Ok so when will they quit letting Trump go out into these big crowds?  He can get the virus too.  They will have to isolate him and his family.  Any bets on this one?

It’s an election year so add that to the myriad other issues that will make this a mess. My guess is that the pols will continue to get out and stump at rallies etc. until they can say that the risk to their constituents is too great for them to gather. Perhaps May? I’m certain their campaign managers remember what happened to McCain in ‘08 when he suspended his campaign to go save the economy.

I wonder who will be brave enough to be the first? My guess is the President since he can say that the NIH and CDC have urged him to put public health above politics but what do I know

I thought about that, too, and a reporter asked him about it in Saturday's briefing.

It's a good question, because of course, this is an election season, and his rallies have been spectacles and important to rally the base. I'd go if he'd come to CA, but I highly doubt he would, and not because of COVID-19. It's simply an Electoral College calculation.  I'm sure it would be an important issue for Trump, as he loves the rallies.

He might appear by video screen, and rallies held nonetheless, and be big parties. However, I foresee large gatherings being discouraged, if not actually prohibited (like France, others) fairly soon (1-2 months).

Bernie came to San Jose today, despite a fairly clear, albeit probably low, risk of potential infection. Wait a few weeks to see if any campaign workers become ill (I hope not - don't want ANYONE to get this!!). More than likely if anyone attended who actually WAS infectious, would give it to more than a few others there. Take a look:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYTuBf4yolU

There was a reference to CV by one politician at 1:50:39 ..."And if the coronavirus, in which another case was detected today in Santa Clara County, teaches us anything, it's that we are only as safe as the least insured among us"

BWAHHAAA. Uh, no, IDIOT. If the coronavirus teaches us anything (like it SHOULD HAVE by watching CHINA), is don't have large gatherings of people in an area of ongoing local transmission!

Wow! Amazing. Amazingly stupid.

Ok, what do you think the odds are that at least one person in that crowd will later be diagnosed with COVID-19, and discovered to have attended the rally before becoming symptomatic?

The trouble is he can't say one thing and do another. The official line in the US at the  moment is it's not that bad. Earlier today all Americans were told to stop buying masks and that they didn't need them and if they keep buying them, health professionals won't have enough of them and so will be at risk. America's chosen to keep the economy going at all costs rather than to protect it's people and if the president suddenly stops going out, other people will sit up and think maybe we should stay home too. It's a tricky one.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

I agree with you.  Sorry but the ”People do not know how to wear a mask or how to take it off“ mantra from the government is BS.  YouTube has all of that and more.  Anyway I purchased my masks long before this event been stored in a very dry cool basement in a cabinet.   The govt need the masks for the medical people but if I have to go out when it is bad I will be fully suited up goggled and masked.

Trump is going to ride a fine line on this one and Bernie has a bad heart so if he gets it he will be in a bad way.  This will be interesting!

You're absolutely right about the BS. If medical personel are at risk if they don't have masks then so are ordinary people. The other day in the supermarket a woman leaned in on me to get something from the shelf I was by and she got so close I could feel the warmth of her breath on my face and smell her bad breath. And then, in the same shop, I helped an old woman in front of me who dropped her credit card. I picked it up and passed it to her and she fumbled trying to take it from my hand and her damp fingers brushed over mine. And they were really damp. I'd have been a lot safer in a mask and gloves.

It's the just in time stock control system starting to fail. The surgeries and hospitals just don't carry stock. I wonder if they'll start accusing people of hoarding and confiscating them?

trump will be the first to avoid the public, only because he is well known as a germaphobe, and has stated that multiple times.

Biden,Bernie and Bloomberg all are risk for Covi19.  Any and all of them need to decide when they quit going out in public also.
