Tried some local plants in a salad...dandelion leaves, red clover flowers, wild chives.   Of the three only wild chives makes the grade of pleasant.  The others were a little tough (even if I tried for new growth leaves).  I guess that if the economy goes the way I think it might go then I will need to get used to picking up a few extras from nature.

BTW. Dandelion flowers are great in a lemon-lime marmalade, and in oatmeal cookies.

Dandelion root, roast and ground, make a great coffee substitute.  Great taste - no caffeine.  Bedtime coffee?

I will need to try that. There are some large dandelion plants in the paths in the vegetable garden, but at this stage the shops are showing no signs of shortage of coffee (although the large box of tea I usually buy is out of stock).
