So today for the first time social distancing got a lot of media attention. A bunch of events have been cancelled all across the country, including in my state. Many companies instructing their people to work from home. NBA season on hold. Flatten the curve going viral, so I think that the importance of slowing down the spread reached the mainstream of people. And, I realized just now that there is a lot of room for interpretation in there. As we've talked about SIP here, most of us are talking about extremely few times that we plan to leave our home in the upcoming month or two or three or four or whatever. But I just got the invitation to our weekly volleyball game (I watch my dad play) which is starting up again for the first time since October, followed by dinner afterwards at what will be a very crowded restaurant because tourists are already here on spring break. A group of maybe eight to 10 people, but in a public park with lots of people and then a crowded restaurant with lots of people. I'm biased, so I honestly want to know whether any of you consider that social distancing? Does that minimize contact enough to slow the spread down enough at this late stage? It's obviously not the best way to protect yourself, but for the purposes of what the world needs does it qualify? |

I am likely not the right person to answer - but my take on it... I would think a walk the park by yourself or sitting in a bleacher watching a game (as far from other spectators as possible) might qualify but the crowded restaurant is for sure no... but I'm joe schmoe from the middle of nowhere (with no medical training) so... take this answer with a grain of salt! LOL What did that study posted earlier today show - 4.5 meters of 'clearance' needed to actually avoid? |

IMO the restaurant is a no go. In the park you can fairly easily manage a meter or two distance from the people around you but a restaurant is a different animal. Enclosed space, trapped air, and dozens of strangers breathing and touching etc. Personally I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone I care about and that includes my digital family. |

Definitely not the restaurant. If it was me, I would try to watch the game from my car if that's possible. |

Thanks for the responses, GREATLY appreciated. I just emailed everyone with the recommendation to skip the restaurant, we'll see what they do. I'm definitely not going to the restaurant, and probably will skip volleyball too. That spidey-sense is telling me not to go. I hope it's cancelled because I don't want my Dad going either. |
