Uh, yeah! Thanks! If you get COVID and haven't been vaccinated, you are at serious risk of permanent lung damage, kidney failure, heart/circulatory damage and neurological effects. Why people are SO afraid of these vaccines puzzle me - some vaccines like Smallpox are especially nasty, but not COVID. |

https://www.moonofalabama.org/2021/09/why-you-should-get-vaccinated-but-dont-need-a-third-shot.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2021/09/why-you-should-get-vaccinated-but-dont-need-a-third-shot.html ; There were again a number of misleading comments about Covid-19 in yesterday's open thread. I have deleted a dozen or so of those. It doesn't help that the media are currently back at bad reporting about the various vaccine issues. Here are some clarifications about the current situation: Q: Why do people who were vaccinated still get Covid-19? A: The vaccines are not giving a 'sterilizing immunity'. They were not designed for that and never promised to do so. What the vaccines do in fairy reasonable quality is to prepare the body to fight Covid-19 early and effectively. Nearly all people who got vaccinated will be protected from a severe progression of the disease. Q: If the vaccine does not protect me from getting Covid-19 why should I still take one? A: SARS-CoV-2, which causes Convid-19, is a new virus and our bodies are not prepared to fight it. The vaccines, by looking like a part of the virus, are teaching the body to fight the real virus. Once that is done special cells in our bodies will remember that fight. As soon as they detect a real infection they will be ready to attack it. Q: But would that not also happen if just get infected by SARS-CoV-2 without being vaccinated? A: Yes it would. But the speed at which the body can fight the virus is much slower in unvaccinated people. Speed is of great importance here. Remember that the Covid-19 disease happens in two phases. The virus first attacks in the upper respiratory tract - the nose and throat. Some seven days or so later it goes down into the lungs. It then can cause a so called cytokine storm during which the body overreacts and attacks itself in multiple organs. To avoid a progression into the second phase of Covid-19 the body must fight the virus as fast as possible. DJ Much more info...Maybe some people may need booster vaccines-discussion is still ongoing. You do not want to get CoViD !!! |

That's all well and good in vulnerable people but in young, fit, healthy people with no underlying health issues, Covid does not present a life threatening risk and Israel has just shown that natural immunity is 13 times better than any immunity conferred by the vaccines. I do feel we're a bit skewed towards old age on this site. I have a number of nieces, nephews and cousins in Europe and the US who have had Covid and had a mild illness and recovered absolutely fine. I also have 2 cousins who are extremely vulnerable and who are fully vaccinated and if they catch Covid it will likely kill them. I think we have to take a balanced approach on here. I think the vaccines are an excellent option for my elderly father and my elderly and vulnerable relatives, but a really bad idea for my fit and healthy children, who I would much rather see develop natural immunity. |

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesnβt accord with the facts.

I'm wondering if people who have a bad reaction to the vaccine, are the people that would be badley affected by the virus ,I say this as I I know some people who have had the vaccine and had a reaction, others I know me included only had a sore arm for a few days...... Interesting.... Take care all π·ππ PS,KM the people you know in the UK ,did they have the Delta strain,or the wuflu ?I'm guessing the wuflu,as my cousins in the UK had wuflu early in 2020... |
