Albert,
Is it possible for you to identify members who have not logged on in say the last three months and ask them to update the group on their prepping efforts.

Some people might not want to share that information on a public message board. Others are more open about it. Members should share what they feel comfortable with. That maybe be sharing nothing at all and just reading. We are a great bunch here, but it can be intimidating at times to post on a public message board.

RC,
Perhaps I should have been more clear. My thought was, with all the things in our lives that demand attention, and with the relative fewer news stories about bf, it might be a way of being a gentle reminder that bf is still out there, and continued attention to prepping efforts are still a good idea.

It would seem the monthly "December Prepping," "January Prepping," etc. would meet this need for those choosing to post...

Seriously, pay no attention to RC...so cranky. The truth is, for many of us who have been in the forum for more than a year, we've pretty much prepped just the way you see people talking about it. There's no update, really. I'm prepped for 120 days. That was my intention in the beginning and that will always be my "comfort zone" for prepping. You can obtain very detailed prepping info about what we have stored in the pages of the priority preparations sections. When anyone starts prepping, they generally talk about it a lot. After awhile, we just go to the basement to rotate or check on things and log onto the forum every so often to see what's going on. The basic prep items have remained pretty much the same since I joined in early '06. People have different quantities and levels of prepping, but the basic goods remain the same. |

Legacy, I agree with you. I have been pepping for a long time too. I keep rotating and organizing. Now I have 2 more animals to prep for, Someone gave up to horses in April. At first I was so exctied. Now I'm saying to myself oh my gosh what did I do. Anyway the only thing i can say about them is they eat all day. they are cute ,and now they are part of the family.

I think a more subtle way to state this would be lurking. We have, as on many sites, the silent majority, who prefer to read than post. You might care to compare this those like to keep informed but may feel that putting themselves out there would be akin to writing to the editor in a newspaper that has thousands of readers.
The one thing I have learned on the Internet is that some people are very private, and considering the vast spectrum and types that wander these hallways, online has become very invasive in terms of going beyond the veil of privacy which is very important to some.
Personally, when I post threads, it is nice to see comments or more data posted, but sometimes even if no one at all posts, yet at least a hundred or so, and sometimes thousands read, I feel it was worth my time sharing a topic or information.
One this I also do in private life is help people clean up the trash on their computers, the invasive spyware, viruses, keyloggers, etc. I have even posted a way to have a look at who is spying on you on your computer. Giving your email for instance on a chat board when the bots come through mining private information can ruin an email account as I have several ruined by junk mail. These I have had for years, because the names are precious and I got them when there were fewer users, and you could not get them anymore. So I put up with thousands of emails a day, which have to be filtered, bounced, and dealt with.
For many, privacy is a gift on the internet. They do not wish their visits to be recorded, their information to be shared any more than they choose. You might like to know, that people can read posts, and visit cloaked, which means that read numbers do not always reflect how many people are looking.
Enjoy the privacy, or at least the illusioin of privacy people believe themselves to have on the Internet. Like Logan, in Logan's run heard from the computer in the movie- there is no sanctuary- and with the new data mining project and monitors in place as you go online- there is no reasonable expectation of privacy on the Internet. Your mail - not just the headers- what your dog eats- where you shop- and a nice little satellite photo of where you live is availablle to those in the inner circle in minutes. In fact, as in 24 hours your little infra red cell can be monitored walking around and your conversations can be picked up off your window pane. You can be located in seconds by the cell phone you carry.
Let people have the illusion of privacy. There is none anymore.

Hi abeamreach, the answer is, Possibly.....
We've been wanting to send out an email blast to all of the members for quite some time to try and drum up some more traffic, and participation. We even talked about creating a newsletter. The problem is, if we send a mass email, ISP companies such as AOL will read the email campaign as spam and they will immediately shut down our hosting company from using AOL, etc .... The two ways around this is either to get what is called "white listed" with the various ISP providers, or, we would need to create a new program that would enable us to export all emails onto a format that we could give to a 3rd party company that regularly send email blasts. In order to create a program to generate a list of emails, I would have to pay money to our computer guys. Having said that, I can try to get a price on doing the job and we can see if it's worth it.
Now, there probably wouldn't be a problem asking people in the email campaign to stop by and give us an update, and their latest prepping tips.

And who, exactly. are you to post a response to an innocent question with such a sarcastic, condescending reply such as "It's none of your business"? Really....you need to take it down a notch, man...
