not only are the #russia pasports for #ukraine not accepted at the border with their new 'Motherland' but they are now being immediately mobilized to be sent as cannon flodder to the front in #russia uniform under Russia command

In Russian occupied Melitopol, those that were dumb enough to accept the offer of a Russian passport were immediately given a summons to the front.

Putin completely humiliated as the carnage goes on. I'm sure the terrorist state will lob a few missiles at civilians after this massive loss.

Like his soldiers, is Putin doomed?

Vladimir Putin is kaput. The proof of that is the below letter, written by a 26-year-old soldier in the Russian army, V.V. Tarasenko. We know nothing about Tarasenko, except that he was a resident of Putin’s brainchild, the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic, and that he has a wife, Valeria, and a small son. We also know that Tarasenko died in battle during the recent Ukrainian offensive in Kharkiv province. Ukrainian intelligence found the letter; the Ukrainian analyst and soldier, Taras Berezovets, posted it on Facebook. The letter was written with little punctation and without capital letters. I’ve added them to make it more comprehensible:

This letter is for the future, if I should die or be taken prisoner or become a vegetable! Written 17.7.22. It is very hard to write, I’m crying, but I must. Beloved Lera, tell [our son] what kind of dad I was, that we were sent as cannon fodder to Zaliman [a village in Kharkiv province]! Without armor, without ammunition, without normal weapons. This is about our situation. When our son grows up, tell him his dad wanted very much to return home to be the best dad ever. I’ve been drinking and I’m writing emotionally. I know that all this will be forgotten and that you will be living your own life, that you’ll find a new husband, that I’ll simply disappear in the war like all the guys. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a normal life. Say that dad was an athlete, didn’t smoke and didn’t drink. It’s terrible that everyone has forgotten me. It’s very hard to accept all this, but all people die. And this cycle can’t be changed. It’s bad to die in the summer. If only I were at the seashore.

To [my] wife.

Tarasenko V.V.

Tarasenko’s fate and complaints are not unique. The Russian leadership, with Putin at the head, has evinced a profoundly cavalier attitude toward lives — not just of innocent Ukrainians, who’ve been the targets of genocide, but also of Russian soldiers and residents of the self-styled Luhansk and Donetsk “people’s republics,” the LNR and DNR, both of whom have been recognized as independent by the Russian Federation. As Tarasenko says, the soldiers of the Russian army are nothing less than cannon fodder. Most likely to be sent to the front without the requisite training, supplies, weaponry and ammunition are the men of the LNR and DNR, many of whom have been forcibly conscripted and sent to die. So much for Putin’s concern for Ukraine’s Russian speakers.

Tarasenko knew that he was cannon fodder; other conscripts must also know that they are doomed. It’s hard to imagine that morale is especially high among soldiers facing certain death for no discernible reason other than the megalomaniacal ambitions and oversized ego of their country’s fascist dictator. It’s even harder to imagine a scenario in which an army consisting of terrified boys who dream of spending time on the beach with their girlfriends or wives can possibly sustain a meaningless war — and least of all, win it.

Tarasenko’s letter presages his death, and it also may foretell Putin’s rapidly approaching end. His war — as should be evident by now even to the Kremlin’s propagandists, German left-wingers and American neorealists — is proving to be one of history’s enormous strategic blunders. Like Napoleon and Hitler, Putin surely faces removal and possible exile on some distant isle or in his bunker.

Local policymakers in St. Petersburg and Moscow evidently agree. On Sept. 8, the Muscovites adopted a resolution stating outright that Putin must go: “We ask that you release yourself from the post [of president] as a result of the fact that your views and your model of rule are hopelessly out of date and impede the development of Russia and its human potential.”

The Petersburgers were even more radical. They proposed that the State Duma, Russia’s moribund legislature, charge Putin with “state treason” with the intent of having him removed from office.

Putin has lost his legitimacy, and a ruler — even a fascist dictator — needs to be deemed legitimate by elites and masses to remain in power. If, as seems likely, the views of Tarasenko and the policymakers in Moscow and St. Petersburg are widespread, then the ongoing decay of the Russian army can only accelerate, and popular discontent can only increase. A social explosion may be inevitable.

Whatever the scenario, Putin’s end definitely is near, and the world would do well to minimize the chances of his acting even more destructively by hastening a Ukrainian victory and thereby giving a fillip to the Russian democratic opposition and bringing the Putin era to a close as soon as possible.

"Three massive explosions rocked the area by the airfield in Melitopol, the town in Zaporizhia region, which has been temporarily captured by the Russian invasion forces.

That’s according to Melitopol Mayor in exile, Ivan Fedorov, who broke the news on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
"Just in: three loud blasts in Melitopol, near the airfield, where the occupiers unsuccessfully set up one of their military bases," the official wrote."

DJ,

We live in crazy days...those that point out talks prevented wars, talks end wars are presented as "pro Putin"...

ksc-you are damaging freedom of expression, a basic idea of democracy by your "postings"...is it possible for you to show some decency ?

Are you able to show some respect for views that differ from your views ?

Discussion-different views-can make us stronger...trying to block other opinions by posting-often unreadable-over 10 propaganda level posts is not discussing but blocking another view...

A turning point in Ukraine leads to a turning point in Russia: Longtime Kremlin supporters are now calling the war a ‘disaster’

A rout on the battlefield has led to unheard of criticism inside Russia.

The sudden, successful Ukrainian counteroffensive near Kharkiv has been an unpleasant surprise for just about everyone in Russia — for the Kremlin, its propaganda machine, the Ministry of Defense and for millions of patriotically minded Russians. In a matter of just a few days, the Ukrainian flag has been raised over several towns and villages — and at least one major city — that had been held for months by the Russians. Television and social media showed footage of Russian tanks, armored personnel carriers and other military equipment, which the retreating army appeared to have abandoned in a hurry.

Bad battlefield news for Russia isn’t a new thing in this war; bad news that’s shared widely with ordinary Russians, with no filter, is certainly new. So is sharp criticism of the war.

And in the last few days, that’s what Russians have been seeing and hearing.

In a suddenly new information reality, the Kremlin is either unwilling or unable to hide the truth from its people. From day one, the conflict has been called a “special military operation” — by Russian President Vladimir Putin and everyone else in the Russian government and media; calling it vojna, or “war,” was made a crime early on. Now all kinds of people are saying vojna, and saying it openly. Many are saying that the vojna is not being waged well. And they are not buying the Kremlin’s explanations.

The images -- and some video which is still being analyzed -- show a small convoy . . .  very small; of general military transport-type trucks, and some smaller vehicles akin to HUMVEES, traveling via public roads from Russia into Ukraine.

This simple, small, act, changes the ENTIRE dynamic of the Russia-Ukraine situation.   Ukraine, the USA, the UK, and all of NATO, have just found out that China is now an active participant, and came in on the side of Russia.

The stakes in this situation just went so high, they went completely off the charts.

It is no understatement to say this is an earth-shattering development.

With this single, small, almost insignificant action, China has just announced to the whole world that it is now militarily standing with Russia, inside Ukraine.

Super-powers #2 and #3, are now openly, physically, confronting Super Power #1.

It seems to me that we in the USA and our European vassal state "partners" ought to get the message, and get it quick: I personally perceive the message to be "Either this Ukraine nonsense stops now, or open warfare between all three nuclear-armed super-powers is now on the table."

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake rattled much of Taiwan on Sunday, which followed a 6.4 magnitude earthquake Saturday, according to Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The magnitude 6.8 quake hit around 2:44 pm local time (0644 GMT), with an epicenter in Taitung county, a town in the eastern part of the island nation. CWB said the quake was recorded at a relatively shallow depth of 7 kilometers (4 miles).

The US Geological Survey initially reported that the quake registered a 7.2 magnitude but revised it to 6.9 -- still a higher reading than CWB's estimate.

Late on September 18, a series of explosions were reported at the US-led coalition Green Village base in Syria’s northeastern region.

The base is located in the center of al-Omar oil fields in the southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside. It is one of the coalition’s main installations in Syria. Dozens of heavily-armed coalition troops are usually deployed at the base.

The Syrian state TV said that the explosions were caused by a rocket attack. Fire and several column of smoke were reportedly spotted at the base. However, no casualties have been reported, as of yet.

Just a day earlier, several news sources reported a similar attack on the US-led coalition al-Shaddadi base in the southern al-Hasakah countryside.

The two alleged attacks on the coalition’s bases in al-Omar and al-Shaddadi came after a series of Israeli strikes on the Syrian capital, Damascus. The strikes, which took place in the early hours of September 17, targeted the airport and several positions, including an alleged support office of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Five Syrian service members were reportedly killed.

The coalition is yet to comment on the alleged attacks, which may have been response to the recent Israeli strikes on Damascus.

Last month, Iranian-backed forces attacked a garrison of the US-led coalition in the southeastern Syrian area of al-Tanf with several suicide drones in response to a series of Israeli strikes that targeted air defense bases in Tartus and Damascus. The attack eventually led to a limited confrontation with the coalition.

DJ, "RIC" Russia-Iran-China may think it is time to "deal with US/NATO agression around the globe"...

Written by Alexander Rubinstein. Originally published on The Grayzone

The Ukrainian President published a photograph on his social media channels showing one of his security escorts bearing a patch referencing the personal bodyguard unit of Adolf Hitler.

On September 13, Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelensky made a surprise trip to the city of Izyum in the Kharkov Region for a photo op following his military’s recapture of the town from Russian forces. During the visit, a soldier who appeared to be guarding Zelensky was photographed wearing a Nazi-inspired patch on his uniform.

When the image drew criticism on social media, the Ukrainian president’s official Telegram and Facebook accounts quietly deleted it.

In Izyum on September 14, Zelensky participated in a flag raising ceremony to the tune of the Ukrainian National Anthem and took selfies with local civilians and soldiers. While most of the men on the scene wore official military fatigues, it was not difficult to see which ones were for lack of a better term, working, and which ones were simply present to participate in the event.

One photograph posted on Zelensky’s Telegram and Facebook accounts (archived here and here) captured the president as he posed for selfies with Ukrainian troops. As Zelensky flashed a smile for the camera of a cheerful service member, he was flanked by a heavily equipped soldier standing guard and facing the opposite direction. Just over Zelensky’s right shoulder, a small but significant patch could be seen on the back of the soldier’s flak vest.

Social media users quickly identified the symbol. It was derived from the “Totenkopf,” (German for “Death’s Head”), an insignia widely used in Nazi Germany. Badges incorporating the skull and bones motif were popularized by Germany’s Death’s Head Units, whose original task was to serve as guards at concentration camps. In October 1939, some 6,500 members were deployed as frontline fighters in the attempted conquest of Europe and the Soviet Union, carrying out war crimes and ethnic cleansing on their way.

DJ, The US, NATO is working with IS, alquaida terrorists ...neo-nazi's...is there no limit ? The SF link has lots of other links to nazi-symbols in use by "NATO supported Ukraine fighters"...

-Another outcome of the SCO-Samarkand meeting (besides China PLA forces moving into Ukraine) https://southfront.org/financial-support-for-syrian-opposition-coalition-in-turkey-has-been-suspended/ or https://southfront.org/financial-support-for-syrian-opposition-coalition-in-turkey-has-been-suspended/ ;

The backers of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, commonly known as the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), had suspended their financial support, Sputnik reported on September 18.

According to the Russian news agency, the decision to suspend financial support to the Istanbul-based coalition came as Syrian opposition leaders are preparing to travel to the United States to attend a United Nations meeting.

Sources with knowledge on the issue told Sputnik that the countries that backs the SOC stopped covering the financial expenses, personal expenses and travel fees that result from political and social activities, seminars and meetings held by coalition members in Turkish cities.

“Suspending financial support for [the SOC] activities is not the only thing that reveals a change in the mood of the countries backing the coalition, as the salaries of coalition members have also been delayed during the past two months for more than 15 days,” one of the unnamed sources said.

The receives financial support from several countries. Its members are also paid monthly salaries. All the money is usually funneled through Turkish authorities.

Sputnik said that Syrian opposition leaders are now trying to secure funding for their upcoming trip to the US. Even their closest ally, Turkey, has refused to pay for the trip.

The SOC was formed in the Qatari capital of Doha less than a year after the outbreak of the war in Syria with the aim of overthrowing the regime in Damascus. Soon later, the coalition established its headquarters in Istanbul city. This allowed Turkey to dominate much of the coalition’s internal and foreign affairs.

A recent report by Sputnik said that Turkey has asked the SOC to leave its territory before the end of the year. While this is yet to be officially confirmed by Ankara, recent developments suggest that this may be true.

After the release of the report, Reuters revealed that intelligence chiefs of Turkey and Syria held a series of constructive meetings in the Syrian capital, Damascus, over the last few weeks.

As Turkey is working to restore relations in Syria, the SOC is increasingly becoming a burden. Ankara may have threatened to expel the coalition and suspend all financial support for it in an attempt to pressure its members into accepting a political settlement that favors Damascus.

DJ, Erdogan was willing to meet Assad-Syria in Samarkand-somehow Assad could not go there...but Syria-Türkiye relations may be improving...Just like Tussia, Iran, Iraq they want the US/NATO out of Syria and Iraq...The US is there against the will of the Syria/Iraq government stealing oil...

I do not like it...I hate it....

The simplistic mindset of westerners can be illustrated by the fact that they imagine Chinese support for Russia since the onset of the Ukraine war would all be in the public domain. The extent of such a naive attitude is childlike.

DJ, Iran drones are now in use in Ukraine on the Russian side and "doing a good job"...better then the Turkish drones did Ukraine used...Those Turkish drones did "well" in Azerbaijan against Armenia ...but Russia has no problems with Turkish drones...

I think HT claims of a (small ? symbolic ? The Chinese military convoy entering Ukraine in support of Russia does need more proof. However the Chinese message is meant for US/UK/NATO intel...IF there are such Chinese convoys sending supplies, trucks etc. to support Russia western intel will know...(DJ, Maybe China sending support via rail ? Western satellites can pick that up...Russian/China social media will post video/photo evidence...).

-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc3HCjwhQrM or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gc3HCjwhQrM The New Atlas, min 26 western foreign policy is a disaster...from the New Atlas;

Update on Russian military operations in Ukraine for September 18, 2022

- Ukrainian offensives in Kherson and Kharkov have both ground to a halt;

- Near Kherson, a Russian strike on a dam up-river of the Ingulets has flooded crossings, isolating Ukrainian bridgeheads east of the river;

- Ukrainian forces have been fighting for days attempting to take eastern Kopiansk with no success as Russian reinforcements arrive;

- Potential Ukrainian offensives elsewhere are still a possibility;

- Winter fighting may see Russian military aviation given the advantage as Ukrainian forces' ability to hide in forests diminishes;

- The US is sending fewer and fewer weapons and ammunition to Ukraine;

- Future talk of sending advanced weapons from Patriots and F-16's, to Grey Eagle drones and Leopard main battle tanks ignore how impractical this aid would be;

DJ, The New Atlas remarks Russia did find winter wars in Chechnia (DJ, against western/Gulf supported jihadi's...Uyghurs-from China were fighting in Syria on the IS side..meant to fight China in western China...)

Patriot missiles failed in Saudi Arabia confronted with drones/cruisemissiles, Leopard-2 German tanks in use by Türkiye in Syria were destroyed by IS and Kurdish (both US supported) fighters..

The west hardly is sending enough weapons to Ukraine to compensate for the-massive-losses...

DJ-My view is Ukraine most likely will NOT be able to get enough military together for any relevant offensive...Ukraine is running out of fuel, weapons and most likely military willing to go to the frontlines...

-We did have disarmament agreements with the Soviet Union/Russia till trump decided not to renew them, there was an Iran-deal ! The US went for a "One China" policy...What is wrong with renewing, sticking, to a foreign policy that had diplomacy ? Certainly if the alternative is Russia-Iran-China (and most likely others !) now seeking confrontation with "the west/NATO" on many frontlines?

DJ-Western foreign policy disasters are NOT weakening Russia but self destructive for the west (as The New Atlas a.o. claim). It is stupid...we should do better !

In many countries you had a constitution making a difference between "citizen" and "subject"...People living in colonies were "subjects"...with much of the white colonizers "citizens", in a much better position..Speaking of colonialism a way to take over a country was supporting a "weaker party" against the local dominant power...That is how India, Indonesia local kingdoms roled into a western colonial agenda...the pattern (support of a weaker party -but getting things in return) is seen in modern wars...

DJ,

To form an opinion I use lots of sources themselves also using lots of sources...I do not want to discuss those sources-they are not the point I want to make...

Frontlines;

Ukraine; reason for conflict is the 2008 admission to NATO "in time" at a Bucharest-Romania NATO meeting. Georgia also would join NATO. Most European countries did NOT welcome that idea then...they knew Russia would NOT accept it...still the US/UK pressed on..other NATO members focused on the "not now-in 2008-part...

We had the 2014 coup/"revolution"...Ethnic Russians did not agree with the pro-western regime...so we did see a civil war with Kiev getting lots of NATO support-prior to become a NATO member...

Russia claims Ukraine was preparing a major offensive against ethnic Russians in february 2022-the "Special Military Operation" was-Russian view- to protect ethnic Russians in Ukraine..Shelling by NATO-pro Kiev forces (with extreme right wing elements/support) had killed thousends of ethnic Russians.

Crimea-after a referendum already had returned to Russia (was part of Russia till 1956...). Some other regions (Kherson, Zaparozije, and Luhansk/Donetsk "republics") will see a referendum september 23-27. If those 4 regions join Russia then the Russian Army will move in...Any attack on those regions will see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_Security_Treaty_Organization or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_Security_Treaty_Organization being activated. Belarus is already preparing for war....

Iran did send suïcide drones, there are claims of China sending in munition/weapons...Some media claimed North Korea did offer to send 100,000 military in support of Russia.

At the SCO-Samarkand meeting India, China, Iran blamed Ukraine for not willing to go for peace talks. Türkiye hosted talks -reached an agreement-but bojo (UK former pm) visiting Kiev ended all hopes on talks...Most non-western countries (from Brazil, Mexico to India, Indonesia) blame the west for escalation...See the Ukraine crisis as an outcome of western provocation...

DJ-The referenda will go ahead, most likely the result has to be 4 oblasts/regions follow Crimea in joining Russia. Any (further) attack on them will be seen as an attack on Russia itself...

-Taiwan...even the US claims to accept Taiwan is part of China (One China policy...) still it is dealing with Taiwan as a US ally against China. China does NOT accept that.

DJ-A very likely short term perspective will be a Chinese/Russian blockade of Taiwan to force Taiwan to accept Bejing rule..."biden would defend Taiwan"...we will see...

-Iran did see talks on a new deal with the west break down...trump stepped out of the old Iran-deal...Iran is now in the process of becoming an SCO member... It is a major link for Russia(-Iran-) India trade, part of TIP Türkiye-Iran-Pakistan "land bridge" for China western trade...There have been talks with Saudi Arabia...Israel/US/NATO is fighting (pro)Iran groups in a.o. Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen...(the Saudis are trying to end the Yemen-war without losing face...)

Israel was thinking of an attack on Iran nuclear installations out of fear of an Iran nuclear weapon arsenal...Israel itself has nuclear weapons-but does not want other counties in the region to have them...However both the US and Saudi Arabia are NOT willing to support Israel in a major attack on Iran...Even in the most optimistic Israeli scenario's an attack on Iran may "damage/slow down" Iran its nuclear program...but Iran and its allies could do very major damage to Israel in reaction...

-India...Modi knows Putin already 22 years...Xi-China and Putin also have friendly relations...One of many reasons why Modi did not go to the UK funeral is the UK colonial past...destroying and terrorizing India till 1948...The UK-"new" PM liz truss, calling for a global nato is a western alternative-seen in many places as neo-colonialism-most countries do NOT welcome...

Again-India thinks "this is no time for war" so India wants Ukraine (NATO) to go for diplomacy...

-The "west" still unwilling to go for any form of compromise...in Ukraine, on Taiwan...even not able to restart an Iran-deal...The west keeps supporting regime-change wars, coups, terrorism...(for Türkiye support for the Kurds is terrorism, for Russia-Iran-China US support for jihadi-groups is terrorism...India and Pakistan may want to blame the US for Kashmir...easy way out...)

DJ-Maybe the major outcome of the SCO meeting in Samarkand may be growing defense cooperation between its (future) members...There have been "RIC" Navy drills (Russia, Iran, China in the Sea of Oman...Atlantic Ocean...) , The Vostok-drills in eastern Russia had also military from China, India, Venezuela, Nicaragua...(the last two not part-yet-of the SCO...). Russia-Türkiye work together in the north of Syria...in weapon programs...

Another outcome is "progress on a SCO/BRICS (etc) alternative for the US$ for international/global trade...

DJ-Will we now see "World War Three"?

I think that is up to "the west"...in wich the "west" is divided in many fragments; Japan may get very close to an East Asia conflict, Australia/New Zealand need the Asian market, the EU has a major economic problem...so does the UK...even the US may not escape from it...Most of the west also in a growing political crisis...Again "united/union" under stress like not seen in decades...

Macron-France tried to get in contact with Putin...for now Putin is closing that door...Israel may try to seek security against Iran and hope Russia/China can mean more then the US/NATO...

The US mid-term elections do not "look good" for biden...however there is-also in most of Europe-no real "ready to use" alternative...

Two scenario's;

-Due to social unrest, economic collapse the west is willing to go for (indirect) talks or

-The west goes on further escalating the wars...to find out Russia is NOT isolated at all...

DJ-Sadly it looks like (most of) the west will push for more confrontation/escalation increasing the risks for "major conflict"...Türkiye, Hungary, South Korea may not follow that west...

We live in "interesting times"...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Suspicion is also growing that the United States “green-lighted” in advance recent cruise missile attacks carried out by Ukraine against military targets deep inside Russia. Since the attacks, the White House has declared that Ukraine has “permission” to attack Russia and has basically conceded to the unbalanced Zelensky the right to make all the decisions and run the war that the US is largely funding, which is a formula for disaster. It is already known that Ukraine is receiving top level intelligence provided both by the US and also other NATO states. The precision attacks on Russia suggest that the Ukrainian army was given the coordinates of possible active targets, something that the US would be capable of providing but which would have been beyond the abilities of Ukraine, which possesses no satellite surveillance capability. If it is true that the White House was involved in escalating the conflict it would be a very dangerous move, inviting retaliation by Moscow.

To be sure, some idiots in Washington, mostly of the neocon variety, continue to see war against Russia as something like a crusade for world freedom. Rick Newman, Yahoo’s top Finance Columnist, observes how “Budget hawks in Congress are worried about granting President Biden’s request for an additional $38 billion in aid for Ukraine to help defeat the invading Russians.” He concludes “They’re right. Thirty-eight billion isn’t enough. Make it $50 billion. Or even $100 billion. The more, the better, until the job is done.”

Apparently, the bellicose Rick does not quite get that Russia has made clear that if it is about to be defeated by force majeure it will go nuclear. And Congress and the White House don’t seem to get it either, with both the Republican and Democratic parties oblivious to the real danger that confronts the American people. Nuclear war? Sure! Just hide in your basement, if you have one, and tune in.

DJ The "big war" will be between NATO/US and China with its allies....https://southfront.org/top-usmc-commander-in-japan-says-pentagon-preparing-for-war-with-china/ or https://southfront.org/top-usmc-commander-in-japan-says-pentagon-preparing-for-war-with-china/ ;

The US general spoke in regards to the ongoing arming of Taiwan, claiming this serves “to prepare” the island similarly to how the Kiev regime has been since 2014.

Written by Drago Bosnic, independent geopolitical and military analyst

The United States is now publicly discussing the “containment” of China with its Asia-Pacific vassals. On January 8, the Financial Times reported that the supreme US Marine Corps commander for Japan gave very direct statements regarding Pentagon’s China strategy. Lieutenant General James Bierman thinks there are “numerous parallels” between Ukraine and Taiwan and admits the US is preparing what he dubbed “a counter-China theater” by strengthening coordination with its regional satellite states.

“The US and Japanese armed forces are rapidly integrating their command structure and scaling up combined operations as Washington DC and its Asian allies prepare for a possible conflict with China such as a war over Taiwan, according to the top Marine Corps general in Japan,” the FT report states.

Japan has indeed become more active, as its new government decided to abandon the economy-focused policies Tokyo practiced since WWII ended. The historic shift doesn’t only include (re)militarization, but also an increasing rivalry with three regional powers – China, North Korea and Russia. Apart from a break with its military neutrality, as Tokyo is massively increasing its defense budget, USMC Lieutenant General Bierman confirmed that Japan is exponentially expanding its role in joint military operations with America.

In what can only be described as a complete break with even a semblance of diplomatic etiquette, the US general spoke in a very direct and rough manner, particularly in regards to the ongoing arming of Taiwan, claiming this serves “to prepare” the island similarly to how the Kiev regime has been since 2014. His exact statement was as follows:

“Why have we achieved the level of success we’ve achieved in Ukraine? A big part of that has been because after Russian aggression in 2014 and 2015, we earnestly got after preparing for future conflict: training for the Ukrainians, pre-positioning of supplies, identification of sites from which we could operate support, sustain operations. We call that setting the theatre. And we are setting the theatre in Japan, in the Philippines, in other locations.”

The interview is scandalous, to say the least, as it can hardly be considered anything else but an attempt to provoke China. This is further reinforced by the US general’s explicit comparison of Taiwan and Ukraine, which is a textbook example of how the political West generates conflicts that then turn into open warfare. Bierman’s position as the commander of the Third Marine Expeditionary Force and USMC Forces Japan makes these statements all the more disturbing and alarming, especially to Beijing, which has been making strides to improve relations with the US.

As the general casually admitted the political West spent years preparing the Kiev regime for war with Russia (while feigning “efforts for a peaceful resolution”), his comments about Taiwan are quite revealing and will surely be taken very seriously in China. Even the FT, one of the flagships of Western mainstream media, admits that Bierman’s statements are an “unusually frank” comparison with Ukraine. To make matters worse, he didn’t stop there, but made several more controversial “frank comments”. The FT claims the general’s further statements were as follows:

“When you talk about the complexity, the size of some of the operations they would have to conduct, let’s say [in] an invasion of Taiwan, there will be indications and warnings, and there are specific aspects to that in terms of geography and time, which allow us to posture and be most prepared… …You gain a leverage point, a base of operations, which allows you to have a tremendous head start in different operational plans. As we square off with the Chinese adversary, who is going to own the starting pistol and is going to have the ability potentially to initiate hostilities… …we can identify decisive key terrain that must be held, secured, defended, leveraged.”

The aforementioned preparations also include the Philippines. Manila reportedly plans to allow US forces to double their prepositioned weapons and logistics in the island country. In addition to five Filipino bases, the Pentagon will gain access to five more, all of which will be part of the “China containment effort”. Bierman also “cautioned” the US regional vassals “not to overestimate the Chinese military”, claiming that “the PLA should not be fearfully seen as being 10 feet tall”.

It’s quite clear the general couldn’t have possibly acted on his own when giving such statements, indicating that the Pentagon refuses to deescalate the ever-growing tensions in the increasingly contested Asia-Pacific region. If Washington DC continues with these aggressive Sinophobic policies, Beijing is extremely unlikely to stand idle. China’s aim is a peaceful settlement with Taipei and this isn’t just its official position, but a clearly defined goal. Beijing has consistently been working to achieve this through diplomatic and economic means. For decades, it invested heavily in improving ties with the island, offering unparalleled autonomy.

On the other hand, America has been “discouraging” Taipei from signing any deals with China. This has prompted Beijing to further invest in its military might. Although China’s primary focus is economic development, it also had to make plans for strategically important contingencies such as further arming of Taiwan, to say nothing of the US-backed independence movement which has gained traction in recent decades. Although it hasn’t given up on a diplomatic solution, as it’s still investing in a “soft power” approach towards its breakaway island province, China still needs to mitigate the disastrous effects of the significant US regional influence.

DJ...Bejing cannot see this any other then a de facto US declaration of war....

DJ, very limited "latest news" on Ukraine;

Situation north of Bakhmut city: #RussianArmy and #DPR forces advanced south of Krasna Hora/Красна Гора and reached the outskirts of Paraskoviivka/Парасковіївка town, where troops are clashing with #UkrainianArmy. and

Situation south of Bakhmut city: #RussianArmy & #DPR took control over the train station north of Klishchiivka and is trying to storming the first buildings of the town from this axis where #UkrainianArmy so far repelled all the Russian attempts. DJ, lots of people (MS, AM, MoA) expect Russia to "start major moves soon"....https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/ukraine-open-thread-2023-11.html#comments or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/ukraine-open-thread-2023-11.html#comments

The only way to swiftly end the war is for a catastrophic political crisis in the US that makes politicians forget the Ukraine aid.

Perhaps Russia could ignite that by attacking the dollar: a 25% discount on oil and gas for any country that sanctions the US and stops all dollar trade.

Otherwise, it's going to escalate starting with those Polish troops, then Romania, the baltics, then Germany and France, then the UK and finally the US.

DJ, the US-an insane biden (after criminal trump) - is the basic global problem. Do NATO-members have to follow US orders for selfdestruction ? The US is pushing for war with China-far worse then the already high risk wars with Russia and Iran....

No negotiated peace. The USA will not allow it. And Zelensky will do what the USA wants. He now is already a billionaire.

The USA has no choice but to continue to press for the destruction of Russia. The alternative is to lose the world's reserve currency status of the United States Dollar.

So, the USA will continue to escalate to the maximum. The only resolution left is nuclear war. The Russians know this and are making their plans to deal with this unavoidable conclusion. This is why they reorganized their military command structure this week.

The conflict in Ukraine has helped the Russians get ready for the coming nuclear war. It is not only a battle front learning experience, it provides ready access to the trials of new weapon systems.

I suspect that Russia will take and secure the Donbas. Then the bear will launch just before the USA was planning to launch. This may be as soon as 3 to 4 months away.

If you live in the USA, get out while you can. Trying to get out after the nukes fall will be dangerous and very risky. Staying will be even worse.

Posted by: young | Jan 12 2023 16:03 utc | 5

DJ...the most widespread view on nuclear war is that it will be a short war...However, going for "tactical-battle field" nuclear weapons may bring a longer lasting nuclear war...."Strategic" weapons-intercontinental may get used later on....

By now already these conflicts have no winners-more and more destruction worldwide.....total insanity !

https://southfront.org/americas-war-against-communism-was-really-a-war-against-advocates-for-the-poor/ or https://southfront.org/americas-war-against-communism-was-really-a-war-against-advocates-for-the-poor/ Somehow the US is addicted to regime change https://thesaker.is/why-the-cia-attempted-a-maidan-uprising-in-brazil/ or https://thesaker.is/why-the-cia-attempted-a-maidan-uprising-in-brazil/ only to find out US made coups -like in Pakistan- (Imran Khan) brings other anti-US leaders....

DJ-If "the rest" of the world start seeing the US as the main global problem, US nuclear weapons keeping the world hostage-how "the rest of the world" will deal with it ?

They may try to buy time-prepare for an unavoidable conflict....

DJ-Very depressing...hope we will find other way out....

DJ, Just like in the pandemic "we" go for profits...vaccines in fact may have made the healthcrisis worse on the long run-increasing immune evasion...The New Atlas (NA) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13MBwNsFWLs or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13MBwNsFWLs on "western tanks" send to Ukraine...

Lots of different (UK, US, French and German made) tanks-all in need of their own training, maintenance, munition...DJ-Also all of them with relative small tracks-not made for mud...Russian tanks have wider tracks..."Russian tanks love mud".....In a desert war sand is the main "enemy" in Ukraine "mud" is the main problem....

So did these "very superior in advertisments" tanks see action ?

Yes, In Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon these western tanks were used...before getting destroyed....NA mentions the tank crews in these wars were trained, part of a well organized army-with good air cover...Still from Yemen Houthi's to Hezbollah, US sponsored IS...far less organized groups managed to destroy "superior western tanks"...in lots of ways; mines IED-road side bombs, anti tank grenades....

So-just like the HIMARS-western tanks will go to Ukraine for two reasons;

-profits for the war industry

-destruction on the front...

DJ-Again-Russia keeps destroying the Ukraine army...by now more and more Russia is destroying western armies fighting in Ukraine as well....And of course intel is shared with Iran, China, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba etc....

Western insanity has to end here and now!

Taiwan’s Defense Ministry revealed on Wednesday that it has sent some of its military officers to a NATO war college in Italy, acknowledging cooperation with the Western military alliance that is sure to anger China.

One Taiwanese air force officer, Lt. Col. Wu Bong-yeng, told reporters that he went to the NATO Defense College in Rome in 2021 for a six-month course and insisted the cooperation was purely academic.

DJ,

The main conflict now is in East Asia-NOT in Ukraine...

https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202301/1283794.shtml or https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202301/1283794.shtml ;

US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's pledge to strengthen their countries' ties and bolster alliances in the Indo-Pacific region under the excuse of countering China - their imaginary enemy - represents a ticking bomb for the region's hard-sustained peace, experts said, believing that Japan is also laying ground for hosting the G7 summit this year, to draw in members to concentrate on attacking China.

They believe that such "alliance," which endows the country support of military expansion, is a double-edged sword for Tokyo, as it also pushes Japan to the front line of attack and disdain across Indo-Pacific region, as more tensions will be triggered by its ties with US. They warned China to remain on high alert against Japan and the US' next step, especially on the Taiwan question.

and https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/south-korea-threatens-may-seek-its-own-nukes-1st-time or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/south-korea-threatens-may-seek-its-own-nukes-1st-time

Authored by Dave DeCamp via AntiWar.com,

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol on Wednesday threatened that South Korea could obtain its own nuclear weapons if threats from the North grow, marking the first such comments from a South Korean leader in decades.

"It’s possible that the problem gets worse and our country will introduce tactical nuclear weapons or build them on our own," Yoon said at a policy briefing with his foreign and defense ministers. "If that’s the case, we can have our own nuclear weapons pretty quickly, given our scientific and technological capabilities."

DJ, The US also further pushing military exports to Taiwan-while still claiming it is going for a "One China" policy...

So how to relate this to the Ukraine war ?

Yesterday Russia was able to send 80 missiles into Ukraine;

-Ukraine air defense seemed not to have reacted

-(My speculation) Russia did hit some targets NATO/Ukraine did not know Russia had knowledge of...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aak34okmy2A or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aak34okmy2A from Defense Politics Asia (DPA...also the name of a major German press agency); There are many talks, predictions and analysis by everyone on how Russia will do it's winter offensive. Or would it even happen? And with the change in leadership structure for the Russian Special Military Operation, the winter offensive is looking really likely to happen soon.

DPA believe the 3 deputy commanders of the SMO will be split into managing 3 fronts, with each taking full charge of one front.

Surovikin is likely to carry on his "good work" on the Eastern Front that the fighting is currently raging.

Oleg Salyukov, whom is the commander of all Russian ground forces, is reported to be visiting troops in Belarus. Which is a signal that he would be in charge of the Northern Front. But we do not think Belarus would want to change the status quo, and thus the invasion from the north is unlikely to come from Belarus, but from Russia itself.

Alexei Kim, would then naturally be in charge of the southern front, with either an amphibious operation in the western part of Odessa oblast, or east of Odessa in the Mykolaiv oblast, OR, to start a Zaporizhzhia Offensive towards Zaporizhzhia city through to Dnipro city. Watch the full video for the full analysis.

DJ, Again...Russia is switching from a limited pecial Military Operation (SMO)/Anti Terrorist (=nazi) Operation (ATO)" into full war...from one frontline it is preparing for a major escalation-with a wider leadership. (Western phantasy on generals fighting each other are-for now- non sense...).

Russia seems to be good in;

-Electronic warfare; unable electronic systems (radar, communication, weapons) of its enemies

-Hypersonic long range missiles (may hit the US via Antarctica...speed up to 20,000 km/h)

-Intel, knowing what to hit when...

US/western sanctions created a "west-rest confrontation" https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/emmanuel-todd-on-the-third-world-war.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/emmanuel-todd-on-the-third-world-war.html  (I do not agree with all of it...Most countries are not interested in what the west does in gay rights...)

It is the economy that matters...https://southfront.org/satellite-images-show-iranian-combat-drones-at-eastern-syria-airport/ or https://southfront.org/satellite-images-show-iranian-combat-drones-at-eastern-syria-airport/

Both the Mohajer-6 and Ababil-3 were spotted in Syria in the past. However, not in the country’s eastern region. It’s unclear yet if the drones in Deir Ezzor Airport are being operated by Iranian forces, or the Syrian Arab Army.

The IRGC may have deployed the drones in Deir Ezzor to keep an eye on ISIS cells in the governorate’s vast desert, as well as to spy on United States forces. The U.S.-led coalition maintains two key bases in the eastern and southeastern Deir Ezzor countryside, just across the Euphrates River.

DJ, to AVOID a nuclear "west-rest confrontation" Russia-Iran-China (RIC) and its allies (North Korea, Syria a.o.) are showing what they are able of....

In Ukraine collapse of the Kiev-puppet regime, like that of Afghanistan in 2021, is only a matter of time. But it will NOT end the basic conflict...Western countries going for -now- Russian investments, possessions to "finance aid" to a corrupt Kiev regime is further increasing a financial war the west can NOT win...Most minerals, energy, even industry capacity is NOT under western control...Fiat currencies are the west weakest spot...

"Support for Ukraine" already NOW is doing very major damage to the west...While Russia still has to START !!! its (real) war against Ukraine...

Further escalation only leaves "the west" with a nuclear option...the west is running out of other means (sanctions, weapons...). Russia, China (a.o.) have "underground cities"...hypersonic weapons and Electronic Warfare EW may unable (most) US nuclear first strike capacity...

At the end -to avoid destruction- the west has no other option then sit and talk....

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

The Duran https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAJ5cB9PTZw or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAJ5cB9PTZw ; Iran and Russia, major economic cooperation, transport links The Duran: Episode 1483

with a clip -13,30 minute of then senator j.biden joking on Russia warning NATO expansion would bring Russia closer to China..."try Iran" hahaha....

Russia and Iran are now moving towards increasing trade..Russia selling SU-25 fighter jets, very likely S-400 air defense to Iran.

The Duran had one thing wrong; it is not 20% west against 80% rest...US-UK-EU, Australia/New Zealand hardly get over 10% "sanctioning" the rest of the world...

-In Ukraine;

Situation south of Bakhmut city: #RussianArmy and #DPR forces advanced west of water channel trying to overrun #UkrainianArmy defenses and consolidate the salient to continue the envelop movement around Klishchiivka/Кліщіївка town. Map: [ https://google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1V8NzjQkzMOhpuLhkktbiKgodOQ27X6IV&ll=48.50224334781187%2C37.92617285812312&z=13 ]

DJ, is Russia going for a major offensive in Eastern Ukraine ? The main Russian goal is destroying Ukraine-and now NATO-military and protecting Russia(ns). There was an agreement-from around 1989 (German reunification) - 1991 (end of Soviet Union-with that Warsaw pact) of NATO NOT moving east...

The excuse NATO comes up with-agreement made with the Soviet Union-NOT with Russia-simply is not acceptable for most of "the rest"...

-https://southfront.org/tragedy-in-dnipro-accident-or-deliberate-crime/ or https://southfront.org/tragedy-in-dnipro-accident-or-deliberate-crime/ ;

The tragedy in Dnipro became an explicit example of the work of Ukrainian propaganda. However, Kiev’s efforts were destroyed by claims of Adviser to the head of the office of Vladimir Zelensky, Alexey Arestovich. In his interview on January 14, Arestovich claimed that the Russian missile fell on the residential building and exploded after it was intercepted by the Ukrainian air defense system.

The Ukrainian political official met a wave of criticism launched by the Ukrainian population which has been brainwashed by Ukrainian media and could not believe that the Ukrainian military is indeed killing its own civilians. Arestovich was also harshly humiliated by the local authorities after he destroyed the fairytale promoted by the Kiev regime.

DJ, weapons are NOT toys...the west supplying gas to "moderate terrorists" in Syria and then blame the Assad-dictatorship for "killing his own people"  is acting stupid...Again-western media going for propaganda are lying to the public and themselves....

-So "more tanks" for Ukraine...lots of different ones from different countries...The reality will be those tanks are gone within a month..... Those tanks failed in other wars (Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon) and modern western weapons need trained people to use them...Ukraine has run out of trained soldiers...most got killed-by Russian artillery and missiles.

If NATO wants regime change in Moscow, ....and in Tehran, Bejing, Pyonyang, Damascus, Havana etc...the only "realistic-insane" option is nuclear strikes on those capitals, try to kill those regimes and then what ?

-The basic idea "the west" has a right to tell "the rest" what to do is "old" neo-colonial...Both India and China have a population of 1,4 billion...the "west" (EU-UK-US) just over 800 million...I disagree with suggestions of a "cultural aspect"https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/emmanuel-todd-on-the-third-world-war.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/emmanuel-todd-on-the-third-world-war.html

https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202301/1283762.shtml or https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202301/1283762.shtml ;

Led by Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi (Al Nuaimi), chairman of The World Muslim Communities Council from the UAE, a delegation including more than 30 Islamic figures and scholars from 14 countries visited Northwest China's Xinjiang region starting on January 8. They went to mosques, the Xinjiang Islamic Institute, bazaars and many other places to communicate with local residents and religious groups in Urumqi, Altay and Kashi and to get a better understanding of the region's development and protection of religious freedom.

DJ, Muslim countries do NOT like seperatism....Are NOT happy with US proxies like "IS"..."The west" misusing any kind of protest in dictatorial states for western goals is a west damaging itself...

Gay rights in the west is NOT a problem for "the rest"...as long as we respect they see things in another way....Russia-Iran-China (RIC) in fact have become-by now-the most powerfull military bloc in the world...NOT NATO !!!!!

Western sanctions did result in "RIC" (like western policies also resulted in BRICS) - with lots of differences...Asia has become the "economic dominant factor" in the world...The west better gets realistic on that...

DJ-The Duran https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExkJ34BDuYA or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExkJ34BDuYA ; Biden classified docs. Twitter Russian bot claim proven false The Duran: Episode 1484

some comments;

Social media is a propaganda tool, there should be no surprise in the ways these CEOs behave. It is really surprising that people are stunned by the Twitter files. One should always be wary of free stuff, no matter its provenance.

“We would be in a completely different world if Russiagate had never happened.”  Well said.

Calling NATO a defensive alliance is like calling Ukraine a democracy.

Much food for thought. Biden will be the scapegoat for sure. So many Thank you's Guys. I stand with Russia and it's values.

DJ "Russia and it's values" I would translate to sticking to agreements...Not going for (even UN approved) Minsk agreements with a double agenda of preparing Ukraine for war...The insane-absurd-criminal false claims of "Putin made trump US president" may have destroyed democracy-made "democrazy" win...

This US insane internal politics (with what looks like finding secret documents for "political" reasons...) -on top of western countries kicking cans down the road-NOT solving anything...from pandemics to climate change...is making the west "a dangerous nuclear risk" for the rest....

Zelensky was elected in Ukraine-to end the war, not to escalate it...In Germany the green party now is supporting coal for energy...https://www.dw.com/en/l%C3%BCtzerath-climate-activists-nearly-cleared-after-clashes/a-64399638 or https://www.dw.com/en/l%C3%BCtzerath-climate-activists-nearly-cleared-after-clashes/a-64399638 ...

DJ-The present German government has lost as good as all of its support...from trade unions to the greens-non of them find German politics any longer working in German interests...And this does reflect the "credibility gap" in most of "the west"...it is more and more becoming an isolated-out of contact-"political elite" increasingly in conflict with their own population....

Alexander Mercouris AM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwQliMyrjPQ or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwQliMyrjPQ a.o. discussing Russian super/hypersonic missiles...Ukraine does not see them coming-trying to bring them down may cause serious civil deaths and damage...

DJ-AM also discusses the US ability to deal with that kind of very high speed weapons; My view; Yes the US may see them coming...but it may have "limited" means to shoot them down...both in numbers of anti-missile weapons and the radar technology....The US -in a larger conflict- maybe could stop most of a first wave of that kind of weapons...but may have run out of means when wave ten comes in....

-Another aspect; IF Russia has so much better weapons why does Russia not end the war, finish Ukraine ?

The Ukraine war is only part of a much wider conflict....

Russia is destroying not only Ukraine but more and more NATO weapons at limited risks

The longer the "west" keeps acting crazy the more the "rest" wants to join Russia, China....

DJ-Why should Russia stop "the west" from destroying itself....From pandemic-denial to endless-high cost-wars....sanctions that damage the west most...Of course there are limits to the "let the west destroy itself strategy"....Escalation towards a nuclear war, a war on Russian/RIC soil is not in the interests of Russia, Iran -or for that matter India (more trade with Russia/Asia at better conditions...) China...but even in those scenario's Russia and China may be better able to deal with it...

Again-in my view-pandemic and wars become related due to "insane" not working strategies....Can the west get adult leaders ? Not crazy sociopath ego's ?

DJ....more and more "the rest" only can come up with one conclusion...End the US....

Pull out out of Afghanistan to prepare for creating war in Ukraine...NATO pulling out of Ukraine to start a war with China....insane ! DJ,

A very long Alexander Mercouris/AM video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0IOvvHoqJg or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0IOvvHoqJg maybe most interesting (my view) after minute 55-Todd/French socio-economic outcome...

DJ-The biden-US provoked NATO-Russia war-in my opinion-is VERY EXISTENTIAL for "the west"...As AM claims western sanctions did become a major tool to force other countries to follow western-de facto US-orders....But over-use of the sanctions pushed Russia-Iran-China (RIC) towards eachother...earlier western one sided "free trade" kept poor countries getting more poor-resulted in BRICS, SCO etc....

So the west -again- breaking agreements with Russia (Minsk) Iran (Iran-deal) and tradewar with China-on top of endless wars in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan may have been to much for "the rest" to deal with...

In my definition "the west" is EU-US-UK (in that order-not only based on population but also economy by PPP) =10% of the global population-"the rest" is 90%...(Others may include Japan, Türkiye, South Korea, Australia...maybe by that definition one could end up by 20% west, 80% rest...but I think that "view" on the "west" is wrong; the "extra countries" are all Asia orientated...have limited room. Their interests may NOT be US-EU interests...Gulf States "swiched sides"....).

https://thesaker.is/all-quiet-panic-on-the-western-front/ or https://thesaker.is/all-quiet-panic-on-the-western-front/ has a good comment/quote;

Total economic collapse of the WEST !

Glazyev: Transition to the new world economic order will likely be accompanied by systematic refusal to honor obligations in dollars, euro, pound, and yen.

In this respect, it will be no different from the example set by the countries issuing these currencies who thought it appropriate to steal foreign exchange reserves of Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, Afghanistan, and Russia to the tune of trillions of dollars.

Since the US, Britain, EU, and Japan refused to honor their obligations and confiscated wealth of other nations which was held in their currencies, why should other countries be obliged to pay them back and to service their loans?

In any case, participation in the new economic system will not be constrained by the obligations in the old one.

Countries of the Global South can be full participants of the new system regardless of their accumulated debts in dollars, euro, pound, and yen.

Even if they were to default on their obligations in those currencies, this would have no bearing on their credit rating in the new financial system.

Nationalization of extraction industry, likewise, would not cause a disruption.

Further, should these countries reserve a portion of their natural resources for the backing of the new economic system, their respective weight in the currency basket of the new monetary unit would increase accordingly, providing that nation with larger currency reserves and credit capacity.

In addition, bilateral swap lines with trading partner countries would provide them with adequate financing for co-investments and trade financing.

DJ..Why would "the rest" of the world still use dollars, Euro's, UK pounds ? They only would do so if it was in their interest....

So https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/boom-saudi-arabia-announces-end-of-us-petro-dollar or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/boom-saudi-arabia-announces-end-of-us-petro-dollar ; The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announces that they officially are open to settling trade for Oil and Natural Gas in currencies other than the US dollar.

"use it or lose it" Non-western countries did give value to fiat currencies by using them in international trade under western terms....They now will go for their own (new) currencies...by that fiat currencies may lose most-if not all- of its value....

DJ-AM claims he was surprised on how Russia managed to deal with western sanctions...I was not ! Again BRICS/SCO/RIC was allready ongoing....

So-how the "west" is losing this war ? What is the damage ?

-The rest lost trust in doing any deals with the west...

-The rest will dump western currencies they can no longer use...

DJ-Lack of imagination is a major problem. Pandemics CAN end civilizations-DID END them in the past....Climate change is a SHORT TERM problem...

In the -avoidable- west-rest confrontation intrinsic value of most western currencies may see the paper/metals have more value then the currencies itself...............

In a worst case scenario western money is worthless...................

Yves Smith asks:

What if Russia Won the Ukraine War but the Western Press Didn’t Notice?

She points to several headlines which, despite decisive Russian victories like its taking of Soledar, present the Ukraine as winning the war:

Nevertheless, Soledar has fallen and the loss of Bakhmut looks baked in, absent horrific Russian errors. The so-called Zelensky line is breaking even before Russia has put its recently-mobilized forces to work in a serious way. Regular commentators are waiting for the Russian hammer to fall, although Russia may simply grind more forcefully by pressing harder at more points along the very long line of contact. Remember one concern on the Russian side is avoiding “winning” in a way that leads to NATO panic and desperate action ... not that the Collective West’s fragile emotional state can be readily managed.

With that context, you’d expect some members of the press to have worked out that things are not going very well for Ukraine and the classic cowboy movie rescue of the calvary riding over the hill (here in the form of tanks and artillery) will be too little, too late.

Instead, the media seems to be trying to integrate snippets of facts on the ground with the heroic tale of inevitable Ukraine victory.

DJ...it would be incorrect to only blame biden for "the end of the west"...trump, obama, the clintons, bush-es etc-most "western leaders" did lead us to this collapse of the west....

The "only way to claim some sort of victory" could be escalation towards a nuclear war....

Are "western leaders" crazy enough for that ? YES !!! They did show their insanity -from left to right- in general to be unlimited.....

Are Russia, China, etc. able to avoid a nuclear end of humans ? Maybe via a first strike ?

I think in present wars Russia, China may demonstrate what their "defenses" can do....maybe some sanity may show up....

https://southfront.org/anti-nato-protests-growing-in-us/ or https://southfront.org/anti-nato-protests-growing-in-us/ ; "NATO IS A WAR MACHINE" -finally some "left wing groups" are waking up....From MLK-linked civil rights to trade unions....

DJ,

I have always been left wing in politics...left wing parties in most of Europe used to be "very critical" if not fully against NATO....https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/wow-just-wow-the-truth-comes-out-in-germany-over-ukraine or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/wow-just-wow-the-truth-comes-out-in-germany-over-ukraine ...somehow "left wing parties" did forget their voters....I was hoping https://www.dw.com/en/german-politics/t-63813230 or https://www.dw.com/en/german-politics/t-63813230 could inform me of any left wing opposition to-again-German tanks fighting Russia....but "no"....German "green party" voters could be demonstrating against brown coal exploration-now promoted by their "green party" in German government....They must feel betrayed....

Also in NL "left wing" parties promote more weapons-more war-for Ukraine...Some even claim "Ukraine has a right to join NATO"...I hardly ever say "never", I however never will vote for a right wing party...But in my definition a right wing party is a pro-NATO party...so maybe I may end up not voting in march regional elections....long time since I did not vote...

So...how far are we from nuclear war?

-Russia is posting air defense a.o. in Moscow, more mobilization of its forces...

-No doubt shelters for the population get prepared further,,,

-I also think Iran, China are preparing for all out war against the US/NATO...

-North Korea may have new allies in a hard-line towards the west...

-Maduro in Venezuela may have more contacts with a.o. Lula-Brazil, but also Argentina, Nicaragua, Cuba etc. to try to keep Latin America out of the coming war...while also trying to work more with Asia...

DJ-There are limits to were escalation can go without crossing more red lines. A NL-MP called for F16's send to Ukraine...western tanks need a trained crew...So western military in western tanks, planes fighting Russia in Ukraine ? Then those tanks, planes return to NATO bases in Poland...if Russia attacks those bases "article 5" has to "stop Russian agression"?

It is NATO moving east that is being stopped by Russia and its allies....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac0ePn-q-aA or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac0ePn-q-aA Hindustan Times-India;

The Ukraine war is about to last a year, but the tanks have not stopped firing. With the conflict getting stretched, there is a continuous rise in the pro-Putin chorus. Former U.S. State Department adviser David L. Phillips claims "Biden and NATO's mistakes led to the Ukraine conflict." According to Phillips, "Russian President Vladimir Putin informed the United States of his plan to attack Ukraine long before the first shot was fired, but the United States failed to take advantage of the many options available to it."Phillips is not alone; Ukraine's exiled opposition leader Viktor Medvedchuk too has lashed out at the West for "seeing Ukraine as a cold war prize." Watch this report for more information.

DJ NATO regime change will NOT stop at Moscow...In many ways it is the "10%-west" against the "90%-rest" confrontation...the rest will NOT accept any new form of western colonialism (and has to find ways to avoid Chinese colonialism...).

There is discussion on "existential war". Russia "needs to win" to survive...some claim "the west" does NOT need to win...https://thesaker.is/global-south-gold-backed-currencies-to-replace-the-us-dollar/ or https://thesaker.is/global-south-gold-backed-currencies-to-replace-the-us-dollar/

The race to replace the dollar

One key takeaway is that energy-intensive major industries are going to be moving to China. Beijing has become a big exporter of Russian liquified natural gas (LNG) to Europe, while India has become a big exporter of Russian oil and refined products such as diesel – also to Europe. Both China and India – BRICS members – buy below market price from fellow BRICS member Russia and resell to Europe with a hefty profit. Sanctions? What sanctions?

Meanwhile, the race to constitute the new currency basket for a new monetary unit is on. This long-distance dialogue between Glazyev and Pozsar will become even more fascinating, as Glazyev will be trying to find a solution to what Pozsar has stated: tapping of natural resources for the creation of the new currency could be inflationary if money supply is increased too quickly.

All that is happening as Ukraine – a huge chasm at a critical junction of the New Silk Road blocking off Europe from Russia/China – slowly but surely disappears into a black void. The Empire may have gobbled up Europe for now, but what really matters geoeconomically, is how the absolute majority of the Global South is deciding to commit to the Russia/China-led block.

Economic dominance of BRICS+ may be no more than 7 years away – whatever toxicities may be concocted by that large, dysfunctional nuclear rogue state on the other side of the Atlantic. But first, let’s get that new currency going.

DJ...maybe BRICS is not ready yet for taking a leading global role...Túrkiye moving towards Russia, China with its own agenda...some eastern European countries moving away from NATO/EU...the "west" is breaking up...A power vacuüm has very major risks...

-Today in Rammstein-Germany western countries will agree to spend even more fiat-currency "in support of the weapon-industry...o yes also Ukraine...". On top of that those western countries did spend billions on higher energy bills...buying Russian energy from India, China, Türkiye...

Western insanity is pushing the west towards bankruptcy high speed....so "lets go nuclear" to stop Russia stop NATO moving east....

Totaly sick !

The New Atlas https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x_lRejO3so or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x_lRejO3so came with a summary of reasons "the west" needs to send tanks to Ukraine....

In february 2022 Ukraine had over 1,000 tanks in its own army...They are gone....To replace them "the west" invested in hundreds of other former Warsaw-pact countries Soviet-era tanks...they are all gone as well...

DJ-Ukraine losses in soldiers are over 155,000 killed, over 300,000 wounded...The trained Ukraine army is gone....

Russian artillery and missiles destroyed most of western artillery, HIMARS etc-in part (mis)used to shell Donetsk killing more Russian-speaking citizens....

So the "NATO idea" is to now provide western tanks....train Ukrainians in a few weeks to deal with a lot of different western weapons...total insanity !

https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/great-just-great-look-at-what-our-tens-of-millions-for-each-tank-gets-us or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/great-just-great-look-at-what-our-tens-of-millions-for-each-tank-gets-us

You want to see first hand how we've been getting bilked by the military-industrial complex?   Our Abrams tanks . . .  you know, our main battle tanks . . .  can't go up hills in the snow.  They skid and slide backwards.

This is what Six to nine MILLION DOLLARS EACH buys us?

DJ the point https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/ukraine-pressing-for-tanks.html or https://www.moonofalabama.org/2023/01/ukraine-pressing-for-tanks.html is the US wants to blame Germany, Europe, for not providing enough "help" to keep Ukraine destroying itself/fighting.....losing this insane criminal war...

Three hundred and thirty-first day of combats began with #RussianArmy launching new offensive on Zaporizhia front towards T-08 road and took control over many positions within the no mans land around the city of Orejov/Оріхів thus taking control over the town of Mali Shcherbaky.

DJ, Russia may have lost over 20,000 of its soldiers. This very likely excludes militia, Vagner-PMC, Chechen forces-most of the time not included in the Russian army.

A likely scenario is Russia now moving into Ukraine from the south and (later on) north to use the Dnjepr-river as a natural defense-bringing the east of Ukraine under their control. So far most of the Russian effort was to "de-militarize" Ukraine...destroying its army...

Per day Ukraine uses/loses more munition and weapons then the west can/could produce in a month....Ukraine did lose this war-it is an insane biden keeping this war going "because Putin made trump president".....

So more western weapons-provided to untrained Ukraine men and women, also with "lots of western volinteers/advisors" may make this war go on another month ?

And then ?

Even more escalation-more insanity ?

Financed with fiat-currency...also needed to pay a corrupt Kiev-nazi regime ? Also needed to pay for high energy costs-importing Russian refined products from India, Türkiye, China ?

There are limits to even total insanity....

Through political back-channels, Russia has informed Germany that if German tanks attack Russian soil, it will be a violation of the Potsdam Treaty that ended World War Two.   That Treaty makes clear Germany is only allowed to have a "Defense Force" which can be used "for nothing else."   Manufacturing tanks which are then sent to Ukraine to fight Russia, would be using the German military for "something else" and Russia's position is that will violate the Demilitarization" provisions of the Potsdam Treaty.  Russia allegedly told Germany that if German tanks attack Russian soil "World War 3 will begin immediately.

-

So Russia views the territories as Russian soil, the West does not.  If Ukraine is given German tanks and use those tanks to attack "Russian Soil" it will re-start World War 2, or be known as "World War 3."

That is how close the entire world is to horrifying war on a vast scale, and we all get to hear the decision about the German tanks, today.

DJ, Since Bejing, Tehran, very likely Ankara, New Delhi know they will be next on the list of NATO agression -it is a war to control natural resources, energy...but also to maintain the petro-dollar- support of "the rest" for Russia may become even more open...

Even with western aid the -once- Ukraine army is facing such a destruction it soon may be unable to fight....logistics, supplies gone...economy destroyed...and for what ?

Once Ukraine gets they were used on a basis of insane claims "Putin made trump US president" they may decide the "west"is their enemy...

In Europe growing social unrest....lots of refugees from NATO wars come on top of an ongoing housing crisis, worsen even more the healthcare crisis, push the west to unseen levels of inflation....One of the reasons I do not see polls on "NATO-Ukraine" is because those polls-as far as they were held-were very bad...

Even with "stream lined free press propaganda" support for this insane war is very limited....At the end this is "the west" destroying itself....

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

DJ,

Let me start with https://cms.zerohedge.com/s3/files/inline-images/2023-01-21_11-45-52.jpg?itok=e7LCJcP7 or https://cms.zerohedge.com/s3/files/inline-images/2023-01-21_11-45-52.jpg?itok=e7LCJcP7  a view on polarization in different countries,  NL, Germany, Italy, Japan, Canada , Australia in one cluster-yes there are divisions, some countries may be at risk for "over polarization"....Sweden, South Africa, US, Colombia find themselves on the wrong side of a "polarization" line...

In a democracy there has to be room for different views...lots of them may be a sign of a healthy democracy...For that matter I think I am very happy, lucky to be born in the NetherLands...

On this forum disagreements should be the basics...discussions, sharing info, has to be the motor...But activity here is very limited-so I find people/views to disagree with on the internet...

Alexander Mercouris AM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjQG7uOKEYg or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjQG7uOKEYgRussia Offensive Zaporozhye Makes Fast Gains, Ukraine Faces Operational Crisis Bakhmut; German No To Tanks for Kiev Topic 737

DJ,

AM ends his -just under 1 hour- video with the claim "the west" has to talk with Russia on peace....DJ-The Ukraine war is a war of NATO in Ukraine against Russia...

So it is NOT only Ukraine that is losing the war it is "the west", NATO...the 10% US-UK-EU against the 90% "rest"....It is INCORRECT to ignore the anger and frustration in China, India...

https://ejmagnier.com/2023/01/18/if-russia-loses-china-is-next-on-the-us-list/ or https://ejmagnier.com/2023/01/18/if-russia-loses-china-is-next-on-the-us-list/ "the west" used the post Soviet Union decades since 1991 to go for regime change wars all over the globe...Breaking up Yugoslavia-because it came to close to Russia in its ideas, trying to break up Syria, Iraq...an insane war in Afghanistan (Osama bin Laden-ex-CIA, at the end was murdered by US special forces in Pakistan...).

I do not even agree with https://ejmagnier.com/2023/01/22/ukraine-follows-in-koreas-footsteps-there-will-be-neither-peace-nor-war-in-the-future/ or https://ejmagnier.com/2023/01/22/ukraine-follows-in-koreas-footsteps-there-will-be-neither-peace-nor-war-in-the-future/ .....

The "west" ignored-by choice-all the red lines...not only from Russia but also from China...at the end the west did make an Iran-deal only to break an Iran-deal....It was the west that used it currencies as a weapon, went for economic-sanctions-war fare if it did not get what it wanted...It is "the west" keeping the rest poor by trade at unfair conditions...exploiting "low incomes"...outsourcing jobs and industry...we made ourselves very vulnerable...

The idea that "the west" still has any basis for "peace talks with only Russia" is like a neighbour killing the wife and children next door and then asking "can we talk"....Since 1991 "the west" has been responsible for conflicts killing millions in countries we kept poor-to enforce the "petro-dollar", western "rights" on oil and gas...

So "can we talk" after murdering millions ? What do you think....

-The "west", NATO, is losing in Ukraine...the US, its allies got kicked out of Afghanistan...(not in preparation for starting the Ukraine provocation...The Afghan-war since 2001 had its own dynamics...). In Syria https://southfront.org/u-s-central-command-says-three-one-way-drones-attacked-al-tanf-garrison-in-syria/ or https://southfront.org/u-s-central-command-says-three-one-way-drones-attacked-al-tanf-garrison-in-syria/ de facto Iran already is at war with the US...Türkiye may join Iran to "control the Kurds"...Russia is -so far- stopping major war...(Putin and Netanyahu-Israel PM are friends...).

Lots of military warn NATO countries are running out of weapons by sending large amounts of it to Ukraine...worse-since a lot of the basics to replace the weapons send to Ukraine -has to come from a.o. China it is gettin harder and harder to even replace those weapons...

MoA, AM mention the "tank-discussion" between Germany (very low on tanks even for self defense, W.W.2-history) and the US (lots of tanks in storage...) as a "blame game" -because "Ukraine de facto has lost the war"....

Another aspect is the economy....The west no longer buys Russian energy from Russia ! That will teach them ! So...the west is now buying energy-made from Russian oil & gas-as diesel, LNG etc. from China, India, Türkiye....

NATO "unity"...another sick joke...A neo-nazi burning the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quran or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quran in front of the Turkish embassy in Sweden....Hungary wants Ukraine to respect the rights of Hungarians living in Ukraine....

Poland-under an extremist catholic anti-EU government-is over its ears in the Ukraine war...So far at least 6 US citzens died fighting in Ukraine...the Polish war-deaths from this Ukraine war may be in the thousends....So-Poland will use German-made tanks in its "secret" war with Russia...supported by the Baltic States, US, UK...maybe even Finland...

There are all kinds of legal rules getting broken...Rules on international banking-western countries stealing Russian owned money from western controlled banks...Of course no other country with some brains will put any major money at western banks...To Germany, Finland breaking agreements made in 1945 at the end of World War Two....In 1991 there was an agreement NATO would not move one inch east...the west claims since the Soviet Union is gone that agreement has gone....

-Where does this "leave us"? As citizens betrayed by politics-for sale, media-for sale ?

The rest of the world is finished in making deals with a western elite only good at breaking deals.....Their short term goal is to limit the west being able to start/exploit further conflicts...

So "peace talks" with the "west" will mean -de facto- a surrender of "the west"....

DJ-I would love to see a world without nuclear weapons...I wonder if any country is willing to give up that kind of "protection"....The rest may demand the US,UK,France give up their nuclear weapons....

The "rest" wants an end to NATO....de facto the North Atlantic Terrorist Organization...working with IS, alquaida, neo-nazi's...https://southfront.org/escalation-continues-in-northwestern-syria/ or https://southfront.org/escalation-continues-in-northwestern-syria/ ; Army troops raided a position of Firqat al-Ghuraba, an al-Qaeda-affiliated group that is mainly made up of French and Belgian jihadists, in the mountainous area of al-Zawiya in the southern countryside of Idlib.

DJ, NATO still supporting IS jihadi's "exported" from Europe by western intel to Türkiye-who else is funding them ? Gulf States, Türkiye both see those jihadi-groups now as a problem...

The basic problem is "the rest" no longer has any reason for even some trust in the west...So-the rest does want to take over the west...Its industry and universities under non-western control...Ports, infrastructure in (Asian) hands....

Trust is gone-is the main damage...not only in international affairs but alsi in the west itself...Most of the population NEVER voted for a war with Russia ! They did not even think such a war was likely....so how can "we" trust "our" media, "our" democracy-so easy becoming a "democrazy" any longer.

The west is facing a major internal crisis....

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

DJ,

Alex Christoforou (AF) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT-OfSt_FBg or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gT-OfSt_FBg  Austin turning point. Release the Leopards. Spring offensive. Borrell, history says Russia wins. U/1 Topic 843 had some interesting points;

-Ukraine (US/UK) preparing long range strikes against Crimea, Moscow ????  (min. 29) DJ-There has been lots of news on the US offering "help" to attack Crimea. In practice it means the US sends the weapon, info on target...an Ukraine finger pushes the button/pulls the trigger....Larger attacks on Russia would be crossing yet another red line...meant to provoke "more Russian agression"...

-borell , EU foreign policy ( or lack of it) US-Austin defense secretary in fact both make a point on Russia being strong...kirby even claims North Korea is sending weapons...

DJ, After NApoleon, NAzi's making the mistake of attacking Russia now NAto is repeating that mistake...Why is it a mistake ?

-Russia is NOT isolated, the longer this conflict lasts-for now-the more allies Russia is getting....The idea of isolating North Korea was NOT an idea of Russia and China-but came from the west...So -that west now claiming Russia is working with terrorist states like North Korea, Iran may be talking to people that hated Russia anyway...Most countries see this war as NATO expansion, provocation...just another NATO war...Most of the world see the west, NATO as the problem...

-China, Iran, Syria, Cuba, others know they are also on the US/NATO regime change list...

IF Russia was isolated and most of the world would have joined "the west" in this war Russia could get beaten...After the 1917 revolution Russia ended up in a major civil war. US, Japan forces landed in Wladiwostok, "the west" supported anti-communist groups...A complication was the Polish, Ukraine and other wars-outcome of collapse of Austria-Hungary and Germany...

Besides that western colonial power did get challenged; Germany lost its colonies, nationalism, self determination did get fresh energy in Africa and Asia (Ho Chi Minh hoped the US would support Vietnam getting rid of France...well Wilson decided in an other way...).

-----

Poland will start training Ukraine military on Leopard-German made-tanks...DJ-The reality may be Poland sending in Leopard tanks with "Polish volunteers"....

NL would have offered F16's to Ukraine....https://nltimes.nl/2023/01/20/netherlands-consider-helping-ukraine-f-16-fighters-leopard-2-tanks or https://nltimes.nl/2023/01/20/netherlands-consider-helping-ukraine-f-16-fighters-leopard-2-tanks ;

The Dutch Cabinet will look into supplying F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine if the Kyiv government asks for it. During a parliamentary debate on Thursday, Minister Wopke Hoekstra of Foreign Affairs said the Cabinet would look at such a request with an “open mind.” In Davos, Minister Kajsa Ollongren of Defense also said that the Netherlands is willing to help pay for modern Leopard 2 tanks that other countries send to Ukraine. “That is certainly something we are willing to do,” she told Bloomberg.

Hoekstra said there are “no taboos” for the delivery of regular equipment. Sjoerd Sjoerdsma (D66) asked the Cabinet to supply F16s and infantry fighting vehicles to the Ukrainian armed forces. Many fear that Russia will launch another major offensive in the coming months.

According to Hoekstra, the Netherlands only sends items that Ukraine asks for. Kyiv currently mainly needs heavy weapons. The country has been asking for modern battle tanks for some time. Poland and Finland want to send the German Leopard 2 tanks, but they need permission from Germany.

DJ....the US has "no problem" with "allies" offering "US made fighter jets" to Ukraine...What is left of the Ukraine air force now is using Mig-29's....over 50 years old...NL is replacing F16's with the "JSF F35"....(I believe the idea was to sell those old F16's to Türkiye...Türkiye, like Saudi Arabia is moving away from the west high speed...). Training pilots takes time...Ukraine does not have that time...so "western volunteer pilots" will join "the Ukraine air force" (made up from western supplied planes...).

-If those planes use Ukraine Air Force signs-stay in Ukraine-land on Ukraine Air bases damage may be limited...Russia will shoot down those planes, just like they will destroy western tanks...

-IF those planes, tanks etc however use Polish, Romanian air bases de facto Poland, Romania get involved -openly- in the war...

Since "western advisors/instructors" are already very active in Ukraine, the Ukraine Army now has tens-of-thousends "western volunteers"  the Ukraine War simply is escalating further...

--------------

DJ, A few major questions;

-Russian allies have to decide what role they want to play and when, where, to play that role. Iran, Syria, North Korea already -more or less- are in a -sort of open- war with the west...

https://tass.com/russia/1565487 or https://tass.com/russia/1565487 ;

MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. The West will be ready to make endless attempts at mauling or destroying Russia, and a new military alliance may emerge globally, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel on Sunday.

and  https://www.telesurenglish.net/news/President-Lula-Begins-First-International-Tour-in-Argentina-20230122-0002.html or https://www.telesurenglish.net/news/President-Lula-Begins-First-International-Tour-in-Argentina-20230122-0002.html ; Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will arrive in Argentina this Sunday on his first official trip after taking office as head of state on the 1st of this month to participate in the 7th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

and https://www.as-coa.org/articles/argentina-hosts-7th-celac-summit-amid-new-presidential-landscape or https://www.as-coa.org/articles/argentina-hosts-7th-celac-summit-amid-new-presidential-landscape ;On January 24, Latin America’s leaders will descend upon Buenos Aires for the seventh iteration of the CELAC Leaders’ Summit. CELAC, or the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, is a multilateral group of 33 countries from across the Western Hemisphere that excludes Canada and the United States. This year’s round comes at a time when regional integration is a major focus for many of the hemisphere’s leaders, including newly inaugurated President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He heads to Argentina to lead Brazil rejoining of the group following a two-year absence. And, though the group was originally founded to sidestep U.S. influence, Washington will be present this time around; U.S. Special Presidential Advisor for the Americas Chris Dodd will attend. AS/COA Online explores CELAC’s evolution and this year’s Summit in Buenos Aires.

DJ, The US tried to isolate Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua...The US was behind regime change in Bolivia, recent in Peru...Lula ended up in prison-bolsenaro as "president" because of the US...Maduro-Venezuela- is calling for "Latin America" to work with Russia and China...DJ-Another point may be restoring peace in Peru after the US coup there...

-----------

The US wants to get rid of Erdogan in Türkiye...major problem however is most Turkish parties are fed up with "the west"...burning Quran's "as freedom of speech" is an insult for the Islamic world (or basic decency...I am against religions...but I am also against public burning of Bibles, Quran, Thora etc...). In Pakistan the US succeded in getting rid of Imran Khan-for now-however his replacement one of first actions was a visit to Moscow to get fertilizer....

The major enemy of the west is its own arrogance...The "west" claim to be above any law...others have to follow -basic- US orders....Even the very divided EU may no longer accept that...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Supporters of the US empire have spent months posting dog memes and accusing strangers of being paid by Putin. It’s clear who’s in the right.

So does everyone else in the world get a vote on whether their lives should be risked in an offensive to control who governs Crimea? Or will the Biden administration just be making that call on behalf of all living creatures?

It’s so crazy how the fate of everyone alive and everyone who could potentially be born in the future is riding on the way two governments choose to navigate a conflict in Ukraine, just because those two governments have most of the world’s nuclear weapons. It’s like two people in a bar getting into a brawl that kills everyone in their city. Nobody else in the world gets a vote on the decisions being made that could kill everyone alive and end humanity forever; just a few people within those two governments and their militaries.

DJ....who has to pay for endless NATO wars ? Well-at the end we do...! First via tax, now via inflation, next will be with our freedoms...at the end with our lives....

I know I did not vote to get killed in an insane nuclear war....I NEVER voted for any political right to make such a choice...but yet here we are...most of the west ruled by increasingly unpopular "governments" running out of support more and more...

Strikes for better pay, at least compensation for inflation....When will "governments" claim trade unions are "terrorist organizations" ? When does a demand NOT to be pushed into poverty gets treated like a "pro-Putin stand"...

-------

The basic idea of "the west" -let me be more clear I blame biden..."Russia-gate" insanity-Putin made trump US president-h.clinton did see her election stolen "by Russia"-was Russia is weak...

-1 Sanctions will break them...well it did not...

-2 Showing military support for Ukraine will shock the Russians-start an anti-Putin uprising...Putin has now more support in Russia then ever before...more then ANY !!!! western "leader" even can dream of....

So ....both sanctions and sending tens of billions in money (most) and weapons to Ukraine so far resulted in the west getting weaker....

-3 ...More money, more weapons, more "western volunteers" using western weapons to Ukraine....Of course that only will increase pressure on western economies....so more strikes to ignore, more social unrest....

-4 More and more the idea/plan may be "Ukraine=NATO" striking Crimea/Moscow may push Russia towards attacking the west...Then "the public" will see "evil Russia"....so -more western extremism, more provocations" to "save democrazy"....

-----------------------

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_strike or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/February_strike ;

The February strike (DutchFebruaristaking) was a general strike in the German-occupied Netherlands in 1941, during World War II. It was organised by the outlawed Communist Party of the Netherlands in defence of persecuted Dutch Jews and against the anti-Jewish measures and the activities of the Nazism in general.

-

After the pogrom, on 24 February, an open-air meeting was held on the Noordermarkt to organise a strike to protest against the pogrom and the forced labour to Germany. The Communist Party of the Netherlands, which was made illegal by the Germans, printed and spread a call to strike throughout the city the next morning. The first to strike were the city's tram drivers, followed by other city services as well as companies like De Bijenkorf and schools. Eventually 300,000 people joined in the strike, which brought much of the city to a halt and caught the Germans by surprise.[4]

The Germans immediately took measures to suppress the strike, which had grown spontaneously as other workers followed the example of the tram drivers, but it still spread to other areas, including Zaanstad and Kennemerland in the west; BussumHilversum and Utrecht in the east; and in the south.[5]

The strike did not last long. By 27 February, much of it had been suppressed by the German police. Although ultimately unsuccessful, it was significant in that it was the first and only large-scale direct action against the Nazis' treatment of Jews in Europe.

The next strikes would be student strikes in November 1941 and the large April–May strikes in 1943, which ushered in a period of armed covert resistance on a national scale.

In the rest of Nazi-occupied Europe, the Greeks in April 1942,[6] the Danes from the summer of 1943, the Luxemburgers in August 1942, the Belgians in May 1941, the Norwegians in September 1941 and the Northern French miners in May–June 1941 also later went on strike. However, the February strike 1941 in Amsterdam was the only strike against how Jews were treated by the Germans in Nazi-occupied Europe.

DJ The Dutch story https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Februaristaking#Be%C3%ABindiging or https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Februaristaking#Be%C3%ABindiging gives a glimp of how the february strike was ended. Nine strikers were killed-executed on the spot....24 strikers were severely wounded, lots of strikers got arrested...some of them dying in prisons or camps...(https://februaristaking.nl/geschiedenis/ or https://februaristaking.nl/geschiedenis/ )

In february 1941 the Soviet Union and Germany still were not at war....(but a lot of German communists, trade union workers etc. did end up in Dachau concentrationcamp already in 1933...). So Dutch communists organizing a strike against nazi hunt on Jews went against both German and Soviet ideas...

-When you look at how protests did get broken later on-after 1945...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_massacre_of_1961 or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_massacre_of_1961 ;

Despite these raids, 4,000 to 5,000 people succeeded in demonstrating peacefully on the Grands Boulevards from République to Opéra, without incident. Blocked at Opéra by police forces, the demonstrators backtracked. Reaching the Rex cinema (the site of the present Le Rex Club on the "Grands Boulevards"), the police opened fire on the crowd and charged, leading to several deaths. On the Neuilly bridge (separating Paris from the suburbs), the police detachments and FPA members also shot at the crowd, killing some. Algerians were thrown into and drowned in the Seine at points across the city and its suburbs, most notably at the Pont Saint-Michel in the centre of Paris and near the Prefecture of Police, very close to Notre Dame de Paris.

During the night, a massacre took place in the courtyard of the police headquarters, killing tens of victims. In the Palais des Sports, then in the "Parc des Expositions of Porte de Versailles", detained Algerians, many by now already injured, [became] systematic victims of a 'welcoming committee'. In these places, considerable violence took place and prisoners were tortured. Men would be dying there until the end of the week. Similar scenes took place in the Coubertin stadium… The raids, violence and drownings would continue over the following days. For several weeks, unidentified corpses were discovered along the river banks. The victims of the massacre can be estimated to at least 200 fatalities.[21]

see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_massacre_of_1961#8_February_1962_Charonne_massacre or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_massacre_of_1961#8_February_1962_Charonne_massacre

On 8 February 1962, another demonstration against the OAS, which had been prohibited by the state, was repressed at Charonne metro station (Affaire de la station de métro Charonne). Nine members of the CGT trade union, most of them French Communist Party members, were killed by the police forces, directed by Maurice Papon under the same government, with Roger Frey as Minister of Interior, Michel Debré as Prime Minister and Charles de Gaulle as president, who did all they could to "hide the scale of the 17 October crime" (Jean-Luc Einaudi[29]). The funerals on 13 February 1962 of the nine persons killed (among them, Fanny Dewerpe, mother of French historian Alain Dewerpe [fr]) were attended by hundreds of thousands of people.[30][31][32] On 8 February 2007 the Place du 8 Février 1962, a square near the metro station, was dedicated by Bertrand Delanoë, the mayor of Paris, after sprays of flowers were deposited at the foot of a commemorative plaque installed inside the metro station where the killings occurred.

Reporting[edit]

According to James J. Napoli, coverage of the massacre by major British and American media sources, such as The TimesTime magazine and The New York Times, downplayed the severity of the massacre as well as the Paris government's responsibility for the events.[33]

and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Papon or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Papon

Maurice Papon (French pronunciation: [mɔʁis papɔ̃, moʁ-]; 3 September 1910 – 17 February 2007) was a French civil servant who led the police in major prefectures from the 1930s to the 1960s, before he became a Gaullist politician. When he was secretary general for the police in Bordeaux during World War II, he participated in the deportation of more than 1,600 Jews. He is also known for his activities in the Algerian War (1954–1962), during which he tortured insurgent prisoners as prefect of the Constantinois department, and ordered, as prefect of the Paris police, the deadly repression of a pro-National Liberation Front (FLN) demonstration against a curfew that he had "advised."

In 1961, Maurice Papon was personally awarded the Legion of Honour by French President Charles de Gaulle, whose government had been struggling with the FLN insurgency. Papon was also in charge of the Paris police during the Paris massacre of 1961 and the February 1962 massacre at the Charonne metro station,

DJ...of course the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(1972) or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Sunday_(1972) Bloody Sunday, or the Bogside Massacre,[1] was a massacre on 30 January 1972 when British soldiers shot 26 unarmed civilians during a protest march in the Bogside area of Derry,[n 1] Northern Ireland. Fourteen people died: thirteen were killed outright, while the death of another man four months later was attributed to his injuries

just indicate the amount of violence is willing to use openly to silence protests...Under cover actions, secret police are other ways to "silence critics"....https://www.france24.com/en/france/20230119-live-france-hit-by-strikes-protests-as-unions-fight-macron-s-pension-overhaul or https://www.france24.com/en/france/20230119-live-france-hit-by-strikes-protests-as-unions-fight-macron-s-pension-overhaul ...also now reports of riot police violence...

January 24, I am NOT a historian or claim to be any kind of other "expert"...just give my opinion/view...

Military Summary (MS) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAQKSCJlJ68 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAQKSCJlJ68 believes Russia may have decided to blow up all the bridges over the Dnjepr-river. In that way splitting Ukraine in two parts.

-If I did get it right his (MS) idea is Russia giving up on the western part of Ukraine-Kiev is on the western side of the Dnjepr (however with some of the urban area east of that river...several bridges connect the urban area).

-Ukraine has to now buy time before more western help will come. MS claims Ukraine now mobilizing another 100,000 men.

DJ-Hungary is complaining over the ethnic Hungarians living in the Ukraine-Hungary border area being forced into the Ukraine military. Another point is-maybe Ukraine still can "organize" another 100,000 "men" (age 15+ ?) - these men may be of very limited military value....

(just to provide some links...lots of stories...).

DJ, Both "the west" and "the rest" are not giving in. Some analists claim this war only would be "existential" for Russia/Putin...I-DJ-disagree...this conflict is about the "west" dominating "the rest"...via Petro-dollars, unbalanced global trade...

Some claim NATO/US pulled out of Afghanistan to only start "problems" in Ukraine. I also disagree here..the war-since 2001-in Afghanistan was extremely costly without much profits...The US (and NATO) at least can steal oil in Syria and Iraq...The "stategic value" of western occupation of Afghanistan did decrease over time...Pakistan developed a "very good" relation with China-providing (rail)road links to the Indian Ocean for China...India-Iran-Russia trade-via the Caspian Sea did get big...Also TIP-Türkiye-Iran-Pakistan (rail)road projects linked China with the EU...

The US goal is to preserve the US$ and its position as "only superpower"....However reality now is Russia-Iran-China in many ways may outcompete the US/NATO...

The Middle East, the West Pacific are other frontlines in the "west-rest" conflict....

Maybe the "good news" could be a lot of "fighting" is in non-military setting;

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/erdogan-tells-sweden-dont-expect-join-nato-after-quran-burning-incident or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/erdogan-tells-sweden-dont-expect-join-nato-after-quran-burning-incident DJ-The only reason Türkiye still is in NATO is because Türkiye still can use NATO for its goals...There may come a point where Türkiye may switch sides...move closer to Iran and/or Russia...

Lots of countries-a growing number-go for national interests first. From India, Saudi Arabia to Israël-very likely lots of others-go for "balancing" between Russia/China and "the west"...

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/brazil-argentina-holding-talks-over-possible-common-currency or https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/brazil-argentina-holding-talks-over-possible-common-currency DJ-Argentina has very high level of inflation...but the BRICS want to go for their own currency...Brazil is already the "B" of BRICS...Russia, India, China, South Africa have to decide on a list of possible new members...Argentina, Saudi Arabia are on the list...But SCO may be an alternative for the BRICS...

DJ-My view in short;

-US-energy linked dollar is already over

-In a military sense Russia-China (and allies) already is the dominant global factor

-The west has problems accepting this

-That west only may be able to change the situation via nuclear blackmail...

DJ-The "poker-game" in this conflict has a very high risk of ending in nuclear war within months.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

DJ,

https://thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/current-time/ or https://thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/current-time/ ;

This year, the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists moves the hands of the Doomsday Clock forward, largely (though not exclusively) because of the mounting dangers of the war in Ukraine. The Clock now stands at 90 seconds to midnight—the closest to global catastrophe it has ever been.

DJ, In my view it is already 10 seconds to midnight...We are on our way to be in a nuclear conflict within months if there are no major changes in policies. (In lots of ways I disagree with the bulletin pro-US views...).

The basic conflict has become a "west-rest" global conflict...

West is uni-polar, US dominance, US-energy-dollar

Rest in multi-polar, BRICS, SCO international cooperation, energy no longer (most) in US-dollar...

Most attention goes to Ukraine war but the military conflict is also already ongoing in Syria, Iraq. The major conflict very likely will be in East Asia/West Pacific. Taiwan, South China Sea, Korea, Kurils (Russia-Japan) all are part of that conflict...

More economic are OPEC+ with countries like Saudi Arabia/Gulf, Venezuela, Indonesia moving away from the US dollar...India, China major energy consumers also dropping the US-dollar...

The result is a currency-conflict. The value of Dollar, Pound, Euro is funded by global energy-deals in US dollars...If that ends western fiat-currency could end up worthless...Western economies are debt-based...The rest of the world want currencies based on "real goods" ; gold, energy, possibly infra-structure...

DJ-In many ways "the west" is in DEFENSE..."the rest" is "growing stronger" each day...In Iraq, Libya (Qadaffi had a plan for a "Golden Dinar"-to be used all over Africa), "the west/NATO" could kick out regimes not following western orders...In Venezuela, Syria those plans failed....

So the "west" is DEFENDING the energy-linked western currencies, the power over global energy and banking...control over mining, minerals..China is the major competitor...NOT Russia...

DJ, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9MMPHd8Bwk or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9MMPHd8Bwk New Atlas (NA);

Update on Russian-Ukrainian conflict for January 23, 2023 + Pakistan train bombing as part of US proxy war on China.

- Russian forces are reportedly advancing in Zaporozhye while Ukraine continues losing ground around  Bakhmut;

- Russian pushes in Zaporozhye could be (1) recon in force, (2) extending existing security zone ahead of actual Russian front line or (3) spoiling attacks on forces assembling for a future offensive;

- Ukrainian losses are severe and Reuters is reporting on supposed warnings by the US to Ukraine about going on the offensive;

- Weapon shipments have been announced for Ukraine including a significant US DoD package, as well as all of Denmark’s Caesar self-propelled howitzers and all of Estonia’s FH-70 towed howitzers;

- A recent bombing targeting a train in southwest Pakistan is part of a long-term proxy conflict waged by Washington against China and its Belt and Road partners; - The US has promoted separatism in Pakistan’s southwest region of Baluchistan for years specifically to block Chinese-Pakistani cooperation and development;

The New Atlas (NA) earlier described western tanks as not a major military problem for Russia...most of those tanks did not do very well in other conflicts...However a question is who will be driving/using those tanks...training for those weapons may take up over a year...DJ-Will western tanks moving into Ukraine be driven by western "volunteers" ?

DJ-Other potential risks;

-Belarus could block NATO weapons moving into Ukraine-possibly starting a war with Poland and/or Baltic States

-Eventough Netanyahu is friends with Putin Israel still may start a major war with Iran.

-North Korea "may go to far"..."testing missiles" ending them up in Japan..even Guam ?

-More US coups in Latin America (the US coup in Peru yet another problem) may result in increase of unrest in Latin America (civil wars between a western supported "European" elite against native American population, Afro-Americans, trade unions etc.)

-Inflation is getting worse-most western countries already face a lot of strikes, unrest over inflation...Most voters feel betrayed.."left wing parties" turn out to be pro war...

-And-of course- the pandemic is NOT over...every time symptomatic cases decrease "politics/media-for-sale" claim the pandemic is over..."Omicron" ( "we" will see ALL new variants still be named "Omicron"...) has developed into an immunity evading and immunity eroding group of "thousends" of sub-variants...We stopped testing/sequencing...

So-my question is will we survive 2023 ? For now the answer is "NO" -we have to STOP self-destruction NOW !!!!

Also discussion of a "no fly zone" over (Western) Ukraine, a risk of Poland (others) "moving their borders east" and claiming parts of West Ukraine, could bring further escalation...

Let me go for a -today- part 2...

New Atlas (NA)-like many others-stressing the "Ukraine" conflict is part of a much wider conflict-US goal is to keep US#1...

Lots of miltary experts (like NA) underline more western weapons for Ukraine;

-so far (a.o. HIMARS etc.) did NOT make a difference

-weapons like tanks, artillery without training may be useless

-DJ-Sending in more western weapons run by western volunteers, advisors and instructors also of "limited use"

-Ukraine simply is a large country...getting "modern western weapons' from poland to the frontline has to cross up to 1000 kilometer/600 miles of Ukraine

-Logistics inside Ukraine is a very major issue

-DJ-a lot of "new western weapons" may get destroyed on their way to the frontlines...

-Also lots of military experts warn western armies now running out of means to deal with any conflict with a "land-army"...

-Ukraine has lost its most experienced military...

Where will this bring us ?

Further escalation -in Ukraine- could see more western air power, maybe even western navies getting involved....but even then the Ukraine war is becoming a costly swamp.

Western "political leadership" is now based on wishfull thinking..."Hopes" that Russia is running out of means to fight a war...Reality however (my view) is that Russia is switching from a "Special Military Operation (SMO)/Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO)" into all out war...Russia only just started...

Worse...Russia is NOT isolated, has energy, natural resources, industry to replace weapons lost with new weapons...That is much harder-if not impossible- for "the west"...

Only in the early phase of the conflict Russia did NOT go for artillery/missiles as their main weapon...Most Ukraine soldiers getting killed NEVER did see any (pro)Russian fighter..."long distance killing" is the main part of Russian strategy...Ukraine is "outgunned"...and "outgunned that bad" that western help in Ukraine simply can not change the outcome...

--------

So to stop Eur-Asian integration, stop Latin America, Africa moving towards the Russia-Iran-China (RIC) alliance another strategy is needed..

All out air strikes by NATO on Russian targets in Ukraine...further attacks on Russia-will bring a Russian response of Russian airforce/missiles going (even more) for western targets...I think NATO does see that as to big of a risk...Both for escalation into a nuclear war or Russian missiles destroying lots of NATO infrastructure (in western Europe that is...Poland, Germany, NL/DK-ports, UK...)

So...if you lose one war start another-is the western way of working...

In RIC-Iran is the weakest part..

Another escalation could be Israel/US air strikes on Iran to destroy the Russia-Iran-India energy route, destroy Türkiye-Iran-Pakistan links between China and the EU. With Iran nuclear plans as an excuse...(o yes..the west cares about protesters...realy ? Please wake up !)

The US plan for Iran is turning it into another Yugoslavia. Splitting it up in a Kurdish State, Baluchistan-also including the Pakistan port in use by China, Iran port in use by India, Azerbaijan taking over NW Iran etc...

To avoid a land war-the west ran out of tools for that-"breaking Iran" has to be an Air/Navy operation...

So far Tehran was not willing to accept Russian/Chinese (permanent) bases...Russia had limited use of Iran air bases for supplies to/from Syria. Iran also is buying more modern Russian (and other ?) weapons...So the longer the wait, the stronger Iran gets...

DJ-I would not be surprised if Israel/US started an Iran-war in february...

Of course that has major risks;

-Iran also is a large country

-Iran is prepared for war-will strike at Israel, US bases when they see a major attack coming

-Türkiye, Pakistan, India, China, Russia will not be pleased...become even more hostile...

An air/navy war against Iran has to do a lot of damage in a first strike...Since Iran is prepared for war-gets lots of intel from Russia, China, India, Türkiye there is a risk that Iran could see the western attack coming. With help of allies Iran could react in such a hard way "the west" may lose a lot of sea/air power...

If the western first strike -very likely- fails to "destroy Iran"-the west ended up in another major war...

-----

Iran has held navy-drills with Russia and China...(Souh Africa has held drills with Russia, Russian long distance bombers visited Indonesia, Venezuela...). Iran is a strategic partner not only for Russia and China-but as energy link between Russia and India also for India...

Türkiye does NOT want a Kurdish state at its border, Pakistan, Afghanistan are not waiting for a western puppet state "Baluchinstan"...

DJ-So a major western attack on Iran may see the west in conflict with lots of countries...

It would be an insane thing to do...just as insane as provoking Russia by claiming Ukraine is part of NATO-even has a right for its nuclear weapons (as zelensky claimed after the Munich security conference...)...

Again "wishfull unrealism" "one strike-out"-insanity, stopping Eur-Asian integration (India buying Russian energy-no longer using the US$) promoted as "easy to win"...it fits in the insane western foreign politics...

Of course;

-The CoViD pandemic soon may get worse-western "living with the virus" is killing tens-of-thousends

-Climate collapse is getting (much) worse

-Inflation out of control

"So unite behind our great western leaders defending democrazy"-totalitarism for the west is next...

The "New Atlas" is in Thailand, The Saker in Iceland, Alex Christoforou in Cyprus...but internet censorship soon should be on its way "to defend western democrazy"...

Enough for now...hope to be completely wrong ! Biden and Putin drinking tea-talking on getting older etc...It is sad to see we are on a high speed route to major global escalation...

PS https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/video-trainload-of-u-s-heavy-armor-moving-east-ukraine or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/world/video-trainload-of-u-s-heavy-armor-moving-east-ukraine ; The brief video below shows a VERY long train of US military armor heading east in Kansas, possibly for Europe (Ukraine).  Self-propelled artillery, M1 Abrams Tanks, and scores of Bradley Fighting vehicles, are clearly visible.

While the destination is unknown, Europe/Ukraine seems likely.

Washington, DC is clearly moving to a war footing, while the American people are being kept blissfully unaware.

and https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/seven-7-b-52-s-recorded-flying-over-long-island-out-to-the-atlantic-ocean-toward-europe or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/seven-7-b-52-s-recorded-flying-over-long-island-out-to-the-atlantic-ocean-toward-europeA young guy on Long Island who video records aircraft and does Astronomy hobby work, went out of his house of Long Island today to video a 747 taking off.  As he turned his camera west, he caught SEVEN (7) US Air Force B-52's flying eastward out into the Atlantic toward Europe . . . .  Video Below:

We know that at least four (4) B-52's will be participating with an Israeli military drill wherein they "simulate" bombing Iran nuclear facilities, so if any of these planes are heading there, then where are the others going?  Ukraine?

DJ, Major preparations for further western escalation are on their way-censorship will increase...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
