This is sad news, showing the serious effect of spreading falsehoods.   Also sad is how the couple bounced from one conspiracy to another taking in the latest idea to replace previously held ideas (it seems that they had not be taught how to think logically about what they heard and just responded emotionally to the latest thing they read).

Originally posted by "BBC" "BBC" wrote:

A Florida taxi driver, who believed false claims that coronavirus was a hoax, has lost his wife to Covid-19.

Brian Lee Hitchens and his wife, Erin, had read claims online that the virus was fabricated, linked to 5G or similar to the flu.

The couple didn't follow health guidance or seek help when they fell ill in early May. Brian recovered but his 46-year-old wife became critically ill and died this month from heart problems linked to the virus.

[......]

Erin, a pastor in Florida, had existing health problems - she suffered from asthma and a sleeping disorder.

Her husband explained that the couple did not follow health guidance at the start of the pandemic because of the false claims they had seen online.

Brian continued to work as a taxi driver and to collect his wife's medicine without observing social distancing rules or wearing a mask.

They had also failed to seek help as soon as possible when they fell ill in May and were both subsequently diagnosed with Covid-19.

[.....]

Brian said he and his wife didn't have one firm belief about Covid-19. Instead, they switched between thinking the virus was a hoax, linked to 5G technology, or a real, but mild ailment. They came across these theories on Facebook.

"We thought the government was using it to distract us," Brian explained, "or it was to do with 5G."

That's sad.  Had that man and his wife exercised critical thinking skills instead of buying into conspiracy theory she might be alive today.

^What is scary is how many people got sick and maybe died because he did that.^

I was on Albert's facebook page last night.  I was quite rude to another poster (not Albert).  I have so completely had my fill of idiots downplaying this disease, I am having a job remaining civil!  Usually Darwin awards just take out the idiot!

I know: "You can't fix stupid!" but I'm grinding my teeth away.

How do you tell if a politician is lying?

Techno, this is why if it isn't happening in the northeast region, I just don't pay attention anymore.  To my mind it's sort of like the people of Iowa after they realized no Federal help was coming after the derecho.  This is what you listened to and voted for, this is what you get.

I did not know what a derecho was.  I had to look it up.

Thank you Witchy!  Every day's a school day.

I feel you, Techno.  If these people kept their stupid on their side of 6 feet away, that would be fine, but they walk around spreading their microbes along with their stupid.  I don't want to be the person that catches the microbes.  And these people are b!t¢hing they have rights.  Fine and dandy, you have rights!  But I do too, and your rights stop 6 ft. away from me!
