I'm not so tech savvy as to get it from my phone to here, but my phone just blasted an emergency notification on my phone asking any and all with healthcare experience to volunteer and notify NYC OEM/HHS if they were willing. |

Desperate times for sure, FluMom. What is more frightening to me is that although our curve is softening, we still haven't peaked yet. |

I think we will be in lock down until June 1 and July 1 for some of the late bloomers in mid America. This as my 97 yr. old Mama says this is a Plague like stated in the Bible. We just have to wait this out and see how many die. I am praying that 100,000 dead is a wrong number but now not sure it could be correct. |

We had that in Illinois as well....my brother (former EMS tech) was notified on his cell phone, but he has severe diabetes and kidney failure and lives full time in a nursing home!! It didn't have to be this way, folks....after 9/11, all hospitals and health departments had extensive bioterrorism preps, and these were augmented for H5N1. However, when nothing happened, politicians grew cocky and diluted the spending. Hospital respirators grew out of date, mask supplies were not replenished, etc. Well, this is the price we pay. Hopefully we'll learn from this, but I doubt it....SARS was a big warning shot in 2003, we should have acted then. A lot of folks who might have been saved will be left to die at home. |

Yep, Cuomo had a chance to purchase 15,000 vents at a good price 3 yrs ago. He decided to purchase something else. So states had a responsibility to purchase a stock for a pandemic not just the federal govt. We have not learned from history so we pay the price. |

I know what you're referring to. And the Conspiracy theory on where the money went. It did not to to illegal aliens or to establish death panels. It went to development of a task force to develop a pandemic plan. At the time, Cuomo's reasoning for not buying 16,000 ventilators was because we didn't have nor projected to have the people to run them. And unless hospitals were willing to hire and maintain staff, which they weren't, it made no sense. But who knew the debacle of procuring such things would become what it is today. Well if they didn't want to pay/train staff at that time, who the heck is operating them now? |

Penham, this is a cluster f**k. We all knew for years that no state and the federal government did not have the vents or PPE to handle a true Pandemic...no one wanted to store that much stuff!!! And then if you do store vents for 10 years or more would the vents work? I don't know but if vents are not stored in a climate controlled area I bet some of the parts would not work right especially hoses, electronics. Then there is the good by date on masks...which I don't pay attention to but the government would throw them out most likely...dumb but government!! The rest of the PPE would be fine in just a regular warehouse. But just the cost of keeping all this stuff "JUST IN CASE" was not worth it to any of our Administrations for the past 30 years! Then yest who is going to run all of these vents...they are not vacuum cleaners these are in peoples lungs and have to be watched day and night. We are so screwed but only this small group of preppers like us, some politicians, medical people, and some powerful people know that this is going to be really bad in the next month. We are at Day 3 of the next 30 days and this is going bad fast!

FluMom, you have no idea how much I wish I could. But from what I've seen, Cuomo developed a plan and is following it. The Pandemic plan for the feds that was developed over three administrations and released in 2016 was set aside with the reasoning it was antiquated. Even if this is a conspiracy theory dreamed up by the media, it is clear to me that Trump is not following any plan but flying by the seat of his pants. |
