Circumstantial evidence for unnatural release of SARS-2 in China

Definitive evidence that the pandemic caused by SARS-2 is unnatural would require one of two things:

1. Unequivocal signs of artificial sequence in the virus or

2. Whistle-blowing by a Chinese scientist or official.

Although some scientists believe that such artificial sequences have been demonstrated. Other scientists are not convinced. Hence, there is no consensus on this issue. At this time, no Chinese scientist or official has come right out and said that SARS-2 is unnatural. So, no direct evidence for this hypothesis at this time.

However, the circumstantial evidence for something unnatural happening in China is increasing. As I have pointed out before:

1. China has an aggressive biological weapons program.

2. These biological weapons are most likely being developed in the Wuhan BSL-4 facility.

3. The SARS-2 pandemic started in Wuhan.

4. Chinese labs have a history of leaks of dangerous viruses.

5. Xi Jinping has repeatedly lied about the risks posed by SARS-2.

6. Xi Jinping will not permit American scientists to investigate the origins of the virus.

To this list we can add the following:

7. Cover-up in Beijing - Part 1. Xi Jinping was alerted to the presence of SARS-2 in December by Chinese genomics companies. He ordered them to destroy the samples and not say anything about the virus.

8. Cover-up in Beijing - Part 2. The Chinese lab (in Shanghai) that first sequenced SARS-2 was ordered to close by Xi Jinping. This severely hampers China's ability to fight the virus. No reason for the lab closure has been given.

Given incomplete data and the terrible consequences of coming to the wrong conclusion about the origins of SARS-2, which "frame", as Scott Adams puts it, fits these facts the best?

The frame that says the pandemic caused by SARS-2 is natural? Or the frame that says it is unnatural?

Incompetence at the CDC

It gives me no pleasure to write this.

I know that there are some scientists at the CDC who are dedicated and hardworking. But the CDC as a whole has done a disastrously poor job at responding to the SARS-2 pandemic in the United States. Specific individuals, including senior leadership, need to take responsibility and resign, in my opinion.

Item: CDC has mislead decision makers into thinking that fever "screening" is the same as testing for the coronavirus. They know that this "screening" is worthless.

Item: CDC criteria for who should be tested for coronavirus was overly strict and led to missing carriers who later infected others, including health care workers.

Item: CDC tests for coronavirus were defective. There is no reason for this. There are companies that produce real time PCR reagents cheaply and quickly with high quality. It is very routine for scientists to use sequence information and get these companies to make the reagents. There is no excuse for the long time between the availability of SARS-2 sequence and the availability of an adequate number of tests.

Item: CDC quarantine procedures at Travis Air Force Base likely failed.

Item: CDC released a patient in San Antonio who was later shown to be infected with SARS-2.

Item: CDC won't release critical information about SARS-2 infection in US patients.

The excuses given by CDC officials for these many failures should not be accepted. If they do not resign, they should be fired. We need competent leadership at the CDC. The lives of the American people depend on it.

It's not too late to close our borders

I find it a bit odd, given who the President is, to have to argue this point.

The only way to protect the American people from this virus is to close our borders. It can be done by banning ALL passenger traffic at air or sea ports. We cannot assume that any country is safe from this virus. Just because a country does not report cases doesn't mean they don't have them.

Objection # 1: We need supplies from other countries.

Answer: Vital supplies can be delivered via cargo ships with careful procedures to prevent workers from overseas mixing with Americans.

Objection #2: It's too late to close our borders. The virus is everywhere.

Answer: Many SARS-2 infections will be discovered this week due to increased testing. This is a good thing, not a bad thing. Since testing is cheap and easy, we can do massive amounts of it to find the infected and quarantine them. This will drastically reduce the number of new cases.

Objection #3: Closing our borders will wreck the American economy.

Answer: Closing our borders will cause the stock market to go down and will likely severely impact many companies. But it won't wreck our economy. Letting the virus rip and spread uncontrolled in the US will wreck our economy, however, and for a long time. We would all prefer having a good choice and a bad choice. That makes choosing easy. But sometimes you only have a bad choice and worse choice.

That is the situation we are in now. While this pandemic rages, economies all over the world are going to suffer badly. There is nothing we can do to stop this. But once the pandemic is over, some countries will be better positioned to rebound and thrive than others. The ones where the public has confidence that the leadership of their countries cares about them will do better than ones where the public was lied to and died as a result. You cannot have a good economy with social instability. And social stability requires public confidence in leadership.
