Here in NZ we stopped them 3 weeks ago. They are due to start again this week but access into the country will only be allowed to NZ citizens. Our government has banned permanent residents from returning to NZ from India.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

We've also got thousands of citizens waiting to come back in all over the world. I have friends who've been here for 20 years and have never bothered to become citizens (because it's expensive but the money goes towards the country) and they are only permanent residents. They've always said that that there's no point in paying up and now I suspect they are starting to reconsider their options.......

I must say that Australia has done well.. (and NZ is well ahead of the pack).

Yesterday, Finland's death totals surpassed that of Australia (911 vs 910 deaths)  which has five times the population.   As Finland is near the lower end of Europe's per capita rate, this means that Australia has done very well.   [In fairness, Norway has lower rates than Finland, but other neighbouring countries (Sweden, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) have high rates of cases and deaths.]

The US stopped travel to India today.  We've got two cases of the variant circulating in India in the mid-West.

WitchMisspelled-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineage_B.1.617#Statistics or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineage_B.1.617#Statistics  April 28 statistics show for the US 134 or 115 cases of the B.1.617 variant-proberbly an undercount. The B.1.618 variant from India proberbly is less widespread https://cov-lineages.org/lineages/lineage_B.1.618.html or https://cov-lineages.org/lineages/lineage_B.1.618.html and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variants_of_SARS-CoV-2#Lineage_B.1.618 or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variants_of_SARS-CoV-2#Lineage_B.1.618 maybe two of those showed up in the US Mid-West...

The India variants did get the chance to spread all over the planet-even into China...and may become a problem.

Here in Finland that action would be against the constitution (ie Citizens have the right of return), but it is an interesting move....

Thanks for that, DJ.  News I saw said only two.  And I agree it may become a problem.  I'll hazard to say it will be a problem.

You can bet it will spread and most likely be a problem in about a month when we're trying to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in the US.
