My sister had a great idea today. What if say Costco and Sam's Club had a guy at the enterance to the store who could hand out information on Pandemic Preparation. Coversheet could have quotes from Gov't agencies etc and the next page could have "ideas" for supplies. Then as a customer walked through the store any items on the list could have a great big red arrow indicating that it was on the list. What a win-win situation. The store would increase their sales ($$$!) and people might actually start doing some serious thinking and prepping! They could sell thousands of water purification kits, hand crank radios... who knows what else. Company makes alot of money. People Prepare. Win-Win in my book. I'm going to email the idea to both companies.... bet if enough people cram their inboxes with the same idea they'll take notice. So if you think this is a good idea..... email them! John.

I am sure the evil geniuses at Wal-Mart are just waiting for the right time to do this. They are probably chomping at the bit to be "Your Bird Flu Headquarters"
Unless of course the pandemic hits China hard and all of a sudden Wal-Mart has no cheap junk to sell. |

Surely these stores have already agreed NOT to say anything at all about the pandemic. I thought that this was generally understood. Nothing here in the U.K. and nothing, to my knowledge in Europe or Aus. |

Interesting point Scotty They must of some type of agreement because I cant think of any reason the marketing guys wouldn't be all over this . never the less my biggest fear (well one of them) is the panic buying and the fear that would cause . I am terrified of the panic and while I really know I want everyone I know to be prepared but not till I'm ready and yes that selfish but who here is really ready for that to happen. is everyone bought all they need to last ten months if this thing is bad. Once the panic buying starts what you and your loved ones need will be hard to get and twice the price . |

I believe that the U.K. government had a meeting with all of our major food retailers about eight months ago. The published reason was to arrange for these retailers to carry more stocks in their warehouses. I imagine that these retailers were reminded of their duty, warned that they would be first strike targets and told that the government would PROBABLY be able to arrange for special protection. (talk softly and carry a big stick) My best guess is that the supermarkets will cope quite easily with the first wave of panic. They will remain open and restock their empty shelves with perishables that deter bulk purchase and reassure the public. I won't bore you with the details but it would be an error to assume that these people are idiots. |
