Interesting video mrmouse, using radar to track giesers to predict volcanic or tectonic activity. I have never seen anything like that before. Is that credible ??

mrmouse, I wouldn't know where to begin with earthquake survival gear.  Of course we are on the opposite end of the country and have little experience with large earthquakes. Not that we don't have the occasional Appalachian mountain tremors--just nothing like the activity out west.  When I lived out west though, I really liked visiting those areas with all of the ancient volcanoes and lava flows.  I lived on the New Madrid area fault for a couple of years near where the lakes were formed by the 1812 earthquakes. When you look out on these huge lakes which were formed during the earthquake, you think that if this happens again the devastation to human life could be huge.  I am constantly amazed and in awe of the Earth's continuous changes.

Ok, so our little 5.3 quake in the Trinidad area last night did not even make the news since VA happened.

So here I was at 11:49 PM last night and the bed starts shaking. I was fully awake and could not figure out what was causing the shaking that lasted about 10 - 20 seconds. So I thought well either my dear departed husband was sending a message or we had an earthquake. Well it was a quake! Would have preferred my hubby!

Hey Flumom, I saw that, kind of unusual for that area as well. You have had a slew of them over the past week from 2.0 to 5.3 and still going (3.2 today). Were you able to feel the shaking on most of those or just the big one?

Boy they sure made a big deal out of the east coast one!!!

I just felt the big one only and I made note of the time 11:49, official was 11:46. So my clocks are off 3 minutes. It was so strange it was more of a vibration of the whole bed rather than shaking but I am near Denver so we are a long way from Trinidad area.   I never felt any of the other ones.

Yes, no one even mentioned our earthquake and it was just a rare as the east coast. It was not as big but big enough!

Is 2012 coming....will it be a pole shift with quakes?

Poleshift wouldn't cause quakes. Earthquakes are rather shallow in the Earth's crust, while the creamy nougat core is several thousands of miles deep and is what would cause a magnetic shift.

The Pole shift would mostly cause electronic disturbances more than anything else. Oh, and your compass would be in permanent Blue Left Lock.

Thank the Lord it was not a verticle quake.

Here is what our news said,
Experts said Wednesday's quakes did not have the potential to create massive tsunamis because the friction and shaking occurred horizontally, not vertically. The earth's tectonic plates slid against each other, creating more of a vibration in the water.

I don't live in a big quake zone, tornado zone or flood zone. I have tried to avoid all of these.
