Overwhelmed Hospitals

Hospitals around the US and the World are seeing an influx of patients.

They are coping as best they can.

But it is likely that the standard of care will decline significantly by the end of November in many hospitals. Converted arenas and field hospitals will not be able to provide the same care that a state-of-the-art facility does. That should be obvious.

In addition, although we can always set up more tents, we cannot manufacture new trained health care workers (HCWs). Many of these professionals are already exhausted. Yet, they will be expected to care for a huge increase in patients. There are limits to what any human can do.

Final Death Toll

We have already seen over 200,000 dead Americans from this pandemic. An additional 300,000 over the next 6 months would not be surprising. Depending on how well the various vaccines work and how long they last, I think it is entirely possible that over 1 million Americans will die of SARS-2 infections.

The Deadly Skies

Flying is a safe form of transportation, they say. Statistically, this is correct. You are very unlikely to die in an airplane accident.

There is also some evidence that you are not likely to be infected with SARS-2 when flying, although I am still not sure about this.

But what is indisputable is that passenger travel caused the pandemic to spread around the world. Had this been stopped when we first knew about the virus in China, millions of deaths could have been avoided. Why wasn’t it? Some say the economy.

Well, we didn’t make a serious effort to stop international passenger travel in time. How’s our economy doing? That certainly would not have been a good reason. A few airline executives, concerned about their compensation packages, lobbied governments around the world to keep passenger travel flowing. Look at the results.

Can we convince those in government now and those who may come in to government in the future that we should stop international passenger travel to save millions of lives and our economies? Not sure we can. Those airline company executives are awful persuasive, apparently.

Hi Tabitha 111 welcome back,

Planes cause terrible  damage to the environment, adding vast amounts of greenhouse gases to our planet,

Unfortunately people want to travel,my good friend here wants our hard borders down so he can visit his daughter who lives in another state,(our state has had hard borders for months now no covid here)

I don't think visiting a relative is a good enough reason for putting our economy here at risk,i didn't say anything to my friend, but that is what the world is up against,

The individuals rights against looking after the populous......

"the needs of the many, out way the need of the few".......

Just need covid to get real nasty for the mob to understand,by then it will be to late....

Take care all

Keep safe  😷😉
