Welcome Jan, I have stocked up on Musinex because liquid Guiafenesin goes out of the system quickly (Robitussin I) but time release is available in MUCINEX tablets. Drink plenty of water to encourage proper lung tissue hydration. God bless!  Annie

I read the pharmacology on this product...it contains microcrystalline cellulose......which is 'powder' as in baby powder...it has been found in cancers of the bowel...as it does not biodegrade in the body....I learned this in first year registered nursing school and in my work in Pathology...it's found in shredded cheeses and grated packaged products.......I would be cautious with ingesting any product containing   microcrystalline cellulose. .....I have written letters to the FDA about this additive for years.....I am a lable reader and a histochemist.....and I choose to be aware of what goes into my body...I do not understand the FDA allowing this additive in edibles.....Jan

Microcrystalline Cellulose is a naturally occurring substance, it has proven to be stable, safe and physiologically inert.

Dustless baby powder
Document Type and Number:
United States Patent 5747007

Abstract:
A compacted baby powder formulation combines an absorbent with a dry compression agent and a liquid or semi-solid material. The resulting formulation reduces the amount of dispersion of the powdered absorbent. The absorbent can be either an organic or non-organic such as corn starch or talc, respectively. The compression agent can be a microcrystalline cellulose or polyethylene. The liquid or semi-solid can be a ester such as a jojoba ester. The formulation can be augmented with additional additives to provide skin protectant, lubricant or anti-septic benefits.

Yes, this is correct. I did not request a citation for Dustless Baby Powder. You should understand that inhalation of traditional baby powder is a threat to a baby's health, a dustless baby powder is a better alternative.

"Accidental inhalation often occurs when the baby handles or plays with the powder container since it is shaped like a baby bottle. Incidental inhalation of small amounts of powder during regular diaper changes can also affect an infant's lungs," Dustless Baby Powder solves this problem. Since you have reintroduced the subject:

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME ON CHEMICAL SAFETY

        WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION

        SAFETY EVALUATION OF CERTAIN
        FOOD ADDITIVES AND CONTAMINANTS

        WHO FOOD ADDITIVES SERIES 40

        Prepared by:
The forty-ninth meeting of the Joint FAO/WHO Expert
          Committee on Food Additives (JECFA)

        World Health Organization, Geneva 1998

    MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE

    First draft prepared
    by Dr J.B. Greig
    Department of Health,
Skipton House, 80 London Road, London, SE1 6LW, UK

**************************************************

4.  EVALUATION

The Committee concluded that the toxicological data from humans
and animals provided no evidence that the ingestion of
microcrystalline cellulose can cause toxic effects in humans when used
in foods according to good manufacturing practice......?????

It is recognized that small particles of other materials may be
persorbed and that the extent of persorption is greater with
sub-micrometre particles. Despite the absence of any demonstrated
persorption of microcrystalline cellulose in the recent study in rats,
the Committee, as a precautionary measure, revised the specifications
for microcrystalline cellulose at the present meeting to limit the
content of particles less than 5 µm in diameter
. The Committee
retained the ADI "not specified" for microcrystalline cellulose
    conforming to these specifications.

If you are going to go throwing around biblical scripture, it might add (or not) to your credibility if you acted in a manner that is conducive to being a "good" Christian. Verbal attacks to your fellow man are not a good example of this.

being attacked by another member during a  helpful response, like I was first, is not conducive to what we are here for on this site., go back and read the notes on here..........use your time constructively, and tend to the virus at hand here.......being christian has nothing to do with not taking 'guff' when giving a helpful response as a member and medical info person..........YOU NEED TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO  DO WITH YOUR SPARE TIME........

Americans on here do realize that you live in a Nation of religous freedom and that is protected by the constitution's first amendment. As such, everyone should be accustomed to the reality that we will hear one another speaking and acting as we are and it is not a real threat to anyone who does not agree.

Rudeness and trying to shut down this freedom or demeaning a person's value because they don't beleive as you do and or trying to establish a society where people have to hide who they are in fear of your intolerance or to please you, causes undo suppression, tension and division where it does not even belong. It is an absense of freedom.

Atheists are free to be such and so are Christians, etc. Atheists do not have to hide their refusal to say God and Christian don't have to avoid the word of God to please atheists. Being atheist does not make you smarter or better than someone who beleives in God in a constitutional public culture. The same with being Christian.

The only thriving choice for a people of freedom is learning to accept we live with people of differing beleif structures and that is much better than living in a nation where everyone is forced into the box of atheism (socialist countries) or Islam (Iran, ie). Shouting down and disrespecting people who are different from you in beleif is anti-freedom impulse and has been promted and forced into the culture by the authoritarian Leftists in our country for the purpose of creating a socialist culture in opposition to our people's culture which should always be evolving to accomodate and accept the constitutional freedoms of one another - especially when we disagree.

Healing and Christian religion or beleif in God, go hand in hand for most Americans (70% identify themselves as Christians) and it does not offend people who respect a constitutional ideal of freedom and diversity that travels beyond the skin of a human being and into tolerating differing ideas and opinions to accomodate the first amendment.

Beleif in God does mean the socialist slogan that people are stupid. My nephew is a neurosurgeon and God knows, he is not stupid. He prays for God's wisdom, calmness and aid before every operation he performs. The doctors and nurses and his medical students around him know what he is doing and none of them feel the need to panic or tell him he is stupid or threatening their atheism because he dares to pray in a medical environment. "Stupid people" like him are hard to come by as people from all over the world show up to commit their bodies to his intellegence, skill, love and care. Also, medical students - many of them atheists - stand in line to follow him around because atheists are not stupid either.

can we move the religious discussion to another thread and get back to the topic at hand? i'd really like to talk about the projected numbers for the fall.

it demeans everybody when someone starts a sectarian fight. save it for the pub.

What'll happen in the fall is anybody's guess, but even if H1N1 doesn't reassort it's still shown itself to be a tough little virus - at least tough enough to make it around the world outside of the flu season in the northern hemisphere. We can probably expect a pretty bad flu season, if nothing else. Remember how the Brisbaine strains sideswiped us a while back and sickened a lot more people than usual? It wouldn't have to be too bad to make our lives miserable for the duration. But if it does come back with a vengeance, you'd better make sure your preps are up to snuff.

That is why I went to #10 can dry food for the majority of my preps... the teen will not eat that! LOL! I hope we never need this stuff I have dumped a bunch of money on!

I don't know if vinegar works this way. Does anyone know?....

remember that grade-school experiment? a chicken leg bone into a jar full of vinegar. we kept ours on the teacher's desk. two weeks, the thing would bend like a rubber band. that's leaching.
