Hey
I dont have the time for long posts just want to give you some info from Germany: They intensified controls at airports and typical bus routes and they are kind of shocked what they find. Its not allowed to bring any bird / bird-meet or fethers or alike into the EU. And what did they find? 200 kg of meet during a few hours of contol in only 10 buses from Turkey Rumänia and alike. IIIIEEEEEK We agreed human folly will ensure spread (see thread). This is beyond my imagination and that was not a positive outlook. I finish another round of preparation today. Although I count on month to go, its better to be early with this turmoil (news avtivity about turkey cases) things might become more expensive the longer it goes. Good luck |

hi Concerned,
I live in The netherlands myself, so our countries are neighbours. Do you see any panick-shopping in Germany? I started work again yesterday after a holiday-break and I was shocked to find that most people are a. not interested, b. absolutely not concerned, c. have not thought about it at all and d. were (and still are!) planning to spent their summer-vacation in Turkey!!! (Turkey is about *the* most popular holiday-destination at the moment). They think that as long as they don't spent the night with a sick chicken in one room, they will be alright..... How stupid can you get??? How are things in Germany? Are people starting to wake up over there? good luck with stocking up! Marjo, The Netherlands |

No panic buying, nothing. No awareness at all in the public, which is fine for me as long as government is moving somewhat (snail like anyway) and they are (with controls).
I will find out the sentiment when I go to the pharmacy next time, they are informed because people somhow go ther AND ask (they do not talk when grocery shopping) Well its not that seroius at the moment but it will be very serious at some point in time. |

Same here in Ireland - no awareness, no worry, no panic buying - and everybody thinks you're a nut if you even mention the issue.

I am in Ireland (North) and there is more than enough awareness. It is all anyone can talk about. People just aren't panicking, though that could be a cultural thing. Here in the North we have had more than enough crisis situations. We are fatalistic by nature and most peoples attitude is "If our number is up, our number is up." We have survived 100's of years of starvation, disease and poverty with this attitude, so we must be doing something right My friend, a travel agent, has told me that over half of her bookings for Turkey, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Greece have been cancelled. So there is some concern. My sister is getting married in Cyprus in May..She is still going, the only consensus she is making is she is holding off full payment until the last minute- 1st week of April just to see how things pan out. As a nurse I know the hospitals are prepared. We are in a unique situation in the North because we always have empty wards in case of a major incident , the only problem I can forsee is the lack of Tamiflu. The Government just don't have enough stock-piled. |
