Just thought this was interesting. We went prepping as usual on Sat. and went to buy rechargable 'D' batteries. Guess what? None in the following stores: Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Lowes. Finally found some at Radio Shack - 3 pckgs. of 2. I did order some more to be sent to house at no del. charge. Seems there is a run on 'D' cells. Is something goin' on? We're in Fl. and it's not even close to Hurricane season. Anyone else having a problem with rechargable batts? |

I was actually going to go out this weekend to buy some rechargable D
batteries. (I got a new radio/flashlight on Friday) I never
thought that I might have a problem getting rechargable batteries.
I'll let you know tomorrow. |

You should use cr123 lithium batteries they have a ten year shelf life and are the battery that powers all SureFire Flashlights. Check out their web at www.surefire.com also use crank radios that require no batteries. D cell batteries are expensive and dont last long they are also large and heavy compared to cr123 Lithium. |

Sure2Survive - Good Idea! Bought lithiums for night sights and smoke detectors. If your life depends on a battery you certainly want lithium. We want rechargable batts. as a fan in fl. would be nice on a hot sweltering 95' F. night. Bought some fans that will run 48hrs. (on low) on 4 'D' cells. that would be about 4+ nights. Found them at camping section of Target. They also have 5 diodes for a reading light. 'Cool' - I hope. Can charge them with a solar charger (get at boating store) or new combination 12vDC/115VAC NiCad charger - availabe at Walmart. Also use batts for flashlight and once they quit charging can throw them at nasty people if they are outside of spear throwing range. That's if they make it past the catapault. |

MM I made a cooler A/C... cut 2 holes in the lid of a coleman type cooler..place 4 d batt fan face down...ice in cooler (block)....boom...cool air out other side. It only drops the temp in a 9x10 room about 5 degrees but better than the hot as hell night. Of course no ice no air. -K |

Well - to be honest - I was schooled under Secret Agent Maxwell Smart and Agent 99. My credentials speak for themselves. Sometimes the best defense is a good offense. And in all probablity most altercations are going to occur at night. That's when the real 'Spooks' will be about. Iron sights in the pitch black are about as good as aiming a stick. A nice red dot scope is very affordable ($30) and nice if you need to slip out the back Jack - while someone is breaking in the front, or vice versa. Might be better than a direct confrontation. Buy some time to see what's going on. Take care of the situation on my terms and not theirs. Of course the wife would have to be quick about it also. Vacate - locate - make a plan - terminate being an option. In the Navy they teach you to always have an exit strategy. Don't get caught in a corner. I've got a cheap gen1 Russian night scope but the optics suck. But better than nothing. Would love a gen3 rifle scope but can't afford it. Also bought some 12V driveway monitors which I will locate around the house - transmit distance 1,000' but they only cover a 30' range. Will use fishing line also. Then there's the three dogs. Hope we wake up in time to have plans work instead of Keystone Kop scenerio at the OK Corral. WHO will self-implode when this goes H2H. Congress will yell and scream at each other, Bush & Cheney will be in hiding at the Underground White House in Wyoming - and the military will be trying to maintain order as the cities riot one after the other. A real cluster f$%k. As to suitcase nukes - I feel that there are already a sufficient number of them strategically placed around the US by the Chinese so when they invade Tiawan and if we raise a stink - Some of our cities go Boom! Boom! Boom! and we don't know who to blame. Total chaos. (this is just my imagination running wild) But - the Chinese do control the port in Long Beach - and just how many conatiners - containing who knows what - have made it who knows where inside the US. Isn't it a little suspicious that the Chinese inspect 100% of the containers entering Chinese ports. Do they know something we don't. A problem defined is a problem half solved. |

stormriderfla - good idea. Seems like FEMA is great during hurricane season running around and throwing bags of ice at people. so that takes care of the supply side.

You are so right about US Ports being run by China or any other country. They closed down the only naval base left that could repair or build or refit our navel ships in the continetal US and gave it to the China. Wasn't that under Clinton? Why wasn't there a China-gate about that. Maybe the news media might have a bias?
