Two Thais who returned from Mexico were infected with swine flu but they have since recovered, Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai said on Tuesday. Tests done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States on samples taken from the two Thai travellers confirmed they had the A(H1N1) virus, he told a press conference in Bangkok. In the first case the patient had a mild fever after returning from a visit to Mexico. The second patient exhibited similar symptoms, also after travelling to Mexico, the minister said. Both had fully recovered after a course of antiviral medication, he said. Mr Witthaya said there was currently no swine flu infection in Thailand. Medical authorities were keeping a watch on three people who had been in contact with the first person and five people in contact with the second patient. None had shown signs of infection. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced the first confirmed case of A(H1N1) flu infection inThailand, saying the patient had "fully recovered and has returned home". The announcements came just days after health ministers from Asean nations attended a major conference on swine flu in Bangkok. Thailand is the 31st country in the world to confirm cases of the virus. Medcliniciancomment: Thought I had posted this already but did not come on the search |
