Scientists from the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg, Manitoba, have completed the first genetic sequencing of the swine flu virus.

The genetic sequencing of the Canadian scientists has found that the genetic code of H1N1 flu cases found in Canada and Mexico match, the Globe and Mail has reported.

Thus, mutation has been ruled out as an explanation of the severity of swine flu cases in Mexico.

All of Canada's 165 H1N1 flu cases have been mild, while of the 1 070 cases of swine flu in Mexico, 46 have resulted in death.
