Those in the US probably know of Montel Williams. He just posted this yesterday.  He lives in Florida.

There's more detail in the youtube video... he went to get an antibody test at a lab that required masks, someone walked in behind him without a mask, got really close to him, Montel immediately moved away thinking "he doesn't look right", Montel was MASKED, he got home and 2 hours later started feeling weird. Slowly increased over the next few days, so he got tested and is positive.

In the video: Hasn't been anywhere, hasn't done anything because he knew he was high risk. Was thinking of traveling so went for antibody test to be sure he was protected. Progression from Tuesday night: sneezing, Wed am headache, temperature up, feeling like he got a cold, tylenol got rid of headache, fever higher Thursday, tylenol brought down fever, but still thought it was a cold, Thursday night - didn't feel right and went to take a test. Did rapid test and PCR test. Rapid test was positive Thursday night, PCR test positive)

- His antibody test came back showing he had antibodies.

- He is immune compromised (MS)

- He was wearing a mask

- This was his *only* opportunity for exposure

- Symptoms started hours after exposure! (I know this is anecdotal, but it's believable how he presents it)

- Telling everyone to get vaccinated because if he hadn't been it would be much worse.

=========================
His post:

I have been extremely cautious, especially given my auto immune disease, but was recently not feeling well, and sure enough, was diagnosed with COVID despite having been vaccinated. The good news is that for most people, if you do still contract the virus, it is a much more mild case. I feel like I have a bad case of the flu and am grateful I was vaccinated. No matter what you’ve heard, Covid is no joke!!
I hope people understand, unless we all agree to get vaccinated, we risk our species future existence. We’re only one mutation/variation away from a variant that’s so vaccine resistant it could end mankind. Don’t get vaccinated for yourself, get vaccinated for your children and human existence.

Youtube video (worth watching because of the detail he goes into) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geg820_fmQo

My questions:

What type of mask was he wearing?
Did this maybe infect him through his eyes? With the higher viral load of Delta I suspect that might start happening. ????

Contrary to popular belief, masks don't protect the wearer very much.  They are much better at protecting everyone from the wearer.

N95, FFP3 and can offer quite good protection for the wearer, but not complete even then.  You have to put them on and take them off properly as well and few people are disciplined and educated enough to do so.

Wearing masks (even a flimsy bit of tissue) does reduce viral load, so it is a great adjunct to the vaccine.  The vaccine teaches your system what to do, the mask buys it enough time to do it.

Agreed. Hence the '95' in the names.   I did post and ask what type of mask he was wearing, though I doubt I'll get a response.

Most of last year I was wearing a N95 mask w/vent that expels a small amount of air downward (much easier with my asthma), procedure mask over it - to protect others, with a face shield.  The only thing I changed was taking off the shield and wearing a surgical mask over the N95 instead of a procedure mask.  Looks like I'm going back to the shield.

Well, I guess it is time to go back ahd wear a mask and even this may not work.  The time has come to break out  the tyvek suits again.  This is the third wave of covid now.  Vaccine may not work now iin some cases.

I haven't seen anything published, so  this is just fyi for y'all to be able to consider when protecting yourself.

A reliable source of info just told me they're working with the assumption it can be transmitted within 15 feet, and to toss the 6 foot rule out the window.

But, also reading articles that with the higher viral load there are more particles to hang in the air, so just going in after someone contagious has been in a place - with no direct contact at all - is enough to get it. And in seconds, not minutes of exposure.

Of course, many of us have knew it was airborne all last year, but with 1000 times the viral load... UGH.

I'm amazed that some people think the masks they are wearing will offer then any protection at all. Have you seen the masks being worn by the Australian Olympic Swimming team? They are tiny, they don't fit, they are gaping all over the place but on the plus side, they are green and yellow!

In the main, mask wearing is virtue signalling. As Techno said, most people have no idea how to wear a mask or how to handle it properly. It's all virtue signalling.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

Yeah, my Dad and stepmom handle their masks the wrong way.  I've seen a ton of people that wear it without squishing the metal nose loop down across their nose leaving gaps, etc.

I handle mine correctly, and while not professionally fit tested I'm sure mine would pass. Obviously not the surgical masks I wear out to the mailbox, but when I go to the store.

But yeah, I hadn't really thought about the impact of the majority of people wearing their masks wrong.

We're screwed.

I guess we need to stop worrying about what other people are doing and just make sure that we're protecting ourselves as much as we can. I'm happy to wear a mask in situations where it makes other people feel protected, and I'll wear one if I feel unsafe, but other than that, I won't wear one.

It seems we're seeing mask wearing going from one extreme to another and I still laugh when I see someone wearing one just over their mouth and not their nose, or better still, on their chin with mouth and nose uncovered. But my absolute favourite is the person driving a car on their own and still wearing a mask. I can only assume they wear one in their own home as well. It's madness.

Umm, info re: wearing masks in a car.

I've done it frequently, when I'm going from one errand straight to another and it will only be a few minutes. Since I always group my errands on the same day I end up wearing one in the car a lot.

It's safer then handling the mask to take it off then put it right back on.  And since I wear one from my car to my apartment I'll keep in on if I'm headed home for the same reason.

Montel Williams does NOT have ALS, he has MS which is completely different than ALS. Still it can be immune comprimising if you use certain drugs to treat it. I have MS, yet I am on zero therapies. I can run and walk great, you would not know I had MS unless I told you. I am one of the lucky ones and some neurologists have told me that my MS "burned itself out" years ago, since my MRI shows only one brain lesion since 2006.

You're right, I just mistyped. My cousin has ALS so that's why it came out instead.

My kids have shown up at home after a long day at work still wearing a mask.  They have gotten so comfortable wearing them that they forget that they have them on. They do take them off at home, but sometimes I have to remind them that they have it on.

Here’s the thing, not everything you see someone doing has a well thought out reason.  The person going into a store without a mask even though masks are mandated?  Maybe they believe in masks but just forgot.  The person wearing a mask while driving alone, maybe they also forgot.  We are all human and far from the perfect ideal we wish we were.
