfizer vaccine. - Dr Bloomfield says updated modelling numbers which are based on the earliest (August 3 date) location of interest are now at a lower estimate - about 50 cases, rather than a higher number of around 120 which was estimated earlier. DJ It would be very welcome news if New Zealand could limit this outbreak ! |
