Possible Ebola case reported at Miami-area hospital
The case was reported by a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official on Monday. Nearly 1,900 people have died in the latest outbreak of the disease, which began in West Africa. BY Meredith Engel , Sasha Goldstein / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS/ Published: Monday, September 8, 2014, 1:11 PM / Updated: Monday, September 8, 2014, 1:28 PM A potential Ebola case has been admitted to a Miami-area hospital, according to a report. The patient is being treated, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official told WTVJ-TV, though it’s unclear how the person may have contracted the disease. A test in Florida came back negative for Ebola, but the samples have been sent to the CDC in Atlanta to confirm the "negative" results, a spokesperson told the Daily News. The sample was described as "low risk", though results are still pending. The 2014 outbreak of the disease has been the world’s largest, killing nearly 1,900 people. An American doctor who contracted Ebola in Liberia is being treated at a Nebraska hospital, while two other Americans in Africa who contracted the virus later recovered following treatment at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Several possible cases of Ebola, inluding one at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, have been announced at American hospitals since the outbreak began in West Africa late last year.
