Quote Peru has more than doubled its Covid death toll following a review, making it the country with the world's highest death rate per capita, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

The official death toll now sits at more than 180,000, up from 69,342.

Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez told reporters that the number was raised on the advice of Peruvian and international experts.

This was in line with so-called excess deaths figures.

I see that they are going for something close to excess deaths.

This revision has not yet made it to Worldometers (  https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ ), but then neither has the Mexico revision (up by 60% which I reported here https://avianflutalk.com/mexico-revises-death-count-up-60_topic43836.html ). I also see the John Hopkins is also not showing the revision ( https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/region/peru )

I wonder if we will see more of this announcing large revisions that don't make it to the official statisitics (with their very narrow definition of what covid deaths is).

Wednesday evening where I am, and I have just logged onto Worldometers and they now have the adjusted figures for Peru.

These are reported at 5,526 deaths /million, with the country in second place, Hungary, at 3,089 deaths / million.

It would be good if other countries followed Peru's lead in not hidding the bad situations they find themselves in.

While all eyes were focused on Peru's huge revision of deaths, I noticed in today's figures from Worldometers that Mexico also included backdated information for over 4,000 extra deaths (today's total is 300+ so this is a significant adjustment of the data).

It would be welcome if there is an international clear definition of Covid-death. Now countries make up their own definition...still due to lack of testing/reporting most cases proberbly never will get included in official statistics-maybe as "excess deaths"...at best.

When you look at the Spanish Flu pandemic-"1918" (timeline open for discussion) numbers go between 20 million and 100 million...2 tot 5% of global population...Worldwide this pandemic is far from over-many "rich countries" with large scale vaccinations expect autumn/fall this year to bring another "increase"...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
