My 72 year old neighbor told me today she was told to isolate herself for awhile?? that she has a mild form of the virus, but they won't test her because she is not running a high fever?? her fever was 100 then a day later went to 99 ..so all is well? Dr. told her to isolate?? I am so confused. This neighbor dropped off some coffee creamer for me (unasked for btw) and we sometimes have had very quick convos distanced such as good morning ....but I did walk her dog last week....Her daughter has her dog now.

My question is does this this sound
real? does she actually have the virus? no test? I think she may exaggerate her illnesses at times...seems like she always has "the flu" so what should I do?

Get tested.  I might wait a few days to do it, but I would get tested. Just in dealing with my dad, I find that the elderly sometimes underplay with covid, because they don't want to be alone.  They don't want to discourage company, even when they know they should.

My dad repeatedly tells me he isn't going anywhere, and the next three things out of his mouth are about eating in a restaurant with friends, going to church, and getting a haircut, (and btw the barber's wife is someone we knew a long time ago and is now a nurse at an assisted living, and she came by to say hello when the barber called her to tell her who was in his chair.) Then, he thinks I'm overreacting by wearing a mask inside his house when I visit for the first time in nearly 4 months.  I tell him our sister facility in his town has had 5 deaths and 16 infections, and I don't want to bring it back to my residents and KILL them.  Sorry for the rant, but how can he be lonely?  He has a much more active social life than I do right now.  Grrr...

Thanks, she does have a husband, so she is lucky he is around for her. But, I just found it all very confusing when she texted me about what was going on.

I know in the past, before Covid, she would tell me periodically that she "had the flu" so a few weeks would go by and then she would say she "had the flu" again...I felt that she said that whenever she wasn't feeling good...so now she has the virus? But no test? I am not sure I believe her.....

I am staying far away for now (not that I wasn't before) but like I said, we had some interaction over the past weeks.

Update: I have come to the conclusion that said neighbor exaggerates illness for some reason. To gain sympathy?

I find it seriously unconscionable for her to tell me that she "has the virus"!

What is a person supposed to do when folks are telling them this and its not true? Anyways...she went to the Library today (texted me) and seems pretty chipper.....was fighting mad about our cable going out yesterday for a few hours (texted me) ....I asked how she was doing and was ignored...LOL...Oh vey, the drama!

I will always maintain proper protocols around others though...still....
